New lake Iím joining in April has 16 swims and 30 members. The lake Iím leaving had 8 swims and 27 members.
I only fished mid week and had plenty of times when it was only me on the lake

The secret is to manage the membership so that you balance mid week and weekend anglers.
Imo a ratio of 3 to a peg is about right for a syndicate.

I think thatís how Iím going to play it. Go and have a look in April/May once itís looking a bit prettier, then stick myself on the waiting list if everything adds up. I have a day ticket lake I want to give a good go this year so I can wait. Plus a lovely estate club lake that could throw up a big old fish.

I wouldn't worry about being a weekend warrior. On my syndicate there's a lot of people who fish mid-week and weekend can be relatively quiet, you won't really know until you take the plunge.

1. 25 acres, 34 members.

2. 29 acres, 40 members.

3. 40 acres, 55 members.

Roughly 20 swims on all of them. Only the latter gets busy.

It so depends on the syndicate.

I have fished a 4 acre syndicate that was leased by the guy running it for next to nothing. 5 swims, 12 anglers, fish to 40.

My current syndicate is 26 acres, 30 members, 15 swims but itís £1200 a year but itís a business and the stock is unreal.

You will find some that seem great and some maybe not so good value.

Work on the principle that only 20% of the membership will fish at any one time so if that number is a good bit higher than swims then it may well be a problem .

Trouble is although itís not massive money (300 at the moment) by the time Iíve traveled out there, found it busy, and traveled back to my local club thatís the best part of two hours and 15/20 quid in diesel. My fishing for the last couple of years has cost me next to nothing so would make a nice change to have somewhere I can do a few nights.

The bloke I messaged about the lake said heís only seen it busy once and he must see it all the time. I will see about a wonder round in a couple of months once the spring has sprung. No lake looks good at this time of year.

Trouble is it can change from year to year how busy it is and when due to peoples circumstances changing.

Also some places do midweek tickets , weekend tickets and full tickets so its always going to be a risk.
Good luck

When I bought my place I asked a guy that runs a few waters in Essex this very question and his answer was "number of swims X three and a half.
I was quite shocked to be honest, but have since realised that I could easily get away with that ratio as my place is barely fished.
