In reply to Post #197 yes, sure is a long walk if you're in he wrong place - ask our members! Lots of them now moving towards using Power Porters and suchlike, which makes a lot of sense on a venue like this.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing the guys and gal (yes, we have one lady member! ) back on the banks after the 29th, and hopefully the renewed fishing pressure and input will be rewarded with a few decent fish, (including hopefully some of the rarely-seen ones) showing up.

In reply to Post #196 It was actually quite funny, he wanted to be scattered off the pole swim, his daughter phoned me to say she was at the lake and could I confirm she was at the right place, well she wasn't, she round the other side! As you know VW is not a small lake and she walked all the way round it carrying his ashes to get to the right swim. He would have laughed at that!

In reply to Post #195 That's a nice touch, Enut - and if he's still wandering the banks on 'the other side', then I hope he's still finding the early morning tench fishing to his liking!
He's not the only one, either - I see a number of annual 'memorials' spring up lakeside throughout the year, all of which we leave undisturbed, at least until the flowers go past their best. I doubt this is something that many syndicate water bailiffs encounter on their rounds!

In reply to Post #194 That's really good to hear. My old fishing buddy passed away in 2019 and, with the estate's permission, his ashes were scattered off the pole swim. If there's a lake in heaven I'm pretty sure it would be like Virginia Water and Chris will be happily spending his mornings fishing there.

In reply to Post #193 Yes, a quieter angling year, for obvious reasons, but for those who did get time out on the lake during the various lockdown periods, there were a few nice fish brought to the bank, including three 40lb+ fish (2 mirrors and a common), which are our first official syndicate-caught VW carp over that weight.
A goodly number of 30+ fish showing as well, and hopefully these too will cross the 40+ threshold before long. As is always the case on a water like this one, with many areas to aim at, combined with light angling pressure, its all about doing the homework and finding the fish.
Syndicate will be re-opening full time on 29 March. Membership is currently full, but all interested anglers are welcome to join the waiting list if they so wish.

In reply to Post #191 Saw some photos in the angling press today. There's a nice 38.5 pictured in Anglers Mail, and in the ATimes Carpfeed mag there's a very good article by Ian Lewis, inc photos. Seems like a few guys are beginning to get amongst 'em - will be interesting to see what comes out. Hopefully I'll be one of the guys catching them haha!

In reply to Post #190 The only action my bivvy is seeing is acting as a makeshift pushchair garage at Glastonbury.

In reply to Post #189 Weed doesn't seem to be putting the fish off. I've spoken to Rob the bailiff and he says there's been fish caught all round the lake, including some 30s, best one just over 38.

In reply to Post #188 Had a look yesterday - yes definitely more weed than last visit. Lots of fish visible though, and close in. Will need to think about how to beat the weed; maybe pva bags or just seek out a clear spot.

In reply to Post #186 Rob-vw;
any updates on how the lakes are fishing at the moment? I've heard that a few 30s have been out in the last month but not seen any photos anywhere - was told there were a couple of pictures in Angling Times/Anglers Mail, yes?
Also, what's the weed situation like - clear, or likely to get heavily weeded this year?
thanks

In reply to Post #183 Hi Andy, I have to say the ancient old.mirrors you refuer to in the obelisk are a fairly recent thing . When we used to fish it there was no mirrors at all in the lake , only commons in there , quite a wild strain , of which the biggest was around 26 to 28 lbs , it was caught by Tony Jonson and there used to be a picture of it on the wall in Davies angling in Staines .
