Oddly my son got me into carp fishing, my first ever carp was 17lb. I always taken him fishing with me up the rivers and to local ponds, out for generally roach or a good tench, not forgetting perch under a brolly with a tilly lamp . As he got older he moved onto carp fishing, was always on the bank, finally he persuaded me to join him on a carp lake about 20 years ago, I turned up with my float gear, said this will be boring, I'll just sit here watching my float lol. Night came, he handed me a rod, said cast it over there and set it on the buzzer. I curled up on the bivvy floor, he didn't even offer me his bed!!!! Middle of the night he jumps up shouting "dad that's your rod" so out I crawl, after a good battle, on the bank was this HUGE 17lb carp, well the rest is history, kids ay lol. And I still occasionally fish that complex

My first ever double was ...................13lb 2oz as well!

Mind you I caught mine nearly 40 years ago. Just got the photo out and it made me smile. I was a fresh faced 14 year old and the photo shows me holding the fish up against the jumper my nan had knitted for me, a blue jumper with a white fish on it, she wasn't too impressed when she saw the photo as she had 'knitted it for best, not for you to wear fishing!'

I was about 15 before I had my first double. Then I had a 10lb 3oz common one balmy summers evening on my local park lake. I remember myself and my friend were so pleased as we had been trying for a few years to break the magic double figure barrier. Then a few minutes later he banked a 12lb mirror and we were truly ecstatic.

This was 30 years ago and I still remember it fondly, it was another 10 years before I had a 20 and my friend was with me again. Then last year the same friend had a 100lb cat in France and we were like children again. Great friendship and great memories.

Hi All

One of the guys that works for me got back from the Xmas break today, he's 18 and managed his first double 13lb 2oz. He was like a Cheshire cat showing everyone the photos (even the accounts team who weren't too impressed).
No facebook, social media, kettles etc involved, just a young guy living his own dream.
Really took me back to what it's all really about and why I do it.....
Best

Jon
