I canít comment on the small coarse lake. Never fished it. From memory the guys in the onsite tackle shop were very friendly and helpful. Iím sure if you called them theyíd give you an honest answer.

I had a Verulam ticket a few short years back and Lancaster Lake near Bishops Stortford was very much a runs water, I did a weekend with a mate and I had over 20 fish including 3 good twenty's, but when you hear a place described as a hole in the ground filled with water then Lancaster is just that.
Good for a fish or two but just an irrigation pond for the farm and when the wind blows you will feel it as the land surrounding is very much open and the farm is actually high up compared to the surroundings.
Plus as it is an irrigation pond water levels can get quite low.

Still worth a bend in the rod.

Willows is a good bet for a run. Iíve had several fish in a day on pretty cold days in jan. in better conditions it must fish itís nuts off. What about stanbourgh lakes. That used to be good for a first twenty years back. Donít know much about it now.

Iíve fished rib valley a few times. I wouldnít take beginners there. It can be very moody.

Maize, lots and lots of maize. Not too far out either. They all seem to want to cast to the horizon down there, so a good bed of maize a few rod lengths out, simple rigs, and you will have them crawling up the line. On the big lake that is, the farm lake you need to put a little more effort in (not much though).
