Well if anybody is looking at tracking their fitness/ macros and was planning on using myfitnesspal, I can now tell you that its £15 a month to use the app fully and still get a boat load of ads.

Ive worked in the industry (in ways) for some time now and I can recommend using MacroFactor for food and weight logging. User interface is much better and set up with a bigger (and more importantly, more accurate) database of nutrition for half the price that myfitnesspal is now charging. Would strongly recommend if you're looking into tracking

Tracking everything you eat is key, so is consistency of training.

RH fitness is what quite a few folks I know have had success with. It’s cheap and lots of free info.

No real science to weight loss, just consistent efforts gets results.

if you eat correctly then 9k steps a day is absolutely fine for weight loss. when my local gym shut in the first lockdown i decided to really track my food accurately and walk an hour plus a day, weight dropped off really well.

Who needs a gym to lose that belly?

Just eat sensibly and do regular moderate levels of exercise such as walking 9k steps a day. The weight will fall off you....

Anybody can do it If they want (serious medical conditions excepted) you just need to keep it up and don't make it boring.... take the weekend off.

I have a pal that did that. He used an app called Couch-to-Triathlon to manage his fitness from none existent to enough to do a triathlon. It worked, he smashed it. Fair play.

Sign up to an event, be it a 5km, a 10km or a sprint triathlon and tell everyone. I did this last year and aside from the financial issue of the entry cost the fact that others know you've signed up spurs you on psychologically. Well, it did for me anyway. My brother in-law laughing at me when I told him of my first triathlon runs through my mind every time I train...

Yer. Got some good trails in a place called butser hill near peatersfield hants. Used them when I was a kid. Was good fun. Also got a lot of lanes near me with in 2 miles. I've got a good maintain bike just need to use it.

You'll love it mate. Get a couple of months under your belt for fitness then hit some local trails. This website is decent for finding trails:

https://www.trailforks.com/region/hampshire/

A word of warning; it's addictive, and can be bloody expensive. Bit like fishing lol.

That's what I'm looking at doing on a maintain bike. As like all the lanes and so on. Unfortunately I got a phone call from the doctor. So I've got to do it now and quickly.

Some good advice given. Also, do you have someone to go to the gym with? When I joined up a few years back I used to enjoy it, going with a mate of mine. But when she stopped going it got a bit boring, and I stopped going myself not long after that. You seem to push each other along which I found helped a lot. I a aged to drop a stone and a half in 4 months, unfortunately now I've stopped that's all come back, and an extra stone too

Good advice. You need to enjoy it to make it bearable.
I tried the gym...... boring, gave up.... tried running.... boring, gave up...... got a mountain bike, bloody loved it. I visit trails and bike parks all over the show whenever I can now, and just head off down the local bridleways for fitness.

My advice is, either do something you enjoy, running, rowing, boxing or cycling. Or if you are going to go to the gym and not enjoy it then you need to set goals and reach them.

The goal can be anything like run 5k in x or loose 20lb in x. If you don't enjoy the workout then you must enjoy the results otherwise you will lose interest fast.

Excellent on trying to gain some level of fitness..

There are no gyms where I live, however after an injury I decided to up my inner core strength ...what I do ,and I works for me is a mixture of Yogic and Calisthenics, these exercises are `portable`you can do them anywhere,i do mine at work, fishing anywhere that's fairly quiet for around ten minutes...

I start off with some simple stretches ,these were shown to me by a deep core muscle specialist, once these simple exercises are learnt they are a massive benefit..

however the Calisthenics ,you already have all you need around you every day stuff like a chair, park bench...bars anything and everything you can think of can be used....I start off with some slow push ups ,same again elevated on a chair ,I use a bar for pull ups ,walls for nose touching push ups on the balls of your feet...my ten litre bait bucket, plus bait inside held close to my chest for squats ….basically you are using your own body mass ,to increase your core strength....plus I walk a lot every day with my dog....over the fields across the cliffs just being active,i eat a lot of fish and so on...Thing is ,it wont cost you a penny ,all is needed is mental self belief...

it has really helped me ,I do these in the morning and before bedtime...like I mentioned I went to a injury specialist first ,and he taught me the basics......

Some good advice already mate

There’s lots of other options to the gym.

Like you said, cycling is very good, swimming too for all over body workouts or look at another sport. Like mentioned whatever you do you have to enjoy it otherwise you won’t perseve with it

My advise with gyms and I have gone for years, pick one that you pass for work then there is not excuse at all, your passing it everyday or it’s 5 minutes away if you get my drift. Also, balance your time, I do 40 minutes sessions either before or after work max. no major impact on your lifestyle then, I swim once a week too, bit of variation

Even walking a dog gets you off you out and about

Either way, you are what you eat

I’m 41 and have been going to gyms for 20 odd years. First thing I’d do is book an induction or a personal training session. Find out what you enjoy and get shown how to train smart. If you like boxing, find a gym with bags, a gym that does spin sessions are great if you liked cycling.
I can’t run due to having a knee replacement but it doesn’t stop me working out and keeping a good level of fitness.

If I can’t fit in a session I really get the hump it’s so good for my mental health! No need to spend much either, I pay about 18 quid a month and my gyms better than many I have been in for more than twice that price,

Find what you like doing, get shown how to do it properly and get stuck in mate!

I'm 40. Need to lose some weight for my diabetes. And just to try and feel better. Use to do a lot of cycling and keeping fit when I was younger up to about 20. Then as normal life changes . but it's time to try and sort my health out again
