Im not from kent but did fish down there around 2008, i was very friendly with quite a few knowledgeable locals and i thought at the time i fished it there was only a 40 mirror in there, with some lovely 30's, i certainly dont think i have heard of the common

I expect it’s the Mill Stream common. Wasn’t aware of that fish when I fished there in ‘05/‘06, but may well of gone in after? I remember seeing pics of it at high 40’s a year or two back. Pukka looking fish!!

Is that right a 50lb common from larky 2? it wouldn't have surprised me if the road and island or the ocean has produced a 50

There is quite a few in there but it is very hard its very weedy bird life is a nightmare its full of big tench I mainly fished the road side and when I was on there they would always show close to the houses where you cannot fish. I also had my rods wiped out more than once by dogs jumping in the lake and running through my lines. I only had one out the year I was on there but had loads of big Tench. I heard rumors a 50lb was in there but I never saw it but I did see some lovely fish biggest I saw was a nice common around the 30lb that swam straight through my swim about 10 yards from the bank. I found them a few times tucked up in the snags by the roundabout and milling about by the island I found they would show mostly in evenings. It is a definitely a challenge and not too pressured but I think you may be allowed to use boats on there now which would make a lot easier.

You mean the common Jims holding on the front of his book "big water Carp " Defiantly from one of the Larkfield Lakes 1, 2 or 3.

first time I have ever heard that about the Gibbinson fish. I didn't even know he fished abroad.

I was fishing Alders a few years after the book came out and everyone was convinced it came from the Ocean - this was a long time before the houses were built.

It was actually Bazils Bush which featured the railway lake. As you say, a few bits in early Big Carp mags, also quite a bit in Dempsey’s book.

I thought that Jim Gibbinson latterly stated that the Common was a foreign capture...although I would be pleased to be wrong.

I think Fox Pool has some some chapters on it (The fish were featured in the early issues of Big Carp - Always remember the Steve Allcott picture of him with Spotty - "that night we had lime in our perriers..."

There were always strong rumours that the big common on the front of one of Jim Gibbinson's books came from the Ocean.

Also Chris Haswell's book has some on those lakes too.
