Don't forget worms. There aren't many species that won't eat a worm.

Not much better than a big old chunk of bread flake waving around in the flow though mate. Make some cheese paste up for the chub, a tin of luncheon meat. No need to use expensive baits on the river especially.

Nothing attracts perch more than the small fish, find those/attract those and the perch will not be far behind.

Buy a sack of breadcrumb for £15 for 25kg and 5litres of molasses for £8, thatíll last you ages on a river just running a float through or plugging a feeder, itíll attract just about anything other than predatory fish. Cheap and has worked and always will work on the rivers. A pinch of bread flake or a grain of corn on the hook, especially in the river youíre fishing.

Where i live there isnt a tackle shop, there is a small river local and im gonna spend a bit more time on there as its not something ive ever done before.

Im thinking can i buy say 5 pints of maggots and freeze them in half pints to grab and go?

Been using sweetcorn as a easy grab and go bait but want to appeal to more species
