Havenít got far into the book, not sure Iím a fan of the black paper, reading it is fine but I keep leaving little finger prints all over the edges of the pages. Petty maybe, but I like to keep all my books as perfect as I can, even to the point of taking the dust jacket off while Iím reading them.

I haven't looked into the things he has been saying as I ain't one for following anglers on social media, but when I met the bloke (must be around 7 years ago now), he seemed pretty down to earth. Due to jacking in the facebook nonsense and going back to forums (for nostalgia than anything), I'm looking into reading angling books instead of getting my eyes glued to a screen. The book is def on my "to read" list.

Up there with the best fishing books i have ever read, cannot put it down, literally on the last chapter.

I've laughed, cried, been gobsmacked, stared in awe, and related many times whilst reading it.

white text on black is not a problem, its quite nice in fact.

Only grumble was that when ordering two books (1 for me, 1 for my bro for xmas) my missus was charged two lots of postage!

Just finished the book and can only re-endorse everything Keith has posted above. Itís a great read and gives a really good insight into the effort and commitment these guys put into fishing.

No bull**** and very well written, he really takes you on a journey and the white writing on black pages makes no difference after a few pages.

Would definitely recommend this book.

Probably due to having proof read quite a few books over the past decade, I rarely, if ever, read carp books any more - I think the last one I read fully was Mickey's 'Merry Olde Dance'. But this is one I've been waiting for years for and, to be honest, I was not disappointed.

Got it for Christmas and had finished it before New Year's Eve, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We all know how well Adam writes, and this comes over in huge amounts. His use of the English language is effortless and makes such a change from lazy text speak and phonetic spelling. He weaves a tale with humour and precision and it matters not a jot that you meander through the years without any particular chronology. The non-fishing stories are, for me, some of the best in the book and will have you howling with laughter, shaking your head in disbelief and, in one chapter, fighting back the tears - it takes a really good writer to bring out all of those emotions, and Adam is just that - a really good writer.

The design is really good, and for those of you who are concerned about white text on black pages, worry not. Within a couple of pages you won't even notice because you'll be so engrossed in the book. The inserts from the diaries work really well and in some cases are used as just another paragraph in the story, which works perfectly.

All in all, I can't praise this book enough. Yes, it's a big book, and at £35 is probably at the top end of pricing for a carp book, but there have been a few other 'big' carp books out in the past few years that would have been overvalued at half that price, so believe me, you really do get value for money here.

Trust me because I know, the carp book market is on its knees at the moment, and may not get up again, but this book is head and shoulders above anything else you'll read in the near future - go and get it!

Just finished reading the book. Thanks to all the soaps, celebrities in jungles and strictly for keeping the missus occupied whilst I got engrossed! First opinions were indeed justified and it is a tremendous book. Whether Adam manages to remain free or spend some time at her majesties pleasure may be in question with some of the revelations in the book! It made me laugh, it made me sad and after one chapter I felt as though I'd swallowed a whole orange such was the lump in my throat. Moreover, it keep me entertained and looking forward to coming home after a hard day at work to lose myself in an angling adventure.

Some books are nothing more than a blatant plug for products that the author gets paid to push. Although certain items are tackle are mentioned (how could it be a fishing book otherwise?) but at no point did I feel that I was being sub conciously being brain washed into selecting a certain item of tackle.

Unfortunately Krushergate didn't make it in, that is one chapter I would have liked to have read but plenty of other embarassing moments that we all make are laid bare.

Although I've finished reading it, I'll read it again straight after and I don't do that with every book.

nope

the diary parts are black text on cream.

the rest of the book is white text on black background. the text isn't too small and I have had no problem reading the foreword.

It's a huge book - looks amazing tbh - loads of stunning pictures and drawing (Craig Stannard) and given the quality of his writings, I think this will be a classic.

It's a doorstop (536 pages 10 inches by eight) and so I'm only about a quarter of the way through. So far I'm really enjoying it and can thoroughly recommend it. It's an honest tome and he readily admits to some of faults in earlier years but I prefer that to someone who tells you their f*rts don't smell! It's unique in that there are extracts from his diary that interlace the stories that record 'the moment'. It's printed on black paper with white text which gives it a different feel.

So far, the stories have me gripped. It's not a collection of pictures of rigs that some books appear to be. Although he does mention what rigs he had used to catch certain fish, it's only for completeness. There are plenty of quality photo's as you would expect that don't over intrude.

Some parts of the book are part autobiographical and don't particularly relate to fishing but I still enjoyed reading it. It helps to give the full picture and see where he came from and to a degree, where he's going.

It also differs slightly in that the stories aren't sequential but that doesn't really matter. You could just read every chapter as a stand alone piece. I suppose the term 'fireside reading' sums up when I've read so far.

Not cheap at the best part of £40 (with postage) but it is written by a master story teller and may turn into a classic.
