There he is, the cheeky old chap. Holding the deformed old pike that lives in that area. Next time you go in the shop, remind him you saw a pike he had caught, that you were told looked a bit like him

Yeah of course he does I’m getting old lol!
I spoke to him for the first time in years about 18 months ago, I was down that way for a funeral, and called in the shop on the way back.
Amazing shop, they still had the old one last time I saw him.
Don’t hear about the real big pike much now.

He owns the Tackle Box in Dartford with his brother. Loves his pike fishing, goes to Chew a lot. I love winding him up, and telling him they are not 'proper' .

Thanks mate. I'm going carp fishing at 12pm really, either tonight or tomorrow. I get people who find out where I'm fishing these days though, and it gets busier as they want to catch them to. So, don't tell them. I'm a pike fisherman now, between me and you. Even when they think I caught them recently, it was a month before in reality. Gotta play the game. I don't have long now.

Thank you mate. My name is Mark, it's a long story .

Never personally, I love sardines. I pre bait with them, so I like to use them on the hook. My friend who caught the 32lb8oz is a real pike guru. He caught that on a mackerel. I like mackerel too, but prefer sardines for connivence. I prefer bigger baits, I want to catch lumps. That's what I always think anyway mate. My friend Gary Peet brought smelt, he had a 15lber, and I had a 26lb10oz that day on sardines. Who knows, but when it's not broke, there's no need to fix it is always my thoughts.

Lovely fish there PJ, do you ever use smelt? I remember they were a good pike bait at one time.

Yes, I love them, can't wait till Christmas! The best move you will ever make is changing from lures to dead baits. These were all caught, with many others from the river Thames, on dead baits. The one on the mat is 32lb8oz, caught by my friend. That monster, would chew five Chew 40lbers for breakfast, bitch slap them, the poor young things. Try pre baiting for them first a few days before. It works really well.

Bait wise, best advice I can give is go to Waitrose. Every shop that has a wet fish counter sells them, just not on the counter, you need to ask. They keep them in freezers out the back. 1kg bags of frozen sardines. Blast frozen, you get around a dozen in a bag for approximately £4.50. These are always excellent quality, never anything else.

Sardines are a lovely bait, oily and wash out in freezing cold water.

WHITE BOAT ALERT Bivvywrecker lol.

Personally I only use Delks when Pike fishing as no line movement is req to get a indication. When I used Fox alarms years ago I always fished with a float 'laying on' and on a run rig, so any nibble got magnified by the float and was pretty noticeable. I think in all the years I've probably struck more Pike without any indication from a alarm than I have with a bleep, by a big margin (because I had non vibe alarms for longer than I had those with it). The Solar bite floats still sometimes come up on EBay, another handy cross over from Carp fishing when not using a Pike float.
