Flavours? Simply, don't. Hemp flavoured hemp is the best hemp you will get. If you want to add something then prep it first, then once done a good dose of salt, or sugar, will do the job. Don't add them before cooking as the hemp won't split

add it to the hot water before you put in to your cool box. that way it will draw itself into the particle

Get an old cool box, put your hemp in dry, cover with boiling water (make sure the water is a good few inches above the hemp,) put the lid on and leave for 24hours. Do not open the lid before then. The insulation of the box keeps it hot for long enough to cook the hemp perfectly. Doing this you can add things like pigeon conditioner and maples to prep your spod mix all in one go. It may work OK with maize although I've never tried it, but id avoid doing tigers that way

I prepare together . 75% hemp 25 % maples.
Soak for 24 hours or so in a sealed bucket then boil for 30 mins 👍
Then tip the lot back in to sealed bucket overnite so the maples start to go gooey.

Hi Ian

Yep, soft as possible so they still retain shape. They also still go gooey after about 24 hours and can take on flavours
(Then again I've been known to use baked beans as well)

Best

I soak and boil mine separately, maize takes ages, stopped using it and now throw a tin of corn in for colour, like you said 15 ish mins for maples. I take a couple of dozen out after 5 mins for hookbait, 2 topped with floating plastic maize. Wheat doesn't need boiling, tares only need 5 mins and chick peas similar to maples.
Cheap way to do it also if you buy by the sack, and you can make it dark if you have a duck problem. Dye chicks green etc.

Cheers Chaps. Didn’t realise you could do the coolbox method for maples I thought they’d need to be cooked longer. The only reasoning behind wanting to do them together is tht from memory maples soak up a lot of water and the theory being they’d soak in the hemp oil so almost be hempy maples. I would be fishing 2x10mm boilies over them so not too worried if the maples are a bit soft could always keep a handful seperate for hookbaits if needed.

You boil maples for 30 mins John? Don't they turn too soft? I always do mine for no more than a 15 min boil if doing the soak and boil method, where as hemp until it splits so however long that takes. I've found the coolbox method seems to split the hemp nicely, but the maples cook through but retain enough firmness I can use them as hook baits if I want to. Although I don't really do that anymore as I like to add thaumatin b to the maples to get them oozing that nice sticky goo they produce after a couple of days

Hi Ben

I use both and soak boil separately for the exact same times. No idea why I've never thought to do them together apart from the fact I use a lot of different flavourings. Can't think of a reason why you couldn't.
Especially the cool box method as mentioned

Best

I'd do them separately if soaking and boiling, as by the time the hemp splits the maples will be like mush. You can get away with doing them together using the coolbox method though

Fancy trying hemp and maples next year along side 10mm live system or odyssey xxx (not sure which yet)
Can I just prepare both the hemp and maples together save having to soak 2 buckets then boil them both up separately. Instead just leave both soaking in a bucket for 24 hours and then boil together for 30 mins. That okay or do I need to do them separately.
