I don't use many forums. Have you got an example of a straightforward forum?

A fair point well made

99% of my forum viewing is either on my laptop at home or on my pc at work. On either of those it is very easy to post pictures.

The 1% I do use my phone I find it hard to use forums, that's why I don't do it and prefer to wait until I have a big screen.

I tried replying to this post last night while fishing and actually gave up, it's hard enough replying with text let alone trying to post pictures, bloody small phone screen!

It's a world where we want everything now, myself included. On the other hand, why not just sort the ****ing thing out and make it as straightforward as other forums?
Just how is it easy when using a tiny phone? And all phones are tiny.

622 B7 EAD 5 A2 E 485 A ABAB A8 ACC04 F7 E43 I couldnít agree more mate, everybody likes photos, and any forum is all the richer for them.

Look at the recent thread about modifying a certain reel, as soon as the photos were posted, it became clear for everybody.

Also the lovely pics in the catch results, and those beautiful photos in the view from your swim thread, including many of yours.

People learn how to use the internet, and in comparison, learning to post photos, is a piece of piss! think smiley 42

So come on you lazy gits, learn how to, and get those photos posted up ( sign0009 ) thanks

Posting pictures on here is really easy once you've done it a couple of times, would be nice if people learnt as the forum would be better with more pictures, I'm sure lots of members have great pictures that don't get seen because they can't work it out

It really does simply take a minute or 2, if you doubt that send me a picture and I'll post it!

Glad itís understandable mate, i think thatís always been the problem with anything computer related, itís all built on code.
Nowadays, we all want simplicity, so this photo hosting, and posting seems like a step backwards.

Same with links, i keep the code for posting links on my iPad or pc, then just paste in the URL of what i want to link to, and give it a name.
So really, itís lots of copy and paste DA444 A68 6 CE9 42 AC A344 95361 D966 CFF

Hi Andy, thanks mate, it's good to have a giggle isn't it

Regarding pics straight from a phone, tablet or pc etc. This would mean, this site would have to host the pics, so this would increase bandwidth usage, and in turn, higher costs for Karl and the site.

If just a few pics were hosted, it wouldn't make much difference but, if lots of pics were posted, which ironically they probably would, as it would be easier, this would have a considerable and noticeable effect on the server costs.

All the pics would be stored and hosted on the site's server, if they were removed from the server, they'd no longer show in the threads and posts here. They could also then be posted at other sites but, hosted here, again at cost.
So it can work out costly.

That's why free hosting sites are so handy for all of us. How long they'll stay free, before following Photobucket's example, is anybodies guess?

Most hosting sites have a resizing facility now mate. If you resize before or during uploading to a host, it saves copying two lots of code.
Otherwise you need the code that youíve posted, then the image code has to be copied into it.

If your pics are already resized, there is only the HTML image code to copy paste. All said and done, itís what people prefer, itís the end result that matters. 85 EBA6 A9 F97 D 470 C 8 A67 E2 C25 B138 B8 C

The main thing to remember with pics is, they should be no bigger than 600 x 400. So itís best to resize, before, or during uploading.

I think you've already frightened off a lot of people already Steve

I don't resize my pictures I add height=400 ( or suitable number) for example

< img src=http://www.joeblogs.com,/mypicture.jpg height=400>

Then you have already made things easier. No matter what host you use, i like ImgBB but there are others, anyway, once uploaded, with this site you alway need to choose HTML code. Then copy that code and paste into your post.

It really is that easy.

My guide in an earlier post, if followed properly will get you sorted.

I have pmíd these instructions to lots of members, who are all putting pics up now.
Even the smileys i use are basically hosted pics party0019

Strange how the cantankerous old ****ers know how to use the forum and yet many of the younger members don't.
I blame it on the over use of mobile phones, before smart phones became popular members would use laptops and computers to access the forum, consequently people would sit down and post stuff that was more rich with content and pics. Take Ken's input as an example

It is pretty easy to be honest. One guy on here asked me to suggest a site after the Photo****it fiasco and though he is a pretty thick Geordie he managed to post his pix straight away without any help from anyone else. Just try it. Use the Test Thread to experiment.

Could well be mate. To be honest, a forum i used to run was a bit dated but, everybody liked it, i thought about updating it to run on new different software but, the members werenít keen, so i left it.

Eventually the site got very busy, and the owner sold it to a big corperate company, making a nice few quid too.
The new owners asked if i would stay and carry on running it, which i did. Then a while later, they changed the software and look of the site to be more inline with their other sites and company image. It was horrible, nobody liked it, i never liked it either.

Some members said, if it didnít get changed back, theyíd stop using it. I then spent a lot of time learning how to use it, and helping everybody to use and navigate it. It took up so much of my time that i quit.

So, i guess the ďif it ainít brokeĒ rules applies?

This site, is very dated but, far from broken

It was said once that the unique look of the website was the reason for it not being changed. Other forums have that 'samey' look about them.

The reason this site is more difficult mate, is because it uses HTML code, where as the majority of sites use BB code. This has a big effect on how pics and links are posted.

The site is very out of date but works. I guess the cost to modernise it may be too great?

That to me is as easy as milking a bull.

I done them when you have a "add photo" window then you "browse" look at your pics then select one then "upload" then finally "add". (I think that's right, not done it for a while)

Even a pc idiot like me can do that

This is by far the best way iíve found:

1. Upload a photo or photos, they will go into a que, once you have all the photos or photo ready, click on that photo. You will then get a few options, name, resize etc.

2. Resize the photo or photos to 600 x 400, this is a good size for web photos. Then name the photos if you want, and choose which folder you want them uploaded too. Then hit the ďsubmitĒ button at the bottom.

3. Click the ďUploadĒ button

4. You should now see the photo has uploaded, if you click on it, you will have various options

5. Click the ďEmbedded codesĒ button, you will now have 5 boxes of code. Choose the second down from the top. Under ďFull image linkedĒ it will say HTML copy this code, then paste that code into your posts here. Repeat for all photos, itís done!

The reason you choose the HTML box is, because this site runs on HTML. On other sites that run BB code you will need to choose the BBCode box

Hope this is clear mate, if you get stuck, give me a shout

Steve

It is very easy:

1: Choose what picture you want to post
2: login to imagebb and hit the upload button
3. Copy the direct link
4. Go back to original thread
5. Type in < img src= width=500 >Post the direct link straight after the src= then leave a space after the link

Thereís no spaces either side of <> it just wouldnít let me show the code as it thought I was posting a pic

Why is uploading photo's such a headache on this forum? I've always used Photobucket, not that it was ever straight forward. But now the photobucket site seems a bit corrupt and is covered in adverts and pop ups.
Is there another way of uploading images that is less hassle, just I'm trying to help a bloke out in the tackle section.

Cheers, Steve
