Whenever I have used the boat coming back I regret it when I pass the junction for the tunnel, given the extra hour on board and the time taken to get off and through Dover I would have been halfway home on the train.

The boat is ok when you are going, but train for me given the choice.

And that's the temptation the extra hour in bed.

Although at the moment with either option you have to allow extra time due to all the road works on the M20.

We have had to use the M2 a few times recently due to it being closed at night.

Looking at prices this year, there is hardly any difference between train and boat. I normally use the boat, but am thinking twice this year.
That hour saved is an extra hour in bed.

After an hour delay I got 30 quid back , I complained and got something back . Have got more back the longer the delay.

At least there are toilets before check in now.

But they are pushing the flexi plus very heavily .

I cross the channel regularly in a car and until about two years ago always used the tunnel , however these days they do dot seam to run a reliable service espicaly at weekends or busy periods.

We use the ferry now as luckily we do not get sea sick.

Its cheeper and in the long run more efficent.

For tunnel users if you are delayed by more than an hour complain and you get a small amount back , if its very bad say the quee is onto the motorway call and ask to use the ferry ( call and check there is space first ) I have had the ferry paid and a full refund on days like this.

Like the gent below they have number plate recognition and I have seen people turned away who try the two singles trick it used to work but not any more.

Good luck.

Possibly the worst advice on here other than post 2.

They use number plate recognition at checkin. If you have not completed a full round trip as on the day return............you are in breach of the contract. They simply don't let you on without paying the full value of a weeks return. It is all in their smallprint that they will do this.

Try booking a return journey with the return time within 24hrs. Costs £30. Book your return journey whilst in France in the same way. Works for me 👍

Been over to France/Belgium loads of times, (fishing/baccy runs etc.) and don't think I've ever been charged for catching an earlier/later train than booked.

We've arrived early and if there are spaces have always got an earlier train.

Coming back we were running late on one occasion. We phoned ahead and were re-booked without any fee at all. This was despite Eurotunnel being very busy. It seems like they just need to know so that they can plan.

On the other hand we've occasionally been delayed for anything up to 2 hours. There's only been a vague reason given and we've never had any compensation.
