I ended up getting a Huawei p smart 2019. Seems a good phone. Very similar to the Samsung phones.

Go online and check a coverage checker for network cover but even then be careful. We're covered by EE according to them but can only get a signal in the garden, not in the house. Tesco has been good for me as has Vodaphone.

I was on Tesco mobile (O2 ) for 11 years then when I started fishing the Trent I was struggling for a signal on the bank but my mate was next to me with max signal he is on EE but cheaper way to get EE is to go on Virgin

I've found o2 to be great. I work all over the country, and never struggled for signal

It looks worse in the flesh but was still pinging ect when receiving texts and mail but with a blank screen couldn't reply and couldn't turn off the alarm clock next morning so had to let the battery run flat. Lucky it was several months out of contract.

Also what network would you go for ? I'm with 3. Have been for about 11 years now. Signal been not to bad. Patchy in some places at times. Wondering what other networks have a better signal

I never fancied an I phone as heard a lot of bad reports on them. Even a guy in phone shop said don't bother with them

I loved my Sony z3. Bought outright from Sony store and used giffgaff sim.
Lasted 5 years and I dropped it. Gutted.
iPhone 7 got me out of trouble as a spare and I hate it. Every update causes issues.
When this iPhone is dead Iím going back to Sony phones.

Another thumbs up for the huawei p20 pro camera is amazing and battery lasts for two days 😉
