I've been reading this thread and I feel as usual with this sort of thing it's gone way off topic.

As such I am moving it to the feedback section

You can **** right off pal. Try seeing a blown up bus back on the 7/7 with a small local companies van who your Younger brother works for in pieces next to it. Try going to work on site on Monday morning on London Bridge straight after the knife attacks last year and seeing the fear on people's faces, the clean up crew still working scrubbing up blood, try being on the tube when the luckily failed tube bomb of late last summer happened. Then come back and call me crass.
Thse women chose to wear them, they aren't forced. Not very oppressive is it

And your point is??? So a bomb attack in Bolton wouldn't be noticed. Hardly.... the right wing loonies would be all over it quicker than it takes one of them to detonate their bomb. Or are you saying that cos it's oop north, we don't count?

Remember the Manchester Arena bomb last year. Myself and my daughter have been to quite a few concerts there..... could have been us.....

Crass comment.

I don't like them cos they are about the oppression of women!

Yes but that's because cause if they did ever blow up Bolton nobody would even notice... If you had ever experienced the aftermath of a terrorist attack first hand you would understand people's concerns.
So why don't you like the things then?

I agree that gerry shouldn't have ranted like he did, no arguments there at all. But his reposted link(and that is all it was) has no reason to have been removed imo, especially with no reasonable explanation as to why (a complaint doesn't really cut it) as its a genuine concern for a lot of people. It's a sad state of affairs, but go and get on the London underground and watch the worried looks come over people's faces when someone fully clad and covered gets on. If a ban was to help alleviate people's fears just a little then it's got to be a good thing.
The brexit thread nobody is winning the "debate" on there, as like I've said many times it hasn't happened so nobody knows who is right, and nobody from either side has backed down even an inch, so it's turned into a pointless conversation so should just be stuck in the history locker and maybe brought back out in a couple of years when the dust has settled and people actually have knowledge of what's going on as opposed to just guessing. Anyway I digress, that's not for this thread..

That's rather disingenuous.....

Gerry started a thread about Burka's which was locked following a complaint. IMO, he then tried to get his views through the back door by starting the petition thread, which in reality was about Burka's. Now whether or not we agree, it's dodgy ground and could be construed as racism. Note the word could.

I don't think he helped himself by hijacking another thread and his rant against mods. I 've been on this forum for about 10 years and had my own run ins with mods from time to time and I've always found Brian to be OK and very reasonable.

While I don't care for some of Gerry's views, he is a prolific, helpful and valued member of the forum, and It would be sad to lose him. Wayne's post is really helpful and I think, shows why Gerry's thread got pulled. And I never agree with Wayne....

Re the brexit thread , I hope you noted that Gerry asked for that to be locked..... double standards or what? Although that's got a bit het up here and there, for the most part it's been civil and without any obvious references to racism, focusing on the economic harm (or otherwise) it will cause.

If anything, I think any calls to shut that down are because the leavers are losing the argument.....

If peeps want to rant about the wearing of the burka (and you can disseminate about motorcycle helmets all you like) you can find like minded peeps like yourself on the relevant Facebook page. I will not link to it on here but a simple Google search will soon bring a result. You will be right at home on there!

Just to reinforce what Wayne posted, this is from the Forum rules as fomulated by Karlos himself. Moat to him if you don't like it or find the burka Facebook page, where your view will be welcome with open arms by your fellow EDL members.

FROM THE RULES:...no racist, religious and insulting comments. Posts which break this rule will be edited, suppressed or deleted.

I thought it was just called “Equality” as in equal rights – if a Motorcyclist has to remove his/her Crash helmet when entering a Bank, Petrol station in order for CCTV to record his/her face for public/staff safety – so should everybody else regardless of what the hell they wear to cover their faces, it’s not rocket science.

Just plain basic common sense, utterly jack S### to do with religion IMHO

No it was not ban the burkha it was a general ban about people walking around covering their faces, so would include full face motorcycle helmets when you're actually riding. It would also include people acting suspiciously, example gangs hiding in alleys.
This law applies in some countries already

I never even saw the post, but if it was a petition for 'ban the Burkha' I'm glad it was removed.

I don't care who you are, how many posts you've made, or how much you claim to have brought to the forum, its not place for that xenophobic bullsh*t.

I suppose technically it could be, but it was for face coverings in general, and also the "religious" coverings aren't actually mandatory for those people so I'd have said it's more of a personal thing as opposed to a religious one. Either way I think far more controversial things have gone further with no repercussions at all so it's a bit odd as to why it was removed. A decent explanation would be good for everyone, rather than just saying there had been a complaint (which can't have had much substance to it anyway as nothing was actually written)

Nice linky poos, Wayne...

An example of an old geezer is a grumpy old man who sits on his porch all day yelling at neighborhood kids.

I remember a post a couple or three years ago by Karlos the owner of this site along the lines of 'political and religious posts will be removed as they have no place on a fishing forum'. Nuff said.

Good points
On the other hand if people feel stifled and afraid of being PC incorrect they may leave. Not many traditional fishing forums left that's as active as this one and I don't want to lose this one.

Still think locking a thread and giving a reason is the way forward so people are aware of their mistakes, are reminded of the rules and educated. I don't think advertisers would have a problem with that?

It’s called options – if you don’t want to view things none Carp related, simple don’t click onto the “None Carp Stuff”
Nobody forces anybody to view the content in that section – so how anyone can whinge or moan IF they go and view it is beyond me.

IF what’s posted goes beyond the point deemed – except able, then it gets deleted, that simple.

BUT on the flip side- start letting “Political Correctness” creep in, and it will kill this forum off!

Freedom of speech is disappearing all over the Western World.
Give it a few years and we will be like Communist China and here on the fishing forum just talking about washing bowls for fishing or what are the warmest socks.

Sad times to look forward to.

Rules
No swearing or racist comments
Avoid sexual innuendo or explicit vocabulary, racist, religious and insulting comments. Posts which break this rule will be edited, suppressed or deleted.

The forum has rules though on what you can and can't discuss.....if it's political then it's always going to be controversial and has the potential to be locked!

Just so people are aware it's not difficult to do LINKY POOS........

People forget that the forum is funded by advertising. Those advertisers are primarily fishing related companies I'd assume. They probably don't want to be associated with topics that could be construed in ways that aren't favourable. If they walk then so does their money.

Regardless, there's no such thing as free speech on a forum owned by and paid for by another individual. If you want free speech make your own forum or website.

I can think of one forum that has a zero tolerance ban on religion & politics, just because they're the two subjects that people can't seem to discuss without getting their knickers in a twist.

Both of which are more relevant on a carp forum than banning the bloody Burka imo.

Totally agree, the worlds made up of all different people and different views.

Someone will always disagree and see something in a different light, I agree with the petition and can’t see why it was locked.

That petition is right imo who do I complain to about it having been removed?

Freedom of speech means freedom for those who you despise, and freedom to express the most despicable views. It also means that the government cannot pick and choose which expressions to authorise and which to prevent.”

Trevor the one that was locked was the first thread, there was a second thread but that was removed.
Depending on your point of view one could argue that the first thread contained certain undertones. I stand to be corrected but as far I'm aware the second thread only had one reply and then it was removed.

The post wasn't removed it was locked. Personally if you want to put up a post such as that one and a few others that have been allowed to run then there are plenty of right wing forums to do it on. As Brian has stated complains were made not by myself but by others so it was deemed that it should be locked.

Playing devil's advocate here a little, but gerrys removed post didn't actually contain anything untoward or offensive, just a link to a popular petition site which anyone can access, so could you explain to us what the harm is in that Brian? The idea of a petition is if you agree, you sign, if you don't, you don't. If someone on here didn't like that petition then they don't sign it surely?

Going forward would it not be an idea that who ever posted the thread gets a pm from the mod to explain why the thread was locked or removed.I was banned once and did not know why so i contacted Karlos and got reinstated as the mod had not put a reason for banning me.Gerry is a brilliant member and has helped alot of people on here with his advice and linky poos.Yes he speaks his mind and sometimes comes acoss a bit abrupt but i prefer people like that in everyday life at least you know where you stand.

Shame to come back on after a long break to see things have got worse, not better. Same happening on most carp related forums and facebook pages. Carp anglers + Power = lots of angry people.

Good idea and if the reason given is clear then it's unlikely there should be any further questions.
A bit more work for the mods but if a job's worth doing................

Can't understand why the second thread was removed.
We don't want to lose you Gerry, perhaps a mod can contact you and explain why, you may not like the reason but at least it will show you some respect and then you can hang around a bit longer

Anyone using the name foxycarper should have to provide a photo to ensure compliance with the name although in this instance I'm prepared to let HIM off.

3no questions to which all three posts have been locked.
Philip
The only 2 locked are in general carp and posted 7 mins apart
the tackle threads are running

27 Aug 2018
at 5.15pm ...from Thread:
Pallatrax hooks

at 5.08pm ...from Thread:
Pallatax

Maybe a bit better comms would have helped.

If Mark has any questions on use of forum get him to pm me as in the past newish members have trouble getting their head around ordering of posts and cannot see their first posting etc so post again as they think it is not there

Hope this helps
M

EDIT

Tell him I find the pallatrax gripz hooks great. Only used them for float fishing the margins amongst the snags and they’ve not once let me down. Had to bully carp up to 17lb and all held tight.

Wow, how dissapointing! If that is the reason wouldn't it of been better for the person that locked the thread to explain why and move it to the correct section. How petty that a mod would actually do this to a new member who made a genuine mistake..........

Hi, my mate has started using the forum after I suggested how informative it is! he has recently asked 3no questions to which all three posts have been locked. He spoke with me earlier to say how surprised he was to not of had a responce I tried to answer when doing so I realised the posts that been locked. Could someone explain why. He has posted under the name Foxycarper
