The carp can get behind the island when it is busy.
While the main gravel bar is usually the spot, it can get to be bream city, but there are not so many big bream as there were, and there were some big ones, I mean 16lb plus.

There have been instances of anglers sending bait boats down the side of the island on the roadside from the platform pegs, I don't know if the bailiff has stopped this as the Melton Lakes webpage is no longer running.

I have fished Melton, but around 12 years ago. Any good bait will work, but try something that rejects the smell of the silt and dead weed as it stinks, maybe oil them up as its summer, fish for one bite at a time, i'd avoid pellet as there is quite a few bream. The hardest part of your fishing will be getting near the fish as it gets so busy. I'd get there and have a good look around just like any other lake, cast small slow sinking pop ups where u see fish, use lightest lead you can get away with, lengthen your rig. Failing seeing anything, they used to get on the end of a warm wind, put a bit of bait in the margin the winds hitting, and keep quiet, the margins often get ignored.
