My dad was very good, played him loads of times never beat him though, tought me loads of tricks....with that in mind I felt happy to play Tony Knowles at a sports do at Olympia (where I worked at the time) I didn't beat him either, lined up to play John Virgo but ran out of time so that didn't happen, another day I play a champion pool player, well I say plated I didn't even get a shot, lost to him as well, AND before anyone says it.....I'm just a good loser

@everyone...

I do,i remember Cliffs famous televised 147,and Werbenuiks fartyÖ!!!

A `long tom`is a massive milk tanker used for picking up and transporting milk from farms to the main sites,in this case it was double the size, very common sight on Devon and Cornish roads....if the weather is wet ,and it passes you ,your car will not look good after...anyway i was locked in one of those, with the lid shut down for a `joke`...Ol Jonsey was lucky to keep his job....................

Ö.

Anyway,id got myself a flat,in the famous metropolis that is Tintagel....oppo my flat is the famous King Arthurs pub ,the place to be [lol]....back in the eighties.....I also played lots of pool, the pool tables wre sponsored by LMS tables, one of the sponsored players for LMS,was Steve Sanders, one time Euro masters pool finalist and current no 2.UK at that time.

He came down from wherever ,to play the locals....i dont know what he had in his mind about us all back then ,lets just says we`re a bit more clued up than he realised about pool, mainly because in the winters there was fcuk all to do ,other than survive til the summer came....

and so ,remember i said i got ok at snooker....well i put my name down in a hat and drew him.....long story short,i won i beat him twice....i held my hand out to shake his and he refused.....`my mate said`it mightve been because i said `An,gof is still in spirit....LOl....He also got beaten by Tony Pollard i believe from Bude....and no one beats Tony WTF..
Sky commentator now...

Remember it well Davis missing the cutback on the black and leaving it on for Taylor.
Also what about the commentary of whispering Ted Lowe with his best one liner "For those of you
watching in black and white the pink is next to the green" absolute classic.

I would religiously watch jimmy white. Stopped watching when he retired.
Was in the swan in Stockwell and jimmy invited a few of us back to heís snooker club.
That was a long night and day.

The Rack Pack is definitely worth a watch.

The official blurb......

The Rack Pack is a comedy drama exploring the glory days of the Seventies and Eighties snooker scene, when huge characters became household names and Snooker Loopy troubled the pop charts.

The story tells of the rivalry between Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins, whose natural talent and showmanship transformed the image of the traditional game and captivated audiences across the country, and the interesting Steve 'The Nugget' Davis who under the guidance of manager Barry Hearn dominated the sport throughout the Eighties and ushered in a new era of professionalism.

Other characters include Alex's wife, Lynn Higgins, and the greatest player never to be World Champion, Jimmy White.

This rip roaring romp through the snooker scene of Eighties Britain is a celebration of the huge personalities of the time and an affectionate look at a gloriously nostalgic period of this very British sport.

In 1985, the climax of the world snooker final broadcast between Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor on the BBC in the early hours of a Monday morning was watched by 18.5 million people in the UK, which remains a record for a post-midnight audience for any channel in the country.

2015 is the 30th anniversary of that final and The Rack Pack celebrates this by bringing the party to BBC iPlayer

I canít remember the fart but I remember his trousers ripping.

That guy used to have 20-25 pints even before entering the arena then a further dozen or so pints during a session of snooker.

Come to think of it I donít recall a pool player playing snooker to a high standard whereas the likes of Davis, White, Higgins etc have represented Europe in Mosconi cups. Must be so so different playing pool then taking on a table twice the size with much smaller pockets too.

Nope never eaten that cheese but whatís a long Tom tanker?.

And an appropriate name of car too...,,.

Well then mate,your a true sportsman... ...

I had a bit of banter with my son,i said,a good snooker player will always be a better pool player than the other way around, course he didnt like that.....

i lived next to a village working mens club, until the 80s women had never set foot in the place or allowed to...
,anyway they had two beautiful snooker tables, every night me and three other lads would play til three/four in the morning....we got quite good, winner stays on etc....good times,i still use my BCE Hurricane Higgins two piece....I`ll never forget the prank I played on this guy,.....

have you eaten Cathedral city cheese..?....well years ago it was called MMB cheddar, this lad, locked me in a long Tom tanker for a laugh,i didn't appreciated it and vowed revenge...

the snooker club was on a hill, nest to an ancient castle ruin....one night ,when two of em was playing,i burst in the club, shouting,JONESY,your handbrakes failed......your Marina is in the HARBOUR,fcuk,me you should`ve seen this guy move....so funny.....he never forgave me..
