Has anyone done a December / January trip before?

Looking for something to do next year over the festive period which unfortunately bores the life out of me.

How did you get on and what can the weather be like?

Thanks a lot guys, nice to know these pics are liked and are worth popping up

The recent pics were mostly taken by a great lad named James West who was a guide and angling photographer on BEO for the last 5months , it's been wonderful to get some proper shots of the lake, I'll try to pop a few more up.

Cheers all

Morning,

Got to say it fought like a beast and certainly gave me a run for my money, water where the main battle happened after initial pick up was 16 metres deep so it was a fantastic opportunity to let her rip in open water.
Have you rebooked yet??

Well the Mirrors eluded me again, but 18 Commons to just over 20kg and a tench has seen me heading back to Marrakech a happy chappy.
Every single one of them bought a smile to my face and a real sense of achievement at getting a result, all in all another fantastic trip to our Great Lake BE0.

Itís been a great trip for me, plenty of weather stuck on top of Yuri Island, itís certainly not for the feint hearted😂😂
Still it seems to have calmed down a bit now and Iím enjoying the sun with 14 bars of Moroccan gold under my belt👍👍 so far.
Cheers to James, Grant, Sam and the local team for their help and support, 3 nights to go so that elusive BEO Mirror may well pick up one of my baits yet, already planning the next trip and this ones probably got a few surprises left in it yet.

Bad luck chaps, the blanks make us appreciate the good sessions though.
There are some whackers with your names on, just a matter of time until it all falls into place.

respekt And good luck for next time

Sympathies BW and Malph. It's a bastaard when you get pissed on from a great height. I went to St Cassien in 2000 and had to move the bivvy back three times. Ended up above the normal water level and still got flooded out. The water was gushing through the pipes that drain the hills and the road a good twenty feet before hitting the deck. Anyone who has seen the size of the bore on those pipes (they must be three feet in diameter) will know just how much water was flowing through them.

Still nil desperandum and all that. Bet you are undeterred and are going back.

Quick you tube vid of the first swim, if you note the distance of the water to the camp, the night before (12 hours) we had dragged the camp back approx 25 meters from the waters edge at it came up that fast overnight.

Back saturday afternoon mate, no fish hammered by the weather, 3 camp moves in 3 days due to some of the fastest moving water levels i have ever seen. Difficult conditions for the boat for the first few days but all worked hard against the elements and trying to bag one.

Still madly in love with the place and plan to.head back in October.

Shouts to the Ralphster aka dusk till dawn and Bondy for getting stuck in and keeping the moral high in **** conditions.

I can put some pics up if any interest but all scenics unfortunatley

Thats fishing

Good luck, guys. I'd love some of that Morocan...(Fishing, that is). Hope the airport is not snowed in.

Have been fishing recently but I'm too chicken to fish in what's coming our way as it looks like the SW is going to get a right pummeling come Thursday afternoon and into the w/e.

Stay safe one and all.

Sounds pretty tuff mate, but it's still a chapter in your fishing whether it's gone to plan or not, fair play!
would love to see a big Aussie carp one day tho, must be one of two out there.

Mexico is my next stop, some very big wild carp out there in some incredible remote waters, I'll be searching out there this year...
Carping alongside Mexican Cartel should be interesting....

Keep up the hunt Jon and best wishes

Sam,

Well my Australian adventure has turned into what can only be described as a carping nightmare, basically 5 years wasted. The meth explosion has made the banks as fishable as oxford street at chucking out time on a Friday night and they started releasing the KHV virus last year.
Secretive isn't the word for it, almost all the dedicated guys I know hardly talk to each other about fishing now and the big fish rumours are rife with bull****. Cant wait to get back to Eastern Europe and continue my original journey.

Winter there sounds right up my street and I will definitely be visiting you at some point

Really glad you're doing well

Best

Jon

Hope your well

Thanks mate, right now it's a tuff old place up there in the Atlas Mountains in winter, one min it's dry and sunny the next it's heavy snow, but all the anglers and guides are getting on with it and some mega fish are coming out for people's efforts..

It's a tuff old wild water, and a real adventure, not everyone's cup of tea but for those who Ike to explore something a little different Bin El Ouidane is one unique place!

The pics have the look of colour enhancement but that's what advertisers do,its all about the product.
Generally speaking, bright sunlight and sunny, clear skies are rubbish for photography, hence the need for photoshopping pictures. Otherwise the pics come out flat and dull.
Still, can't knock paid for advertisers, it also helps with forum costs.

Fair enough Sam, as i say they were genuine questions.

I come on here primarily because of my love of carp angling, like many others. So, i appreciate the good things in the carp scene, whether that be the fish, the venue, or tackle etc.
So those are the things of real interest to me. I love the banter, and a giggle on here very much too.
I also try my best to help people out, iím sure a good few members would confirm this.

The arguing or politics is what happens on a lot of forums. I know this too well as i used run a couple.
You might see some stuff as nit picking, others may see it as something for discussion?
Like the Terry Hearn stuff, i have fished with, and know a lot of well known anglers, and most of them, i have respect for, as anglers, and people. I donít always agree with how they fish though, or some of their tactics. And they may think the same about me?

Thatís not nit picking, the respect is still there regardless. One of my sons works for me, he is very good at his job, and i get regular compliments about him and how he works. He and i both do a great job but, differently.
We sometimes mention certain things to each other about which way is best, or nit pick if you like?
We never argue about it though, as all said and done, we have our own ways, and they work for us.
Fishingsís the same isnít it?

So, i try and focus on the important things here, which are, just what i mentioned, the fish, photos etc, venues and info, and tackle.

Sometimes along the way, people will argue here but, the fact that this forum still ticks along nicely after all these years, after various menbers have come and gone, says a lot i think youíll agree?

You and i have had more than one or two ding dongs but, that doesnít mean i canít appreciate a great venue and great fish etc, iím really not that shallow.

I think the photos and fish at your place are superb, and, i often gaize and admire the photos in this thread. What genuine carp angler wouldnít?

As i said, just some genuine questions, out of interest.

Thatís all

Skear bud
I'm sorry that wasn't entirely directed at you it's previous comments that I've read that were written purely to sound negative I understand yours was most likely a genuine question and fair play, I just answered it as I see it.

As for sensitive types, lol maybe I am or maybe I'm just overly passionate about topics I feel strongly about, as a result I realise the forum isn't for me these days, hence why I try to stay off here but on a thread like this that concerns BEO occasionally I'll post when I feel I should..

I'm the meantime I'll leave the forum to get on with it......

To be honest, i wasnít having a dig, or nit picking, i was asking genuine questions.

I think the trouble with this forum, if there is any, is oversensitive types, getting touchy about anything they see questioned.

For what itís worth, i think the majority of the fish pics posted from your place are lovely, the fish are mostly lookers, one or two munters, but thatís to be expected, you get that anywhere.

Anyway, just genuine questions, sorry you lost your temper (again) 68 FA4 B94 AD28 4156 B9 A6 4 B5 CF7636800

All this concern for filtered images is amusing?
most of what you see today in film, tv, press, fashion, tourism, sport, art infact just about anything that is used commercially online or in print would have gone through a digital editing process...

Believe it or not, on BEO the sky often is that blue! The rich bright red clay ground really can look that red! And the water is actually that turquoise......the sun does actually shine and the fish do tend to look golden lol

Some Photos we are sent are edited to simply sharpen the structure, and if too bright due to the sun that maybe edited slightly to focus more on the fish, nothing new in that lads, I can assure you every photo you see these days of carp used to sell products or used in any commercial way would have had some digital enhancement, please there is nothing new or wrong in that...

That's the world we live in today, let's get on with it, whether you guys on here would edit a photo or not.

Similar to the lovely Terry Hearn video thread, there's way too much nitpicking on this forum, people looking for the smallest of things to pick away at, which is a great shame..

Be lucky all and once again Terry, Dean Ralph etc
Lovely to get to know a few of you on BEO and well done to you all

What a fish!, and iím liking those shorts

Are the majority of the photos filtered, because itís so bright, with little cover there?

Do anglers still have to use the tackle provided, and not their own?

I'm afraidthe size thing has been going on for a long time , to where we are now , people asking Sam about 80s , nearly 20 years ago I caught my first 40 from a river , obviously I was buzzing , when I finished and pulled into Calais ,a group of anglers pulled up behind me , so we get chatting (as we do ) about what we have caught , I excitedly say I had caught my first 40 ,
Then it happens ,
We had dozen 40s this week and a few 50s etc as if my solitary 40 ment nothing , I just turned around and went back to my motor lol
I like big fish ,but you can't put a price on a good adventure in great surroundings ,
All though, I still think BEO could do with some trees

Not since crazy Hungarians started diggings ponds and feeding carp sickening amounts of bait till they bloat up and reach 100lbs, 40s arent what they once were

The number of enquiries we get from lads asking for guaranteed 70lb 80lb etc carp, is amazing, I politely suggest that maybe they've got the wrong attitude for a lake like BEO!
I recognise that the international carp world, has very much fallen victim to the obsession of size, and really big by today's standards is any anything between 80-100lb that's what people want, that's what a big carp is today.....

But a wild 40 is still to me bloody massive.......

Big ones......
By EuroAqua standards these may not be deemed as big ones to some of you guys, these fish are all wild uncaught fish that have grown on naturals or snails to be more precise, as many who have fished BEO know, there is far more to fishing a unique wild water as this, than just looking for big carp, if it's big 100lb carp your after there are plenty of commercials to cater for that, each to their own.....

Although we've had fish to 93lb caught in nets on BEO, and I'm sure there are a few massive uncaught fish this size still in there, we tend to fish it for the thrill and rare opportunity to catch uncaught wild healthy carp, the size of these fish seems almost irrelevant it's more about the unknown and the adventure and the incredible setting and beautiful carp that makes it's so special.

However the number of fish we have over 40lb -60lb these days is immense,
Here are just some 40s from the last few weeks to 52lb

All in all well done and thanks for sharing the details with the forum, Iím sure there will be other members that have been watching and waiting for the positive feedback on that great place BEO👍

Been a bit of interest in our trip so here is a few pics and a video to hopefully share some of the experience. We knew in the build up to the trip it wasn't as prolific as it can be but a few where still coming out and with a bit of graft and some luck we figured we could still bag a few. The trip as a whole was excellent and would like to thank Sam and the guys on the ground at BEO for there support and generally being all round top lads with regards to planning, logistics etc. Hope to see you again early 2018

The camp

Little Ralphy the pet dog

Daily boat ops although as the trip moved on it became clear that they where happily taken baits that had been sat in the mud 36-48 hours

Tiger nuts accounting for all of the fish bar one, we sacrifed a lot of kit and took 10kg with us.

Toilet with a view !

Sunset over the camp

†My mirror

Ralphys Mirror (and the fish of the trip !)

My common

Boat ride home

Final night beers at the hotel

Last night in the hotel with the BEO crew

Rocky the guard dog sleeping on shift as we left the hotel at 3am for Marrakech

Here is a you tube video of our swim, showing access to rods etc, with the water so low it was tricky and the mud 3ft deep in places at the waters edge. We built a couple of piers to allow us better access to rods/boat. Adapt or die as they say !

Im with you on this Sam the term 'Guide' is being misused and possibly miss understood

and for people that havent been there it would be easy to get the wrong idea

these folks just help with the logistics bring you food put tents up etc

they dont tell you where or how to fish in any way shape or form just in case people are getting confused
although Im guessing if you wanted help in that direction they would help ?

when I fished it I decided to move twice during my trip and I decided where and when I wanted to move these guys just did the carrying I decided what bait I wanted to use etc

I must say ANYONE thats keen on carp, fishing should consider going to this amazing location at least once in their lifetime trust me the memories will last you a lifetime and cost wise its often CHEAPER than a french trip

To be honest Paul I have read your posts and I personally donít see any thing wrong with them and I certainly would not have taken offence to them either.
Itís certainly a place I would like to fish and I think for me a guide would be important on such a vast lake for me in my opinion. Many uncaught fish regardless of size is becoming very hard now days.

OK my last post on this , because quite frankly your over reacting Sam , the fact you PM me complaining , then Ken makes his post lol
Not once have I suggested that those fish the lads have caught have no merit , I wouldn't post such thing , I made it clear I understood why you use guides for such a water , and that I would not ,so would not fish such a water , my choice is it not ? Does that mean I think there is no merit lol, just to suffer the heat and lack of trees and bloody flying , gives it merit , if thats what the guys are looking for ? Personally I think merit is probably the last thing the guys who fish it ,think about , something different and an adventure must be quite high I guess ,
If however anyone that has been and posted on here is offended by anything I seem to have said ,then I apologise .
Peace and love

Hello chaps
Firstly great fishing Tel, so chuffed you guys managed a few fish it's been tuff going the last few weeks so well done!

All this talk of guides makes me chuckle, I think the term 'Guide' is being misused slightly, the guys we have working on the lake each day are simply there to make it possible for people to fish this challenging and immense lake, in as much comfort and safety as possible, the environment and climate of BEO is nothing like you'd find in Europe so to draw comparisons to what you've experienced in Europe whilst carping without a 'guide' is I'm afraid unrealistic, no matter whether it's the orient in mud and wind ( a water I regard as being tuff) or any other hard continental water, BEO is still a major challenge both physically and mentally, and we have staff on the lake to make sure those that fish it are kept an eye on and are safe to enjoy the fishing and get the most out of the adventure.

As Ive stated before should anyone wish to try and drive into morocco with their own gear in a van, including boats, motors, batteries, hundreds of kilos of bait, etc etc to last a session, then you really are welcome to give it a bash, just getting into morocco and past boarder control with a van of fishing gear is near in impossible these days, then a drive from Tangier to BEO is one hell of trip, then the reality of keeping fresh food, batteries charged, remaining in good health, finding licenses and absolutely everything else that goes into a session on a big water like BEO is no easy task, morocco is nothing like Europe, everything is hard work even the smallest of tasks, life is not easy out there especially at the top of a North African mountain, in the sun and altitude.

So this attitude that it's not worthy of merit to have a guide, is a bit ott! Our guys on the lake work like crazy in some demanding conditions, to keep anglers fishing this very special place..
If you think its a case of our guides putting you on fish and wiping your arse as you just sit back and reel them in, then you've got it all very wrong, I'd be a rich man if it was that easy...

Like the thousands that climb Everest each year, the climb would not be possible without the help from local Sherpas, they make the climb possible, so equally our guides are just making the fishing possible on BEO, and there is not a single part of that, that warrants any negativity.

See some of you soon, and happy fishing to the rest of you

as I said each to there own Ken , I can see why they are used on far off waters , for tackle ,bait etc , it makes sense , but it's not for me , if. I had the funds and the time ,I would want to do it on my own , but that's the way I am ,and that's why I won't fish those waters (unless I get a lottery win ) I'm certainly not looking down my nose at those that do choose to be guided , it's there holiday and good luck (got that Sam )
I don't think very favourably about using guides on rivers in France though

Without the guides at Raduta I would have been floundering in the dark...And without your 'guidance' on the Lot, Paul, the same would have applied. We are all guided in different ways and I see no shame in accepting all the help I can get!

We loved the place even though our week was very slow. They way the guides were, the service, the hotel everything was brilliant. The lake is barren but beautiful and the fish are mint! I can imagine itís epic when they are having it, reminds me of the st Lawrence a few years ago when you hoped your other rod didnít go because you canít play two high speed reel emptying carp at the same time!! I will return for sure. The only down side I can see is all the netting that goes on by the locals. I dread to think of the carp they catch and sell. But I guess itís their livelyhood and they have been doing for years. Big old chunk of water and she can be savage at times......just how we like it though!

I understand exactly what you mean Rivers.
Pretty much all my fish over several trips in the early days were on maize, now with the bookies

You can choose to take in everything the guide/s may or may not tell you, or work things out for yourself, which I like to do.
But for the nice gear supplied and the guides/helpers & logistics of moving swims around the lake, it is nice to choose an area and then graft away at it, more pleasing that way.

Nicely put
Something I have found and been doing for many years and most certainly not on a commercial ,and neither with guides (each to there own )
The lake does look stunning , apart from what seems to be a lack of tree cover lol , and I don't believe that big fish can't be targeted ,its just harder when you can't get on the water often .

I will add my reference to using guides is not a dig , if that's the only way you can get on the water ,then you do what you have to , not for me though .

Plenty of previous captured fish go missing for years.
It isnít really a water where you can target the big fish specifically.
There are no big mug Ďtetraí fish chained to the Ďhot swimí like Uk or French commercials.

The beauty is when the average size of what you are catching changes for the bigger, your location is now sorted, now work it for every bite until they move off again!
Those fish are catchable, and the next one could be really special big bar of gold, or a mini bar of gold, or a priceless heavy scaled mirror

Hi Wayne,

At BEO I really would have to say Itís not really the size that matters, when you are out there itís more the fact you are able to catch fish that have probably never been hooked before.
I didnít have any real lumps as you put it, but every one I did land was pristine, fought like a demon and took all of our guile and cunning to catch this time around.
I can assure you most people going to BEO are there for more than the carp, itís the atmosphere, scenery, local people and absolute peace and quiet you experience during your stay, 15000 acres of water, sun, sand, mud and of course the carp.
The place gets under your skin, and if you enjoy a challenge it will draw you back time and time again, every trip a little different to the last, all in all it is a magical destination and one I would thoroughly recommend to any angler up for the challenge.
All the best

Hi there,
Yes Arjan and his friend dropped into the same swim we were fishing and the fish continued feeding, so they are in the right place👍👍
Really hope they get a few of the big girls drop into the area before they head off home.

Cheers Andy,

It was probably the toughest but most rewarding trip I have had to BEO, just getting ready to book my next trip back out there for late spring 2018.
Itís a fantastic place, stunning scenery, beautiful fish, brilliant team on the ground and lovely local people.
All in all I canít think of a good reason not to go back.

Hi mate,

No trouble with mozzies, however there are plenty of tiny flies about if you put your head torch on when wading through the mud at night to land a fish.
Otherwise this time a pretty bug free zone.

Evening all,
It was our last few hours on BEO this morning and as ever she kept us on the edge of our seats.
09.00 and two rods were away within a few seconds of each other, landed 2 more pristine commons that battled every inch of the way.
So we came away with 21 fish, every one a gem, well more a bar of Moroccan Gold, but thatís just splitting hairs.
Will I be coming back, mmmmmmm, I thought about it for a nano second before speaking to Sam/Grant re dates for spring 2018 so watch this space.
Iím not able to post photos on hear(too techi)but happy to share them via mail or WhatsApp, just drop me a line/pm
Signing off now as I board a plane for Gatwick👍👍

Afternoon all,
Itís been one of those days, Flip Flop Bob & I have had 19 runs, landed 16 and lost 3 since 08.00.
BEO certainly put us to the test this morning, there was one moment where I had 3 runs at the same time,(well within 30 seconds of each other) if I hadnít seen it with my own eyes Iíd have been hard pressed to believe it.
Anyway the afternoon wind is banging through and the fish are presently giving us a rest, letís see what joys our last night on the Great BEO has in store for us.
Grinning like a Cheshire Cat is an understatement.

Well as we all know our fishing fortunes can change in the blink of an eye, Grant and Sam moved us down the far end of the lake towards the Dam where Grant Caught his first stunning BEO mirror, and WOW what a change of fortune.
Fish lumping all over the place last night, but all remained quiet on the rods, then this morning it kicked off, for the better I have to say, 3 runs, 1 dropped, but 2 stunning bars of Moroccan Gold in the net, they took the form of 2 beautiful lean Commons.
Just as I was beginning to doubt my wisdom in another trip to BEO, ability and sanity along comes the ďGreat Carp GodĒand changes everything, what a fickle lot we are.
2 days to go so still time for that elusive BEO Mirror.
Thanks to both Grant and Sam for their perseverance in putting us on the fish and a big thumbs up to the team on the ground who are looking after the best interests of we the ever expectant carp angler.

Hi Phil,
Amended the post, we arrived Thursday pm (12th) and there have been 2 fish out since then(today 18th)clearly we can only go by Feedback from the guides, but they are good guys and have no reason to play tunes with the information being given.
Anyway it appears the same as I type today, fish can be seen in shoals on Sonar but near the surface, I have seen absolutely no fish deep on the Sonar, completely different from earlier trips.
It seems the whole lakes switched off, been speaking to Grant and Sam who like most anglers present are at a loss as to the reason, oh well thatís fishing, it could all change with the blink of an eye, otherwise I shall sit back and enjoy the trip.
Itís a cracking place to be even in an unusual quiet period, great food, atmosphere, views, sunshine, peace and quiet👍👍
Forgot to ask, where were you fishing?
Cheers

Cheers mate,
This time tomorrow I should be ďwalking on sunshineĒ as I head out from the airport into the hustle and bustle of Marrakech👍👍
We are on the early flight so the plan is to go straight to the lake, it seems a long time since the last visit, but the day is almost upon us.
Iím all packed 20kg to the gram, but Iíve ended up with the leads in my coat pockets, ridge monkey power vault in the hand luggage My mate Flip Flop Bob has repacked 4 times to get the weight down to 20kg

Canít get my head around it in the past we used to pack and 20kg was easy to do, now itís a nightmare, I suppose itís all the creature comforts we now take like spare pants that make the difference.
Will try to update as week goes on, canít to photos as Iím crap at that, but if we manage to squeak a few bars of African Gold out I will update the topic👍👍👍
In the mean time Iím off to have my last bacon sandwich for 11 days 😂😂🐖😂😂

Great thanks mate.... you may be able to answer a couple of questions for me as you have been before.

My mate wants to go next year but is a little concerned about the trip from the airport. He has a dodgy back and gets car sick quite easy, we have recently been fishing some mountain lakes in Spain and the roads got pretty rough so we had to stop often.

What is the trip like from the airport.
What are the roads like.
Do they stop for a break.
Also mate I hear the lake is mostly commons, did you catch many mirrors.

Cheers

Should be interesting to see this, BEO is one of the most unique waters worldwide so it's nice to finally give a few people out there the chance to see it.
Korda are also revising in January so we are keen to see how they get on...

One thing I feel is worth a mention, this was filmed prior to us taking over last year.
It was filmed in March and we took over the license later that summer.
We have put so much into ensuring all our gear is quality, such as new lowrance DSI fishfindets, Vortex 3.0m Deluxe boats, New Vortex and Minn Kota 55lb thrust motors and a fresh battery change each morning!
All rods, slings, etc etc etc are all quality and gear made for big water carping..

One of the biggest issues with the previous company was their gear was old and *****! I had paid to fish with the previous company and was dissatisfied to say the least..

The number of anglers re-visiting BEO again now we have taken over is great to see, I put my name to all this and had a clear vision as to the level of service and quality of the gear I wanted..

So tonight's show should be good, but now we are running trips the actual set up will be even better than what it was when Tom, Ali etc were in the lake.
so happy days to all those looking to pop out.

We are already pretty much fully booked for most of this year and early 2018!
Jan Feb March and April this year produced an immense number of big uncaught fish, so 2018 is consequently filling up..

nice one lads
As many of you know on here i hate the idea of pressured commercial french puddles just milking as much money as they can each week, overcrowded with anglers and with fish just over fed into bloated lumps..

We are keeping the numbers down on BEO to 20anglers a week, on 15,000acres, thats almost 750acres per angler

The fish look immaculate and the environment will remain untouched and stunning as a result of this minimal pressure....

that is our ethos
