I'm not sure it needed many more fish tbh. The 5 of us on during our week had well over 100 takes between us, landing between 80 and 90 fish. That doesn't seem like a water inadequately stocked - we saw it as a runs water and that's hw it fished.

Since my previous post in July and after being told that the venue was adequately stocked, I see that the Estate Lake has recently been stocked with a further 167 of the 200 carp purchased for the job. Rather a strange thing to do if stocks were already adequate don't you think?

No problem wth rats whatsoever, even though we used loads of particle and also cooked on the bank. Saw one rat on a couple of evenings but it was at the waterís edge and came nowhere near the bivvy despite us having the front wide open all week

Iím currently fishing the lake and itís fishing well across all swims, despite the weather. I think itís only fair to let people know our views as they differ considerably from others on here. So, there are s couple of Belgian lads in 1 and 2 who are here with their wives in the gites. They are pretty much only fishing nights. They had baitboat issues to begin with but since then have consistently had a couple of takes each every night up to early 40ís. They are Fishing long range (about 150m) but nowhere near the far margin snags.

Then thereís a couple of French guys in 3 & 4. They have had about 25 fish between them to 45lb. They are fishing over to the far bank but sensibly so - about 5-10 yards off it. As a result theyíve only lost 3 fish.

Iím in 6. This is the shallow end of the lake and inevitably there are more fish here than elsewhere. Iím fishing up to the pads but not past them (rods at 100, 75 and 60 yards as you go left to right. Iíve now had over 25 takes and whilst I lost a couple in the lilies early on, Iíve moved the rods back a yard or 2 from the pads and am now landing virtually everything. Yes the fish arenít huge (Iíve had nothing over 40 so far) but this isnít a big fish water and shouldnít be seen as such. Iím here with my wife and wanted a change from my usual waters like Teillatts.

The lake is stunning. Iíve fished in France for nearly 30 years and there arenít many as nice as this. Like many lakes where you can only fish one bank, inevitably the fish patrol the far margin. In fact you see loads of fish right under the overhanging trees on that side. Fishing to them is pointless as the combination of snags and soft mouthed carp (itís a silty lake) means youíre going to lose more than you land. So fish close but not tight, put a bed of bait out and draw them from their cover.

Inevitably at some times of the year, given the lake has a deeper dam end and a shallow end, the carp distribution is going to be uneven and the fact that you can only fish one bank exacerbate the problem. That applies to many lakes both at home and abroad. On that basis, it may not be ideal for exclusive bookings at certain times of year but I would say Sept and Oct would see them spread more evenly for example. Iíve certainly fished far peggier waters than this.

Finally, itís worth pointing out that thrvfacilities are spotless and the hospitality second to none. I ran out of rig foam and whilst they didnít have any here, Julie got some for me within 24 hours. Last night we were also treated to homemade cookies and sangria 😊

We wanted somewhere that was beautiful, peaceful and with plenty of action so my wife could get an introduction to carp fishing. The lake has delivered on all counts with the benefits of excellent facilities and top notch hosts.

On the strength of the reports on this forum and with a lack of any positive reports to be found anywhere, my group have decided to bin our trip in October.

We will loose the deposit, but tbh I haven't been looking forward to the trip for a few weeks. It's a long week sat in front of an empty swim, and long range snag fishing is something I would rather not do.

Luckily we have found an exclusive free the same week on a lake we have fished before.

We asked some questions today of Majestic and the reply was that it was a privilege to fish the estate lake and a list of excuses for all the bad reports.

Booked an exclusive on Estate Lake through Armfield Angling for W/C 23rd June. Seven experienced carp anglers fished that week and how disappointed we all were! We have fished in France for many years and we have had some tough weeks due to spawning or the carp just not playing ball but Estate lake was different.
An extensive search with sonar revealed no fish in open water, it appeared that most of them were holed up in the far margins especially in front of swims five and six where they showed occasionally. I found a spot in swim three about 40 yards out that was slightly deeper than the rest of the lake, probably the old stream bed, so I put a couple of rods on this spot. Two and a half days and not a bleep later I decided to concentrate on the far margin.
The two guys in swims five and six managed to get a few runs fishing to snags on the far margin. Between them they landed eight carp and lost nineteen in the snags. The angler in swim one landed one carp and lost two. The other four blanked but lost another twelve fish in the snags. We rowed out to retrieve our rigs and check that fish were not tethered. This produced many yards of line attached to tree stumps, sunken branches and lily roots etc so obviously quite a few other anglers had experienced the same problems that we did!
The facilities were very good although we were informed by AA in an e-mail that there were no cooking facilities or a fridge supplied by the venue, just a freezer for bait so we took electric cool boxes. cookers, gas bottles and standard cool boxes with us only to find that all these things were available. That wouldn't have been so bad but we had hired a trailer and paid the extra ferry fare to transport all the extra equipment.
Julie, the lake owner, is a lovely lady and the venue is stunning but the fishing is not for the feint hearted or those pegged in swims one to four.
We have searched for catch reports but they are almost non existent so I'm wondering if anyone else has fished here and would love to know how they got on.
Advice to those who have booked this venue already - you'll need a good baitboat to fish the far margins. Don't fish in front of the lilies, fish the far side of them or you won't get a touch other than from bream. To those of you thinking about booking it - don't! My party formed the impression that a) There aren't that many carp present b) This lake has been hammered in years gone by so the carp live where they feel safe, in the snags.
Disappointed with the reply from AA who blamed spawning, which they weren't and simply said that they would pass my comments onto the venue. Fobbed off or what?

Hi All just thought i would write a quick review of my week at the estate lake in peg 3

Not the best of weeks ive had in france tbh , I only managed 1 sturgeon and a bream all week , pegs 1 and 2 also caught bream. It was clear from the start that the fish wanted to be in pegs 5 and 6 sat in the shallow water near the inlet stream. The two dutch anglers in there had 15 fish for 20 takes and the biggest was a 45lb common I think.
All the fish were coming from around 3-4ft of water very tight to the bank.
If you are fishing peg 3 you need a bait boat to get to the far margin but there are loads of lillies and underwater cabbages and i personally think the rigs were landing in these the majority of the time and were unpresentable.
you can walk along the opposite bank and if i was to fish peg 3 again i would wade out find some clearer spots and maybe mark with a pole and bait boat over to the pole. Dont go heavy with the bait , just a hand full of chopped boilie is fine. Ideally i think rowing boats should be allowed on the first day just to help you find spots but it is what it is i suppose.
I beleive there are ment to be some more fish added next year which will help but as already said the sturgeon are a pain in the arse and i did get alot of false runs from towing fish
The facilities are great , Julie the own is lovely , my wife and mum stayed in the Alexia accommodation which was immaculate. There are shops and super markets about a ten minute drive away .

One thing i will say is the rats where horrendous so take some traps , I caught 4 in traps in my bivvy !!
Other than the rats and blanking we had a great chilled out week

All carp came from two rod lengths off far margin between lillies, going out in a boat to place rigs!! castable just from swims 4-6 boat needed for swims 1-3, open water produced the cats and sturgeon but as we know that can change at any moment

Thanks for the info, we have an exclusive booking in oct 2018.

Apart from the fish that were stalked, did all the action come from the lillies or did you fish open water?

Hi ,3 of us fished it 3rd week of April all the carp were held up in the shallows and in the stream/brook (we stalked a few out of there one afternoon) that runs into the lake, my mate in peg 6 had 22 carp to 44lb, other mate in peg 4 had 10 carp to 34lb i was fishing from peg 3 into 1&2's water had cats, sturgeon and bream!! IMOA to many sturgeon in there!! constantly had lines being picked up by fish trailing line and was informed by the owner during the change over they go out in a boat cutting the lillies back which could explain why it fished so slow for the 1st 3-4 days!! I would say if anymore than six anglers it would be very tight with not a lot of water to go at!!. Beautiful setting stunning lake and great hosts, but it is being very well advertised!!

Thanks for your report Andy.
I have enquired about a lake exclusive on here for 2020.
Thing is, despite the fact that there are only 6 swims (I think) including a double, they reckon 9 can fish it???
I'm just concerned and had raised that with them, and your comments seem to bear this out?

Right . Held shore for an hour or two so I'll summarise .
Basically , apart from 25 Sturgeon , we blanked ! Conditions were Baltic . Temperature never got above 6 degrees and we had two days of snow ! We were in swims 1 and 2 and you would think that with that part of the lake being deepest ( 10ft) by Therma wall and also most sheltered form the Baltic easterly wind , that the fish would be there .. Wrong , they were all holed up in the shallows / islands in about 2ft of water and on the end of the wind ! There was a German guy fishing that end and ended up one landed and one lost .

On the plus side , the lake is beautiful . Very peaceful . The facilities are five star ( the cleanest and hottest showers I've ever had in France ) . The Wifi is faster than I have Home ! And the family that look after the lake are fantastic ! ( she made us some lovely cookies and bought a bottle of the local red wine down for us to try ) .
Can't fault anything really if I'm honest . We just chose the wrong week to go ! A week later Briiggsy was on there filming with Nash and he had some nice fish .. He did use a boat ( apparently on a lake exclusive you are allowed ! It's just they must have forgotten to write that in the rules ! )
You ideally need a bait boat if your in swims 1 to 4 ( you can cast 5 and 6 ) and a bait boat with a feature finder is a real plus . The far margins are where all the features ( some gullies ) and lillies are .
My only negative comment would be that despite some swims being removed , the ones that are left are fairly tight . I would imagine it wouldn't take much for a hooked fish to kite and pick up your neighbours lines .
Would I go back ... Yes , definately ( if the lovely Carmen lets me ! As I was a bit miffed at the perks the Nash team seemed to get ! )
Oh and dealing with Armfield and in particular , Carmen , was great . Very smooth and nothing was too much trouble ..
Have a good week , it's a great place

I watched this youtube vid of Martin Bowler on the Estate lake not sure if its recent though - The large area of pads can be seen - Maybe useful to you. https://youtu.be/QA4c_O7nUvI

Out there myself in March ( swims 1 & 2 ) . Like you say , info is sparse , however I'm guessing from the photos and Google Earth and the fact that the swims are all on one bank , that you boat or cast across ( if your in swims 5/6 ) to the far bank area . It' seems that that bank has a massive bed of lillies in front of it, so I'm assuming that the majority of the fish will be holed up thereabouts . Be interesting to hear frkm someone that has fished the lake ?

Im booked on the estate lake that is being run by armfield angling in may this year . Its only been open for a few years as a fishery so information on the place is abit sparse . Has anyone been before or has a trip planned for the future ?

cheers Scotty
