Does anyone still frequent these lakes.

Me and a mate are booked on lake 4 May 2024 for my 40th. I didn’t want to drive abroad and I don’t think Crete lakes is for me. I’ve watched some videos on YouTube and am part of the Facebook pages.

Has anyone got any tips or info regarding either the whole experience or lake 4 in soecif. I’d class myself as fairly competent and at the end of the day it’s a holiday too.

You don’t need tags for your buckets just write on the top of the bucket what ever lake your on so they know when they unload the trailers at the lakes what lake it’s for .

Both the coaches run out of bicknacre where their based the one coach leaves first which heads straight to the reylon car park Dover pick up point the other one follows not long after depending on how many their are to collect from the reylon carpark determines if the other coach also goes to the reylon car park or straight to the port of Dover .

Leaders wise either clear or gravel but in my opinion leaders ain’t needed out their

Hi I don’t know if this forum is still active but worth a try

I’m going to dreamlakes in April on my first french trip so am a bit inexperienced in the whole thing
I just have a few questions if someone could help me out

Firstly I’m a little worried about luggage on the coach, it says you get 7 tags but what about a few extras will that be okay ie bait buckets, kettle

Also is there 2 coaches 1 from Dover and another from Chelmsford or does 1 coach pick up everyone?

Lastly I’m thinking of using safe zone leaders, what colour would best suit the lake I’m fishing lake 1

Thanks

Only a few weeks away now, on lake 1. What's the preference on rigs out there? As in colour. In the UK I use silt colour for 99% of my fishing

Hi mate

Cant see the DL team getting wound up about you using barbless, however, many of the korda hooks are micro-barbed. We have used korda kontinental in 2 and 4, wide gape is a good choice, and many over there use kranks.

We have used snowman 18mm 16mm on the 2s and 18mm 12mm on 4s and simple blow-back style with rig ring. Used either coated or uncoated Braid. Despite this very standard approach one of us has been top rod on our lake 5 out of 6 visits to the place so this basic set up obviously is not an Issue.

Hope that helps.

"use micro-barbed hooks only"

Is it acceptable to use completely barbless hooks? If not, a Korda hooks okay?

Thanks.

Hi folks

Off to fish Maronis lake for 13 days at start of Sept. Looking for carp and cats.

Have been to DL a number of times so know what the lake looks like, but would appreciate any background information from anyone that has fished it or been recently and seen others having a crack?

Crays? What sorts of distances people typically fish at? What does the bottom look like? Any favoured swims or areas to fish? Baiting tactics etc?

How many have been fishing it recently? The DL facebook siden has no mention of the lake in past two months since opening. Have people been struggling on there or has there not been many customers on the lake?

Once again, any helpfull information welcome

Kevin

You get the tags and your swim draw 2 weeks before you go . Also bare in mind when you get the paperwork for the swim draw it will say swim then a number that is where you are in the draw not what swim you are fishing

Hi guys,

Thought I'd already posted this but obviously not? We're out in September and 2/3 of my party want to settle their balances now, in a lump. Is that okay? Do Dreamlakes do card payments over the phone? I don't want to do a PayPal payment online as that incurs a 5% surcharge

Thanks.

Hi, a group of us are thinking about going back to dl. We went 5 years ago, hired lake 3 (7 of us) and all had a great time. I've had a look on the website, and it seems that the catch rates are generally down from when I last went. Is it a bit harder than it used to be? Cheers.

Hi guys,

Looking at lake 5 (all that's left as I write)in late September next year... any comments? Like whether or not to even go then?

Going with two mates and apparently there are two guys already booked, meaning the lake will be full.

Thanks.

"There is also a between Swim 9 and 10 so look for that"

there u go its on the swim guide on the web site

From Swim 9 fish to the lifebuoy on the far bank behind Swim 23 - at 19 wraps you'll find a nice smooth spot just before some gravel. From Swim 10 look across to Swim 22 and the three big trees to the right of the swim to find a good spot at 19 wraps. There is also a between Swim 9 and 10 so look for that too - it's not far out.

I was considering swims 9/10 the double so I can be near my lad and help out, are there any good features . As I have ordered 15mm guess its bags or spomb but with the hot weather don't think large quantities will be needed. Just been in the garage sorting the gear OMG so many bags. can't wait now only one week to go.

All swims produce on DL2

The middle is between 18-20 wraps from most swims but i've had fish from much closer in. Just because most people fish to the middle, doesn't mean its always the best place to be.

Being 8/9 in the draw you have lots of choice but generally the middle and corner swims get picked first.

I'm off to DL2 on 27th having swapped from lake 1 due to cancellation on 2. Looks like the weathers getting hot with little wind there any recommendations on swim choice as I have never fished 2 before, we are 8/9 in the draw. My sons not the best of casters , roughly how far is the middle, I'd rather catapult than spomb to keep disturbance down. Bring on the lucky ice creams

The mats are not meant to be free you're meant to hire them so to be sure hire and pay for one in advance before you go.

Hi guys, off out next Friday to DL3. I have spoken with Dreamlakes about Landing mats and they have said to just ask the bailiff for one when we arrive. Do we take the chance of not taking one and there being some spare?? Thanks

Yes mate hopefully going to do our 4th DL video this year but Mark says only if I stop taking the piss. He didn't know I was going to put pics of him on the tree in his swim every morning! Still it was funny seeing his face the first time he saw the video! The wife said "it wasn't much of a fishing video last year was it because you didn't catch many fish" so this year we're going to show her!! I do f••kin hope so, Haa ha!

Yeah we really struggled as we ended up in Herbies Hole and Deer Dip. There really wasn't much room to go anywhere else as we were last in the draw! The majority of the fish were up the other arm up to the Snags although some fish did get caught from Sunsets and the pads. We both caught fish an hour after arriving and thought, here we go but the fish buggered off, you could here the alarms going all night across the spit! On the last night the two of us both squeezed into kingfishers and shared three rods as some guys left early. I had 2 and my mate had 1 and lost a good fish in the moon light! You know what we still had a laugh and enjoyed the week even if the fish didn't play ball. That's fishing isn't it. Just spent a few hours today re spooling my reels and getting my kit sorted ready to go in two weeks, can't Freakin wait!!

Bonjour I was out on Lake 2 the other week, let's start on Lake 1 was only around 6 people on Lake 1 is a little weed on the bar and round some of the swims had a walk around the bailiffs was doing loads of work cutting back all the swims an taking out all the dead wood, as for swim you want don't worry about it find out what it's fishing like on the day no to days are the same fish move about people seam to forget this, as for rigs use what you know works for you, me I like to use pva bags as I know my rig will always spot on, wafters are working week in week out so that kind of rig is worth starting of with an zigs will catch you fish, DONT GO MAD WITH LOADS OF BAIT, fish for a take not a hit you will build a hit not make one happen, had some right idiots next to me Monday morning on Lake 2 with 50 k each of crap bait moved in next to me I had had 6 fish buy Monday morning, ****s moved in an out go's the spom told them fish for a take NO SPOD SPOD SPOD, NO MORE FISH FOR ME killed it, idiots, one idiot stuck out 20k on the first day, again no fish of the bait, he ended up fishing away from it for a fish at a time, lison to the bailiffs they see what's going on week in week out, if the carp are getting there heads down you will be OK to give it to them. But never go with that mind set, I went with some friends 2 of them never fished dream lakes before both had 40s up to 48 my mate had 12 carp out 3 40s it was a hard week made hard buy idiots chucking in loads of bait that the carp didn't want to eat that week, my friend used only 1 k a day we was using sticky baits manilla, a good bait in my eyes and one that the carp can easily digest, when there not wanting loads, think about what swim your in on the day the fish move about so don't panic if you still had no fish buy Monday night, sharp hooks good bait an safe strong rigs will catch you carp, an that's it in a nut shell, anything you would like to ask more than happy to help have a good one... Sid

Me and Mark are off to DL2 in 2 weeks! Can't believe we've come out last again, 17-18th! We came out last in the draw on DL1 last year! I'm sure it will be fine but to come out last for 2 years in a row! Bit disappointed we've not got much of a choice again, but I did come out first on DL3 3 years ago and caught my first 50! Fingers crossed!

The mats are for hire and can be booked in advanced if you want to be certain.

Don't sweat it fella!!

Fish as you would in England but.......have enough bait to hold them if they're on the munch..

Most of all enjoy it-your on holiday!!

If your struggling use the bailiffs knowledge,it's free and that's what they're there for to make it enjoyable

Sounds a nightmare mate!
Still that's a nice total for a week on DL1, was that down the Snaggs arm of the lake?
We were down the other arm last year as we came out last in the draw and really struggled, really
Looking forward to getting back on DL2 last week of August!

Yeah it was a jacksons coach......AGAIN! second time in my last 3 trips I've had to deal with a coach breakdown, time to drive myself I think

I fished lake 1 and did alright.....finished on 49 carp, only had 11 by Wednesday morning but then around 35 more in the next 3 days, that'll do

All caught on #MILK #ONE from BIG FISH BAITS

Hi I have fished dl1 many times, in your situation being last I would not choose a swim now, walk the lake after your chums ave walked off to there chosen swim, look for the fish and choose a swim where the fish are showing or as 8 said the less pressured part of the lake. Plan to be on your toes, move into the gaps if your mates are catching. ..... Enjoy..

Sunset is a very good peg on its day. Or look for the quietest area on the lake. Open water seems like it will be less pressured.

Never fished it at this time of year but it fishes pretty well all year round, pretty much all tactics, rigs work so stick to what you are conifident with. A good quality bait in my opinion is a must, if you have no idea what bait to go with then stick with the Cell that they sell on site and you won't go far wrong. If the sun gets on the water don't ignore zigs and the margins are well worth a go and produce a lot of fish, there is plenty of room to move so if you see them showing and you can move onto them then move. The bailiffs are absolutely blinding and will be only to pleased to answer any questions and give you tips, they really are worth using, see you there fella!!

Any advice on DL2 would also be welcomed as I only get to fish once a year so any tips help! Cheers

Yep, we all know fishing can go like that, in reality we aren't too fussed, it's just explaining it to the non fishers! Personally I was just happy earlier in the year not having to even think about work, but good fishing does make it that bit better.

Scotty best pegs were 12,16,17,18 and 23,24 slightly behind them. I was, still am, so disappointed as I got so many things sorted before hand that I normally forget. But hay ho that's fishing. I'm off some where different next year.

She's dead m8 ,,when I went last year the bailiffs were saying they think she got snagged up on something and died cos she hadn't gone belly up,been about two years since she came out, there's still loads of massive fish there be another 80lber in one of the lakes if not more ,,on a lighter note I'm all ready for lake 2 tomorrow just looking forward to getting on that coach

Wayne - hope you do better than me. I couldn't buy a take ! A big fat blank but to be expected as it wasn't my best trip ever to France. Great at the lake with Mat and the team. Amazing steak and mushroom pie just amazing. Out of 18 one other blanked. About 6 had one carp each. Top rod had14 to 56lb a common. 3 others had 50s

Hi guys back from dl1 yesterday
As most thought coming out first in the draw I would go into snags (I did)
Started off a slow week as the fish had moved out into the other arm
As of Tuesday at 2pm I'm still waiting. For my first carp
The wind was still pumping down my arm but I thought I would still stick to my plan
bait my spots that I thought would produce a bite or two
Well it payed off by tea I had had my first two carp a 43 mirror and a 47 common
With the weather starting to change over the next day it produced more and more fish
In the end I managed 10x 20s 3x 30s 4x40s and the last fish was 50
What a week
Can't wait to do it all again next year now.

Hi Folks,

A quick report from me.

Was on DL4 for a week then moved onto DL5 for a week. Starting last week in August ending two weeks later.

Did 19 fish in DL4 swim 5. It was fishing a bit tricky and the biggest was just under 38lb mirror. Had a few doubles as well. OK first week.

Moved over to DL5 on the friday afternoon (I was first in the draw for DL5 and was therefore allowed to move on the friday afternoon as the lads on there were packing up) and it just kicked off in style. Ended up on 49 for the week including 3x 40s. I also lost a mega cat. Fished Swim 1. Lost a truck load of fish due to hook pulls and diverse reasons but also landed a truck load. Double hook ups while spombing out etc..

As usual, I had a great time, the food was great, everything is well organised and I experianced what can only be described as mental fishing on the second week. A couple of those nights I literally did not get to sleep.

Saw three grass snakes, one lizzard, many herons and a few coypu. I also experienced a 7 hour electrical storm which was interesting.

Asd for tactics, I used size 2 or 4 Korda continental hooks blowback style on 20lb ntrap soft and semi/fixed leads on clips. Used a fishmeal boilie (JK Baits the beard, Dynamite Boilie chops and some cell) and got through a whopping 105kg of bait in the two weeks. Some of this bait was purchased from anglers pulling off on week 1. Not sure that I needed to use that much bait, but was trying to attact catfish which were a bit evasive this time.

All in all a great trip. The place is highly reccomended for those looking for carp on a well organised coach trip from essex or dover.

Kevin

Was on lake 1 this week, didn't come out so well in the draw so made it a bit more difficult from the off, I wouldn't say it fished great this week, but some nice fish came out and some people did have good numbers in the end. The fish spent pretty much the whole week in the Snags swim out to Cherries on that arm of the lake although on the Thursday they ventured out into the main bulk of the lake. If you can get the Snags side it always seems to be a winner.

Not sure where I am in the draw yet, for some reason that and tags not arrived, had to be re-posted so should find out early this week!

Reading swim guides there's plenty of decent areas all over the lake so should be good wherever you end up

I see the Venus fish came out a week ago at 66lb 8oz, would love to have seen that in my net. Still, plenty of fish to go for. Bit disappointed we came out 11/12th in the draw but we should find two swims next to each other, then we'll just have to work at it!

Hi guys me and my mate are going to give DL1 a go for the 1st time on the last week of August. We had a good look around it last year and it really looks like a big challenge. It's amazing how quick a year goes by and it's time to order the bait and start to think about all the bits and pieces you need to take! Hope Nibbler is on cooking duties as he doesn't half give you a good feed!
Have there been any issues so far with the ferry crossing?, I can't help thinking with the summer holidays kicking in there may be some fun and games to look forward too.

I go to lake 1 on the 27th of this month for the first time, I got 3rd and 4th in the draw, do I get to walk around the lake before making a choice of pegs, if not I was thinking either the snags and kingfisher or cherries and three steps, obviously two swims next door to each other!
Any other better pegs other than the ones with the fish in?
Any advice very welcome cheers??

Fished lake 3 once a few years back and came out first. We went in 16 and 14. Decent pegs. I was in 16 and got most my fish from my tree line margin rod. Our other mates were down in peg 10 area and did well. The majority of fish were infont of them all week and never moved. I was picking the odd fish up that was patrolling the tree line. All depends where the fish are. You can always move onto them.

Most of the complex is dominated by the Cell and it's the staple diet of the fish as 100s of kilos are pumped into the lakes each week. Over the years I've seen people do well on a variety of other baits, so just use whatever you have confidence in.

After all the waiting it looks to have been kind to you! We'll done. I will be on lake 2 at the end of the month, I just have one quick question, is the water really dominated by cell? Or are people catching on whatever they use?

Cheers

Wouldnt even bother deciding which swims you want now....wait till you get there , walk round talk to the leaving anglers and make your mind up from there. The fish move around so just because one area last week fished well the week before doesnt mean the'll still be in the same area. Im doing the bailiff help on lake 2 your week so if you come and have a chat on the way out ill give you a few pointers.
The best tip i can give you now is dont go mad with the bait early doors....your there for a week....build your swim as the days go by and youll be right

I would choose where the fish were last having it off..... Speak to the leaving anglers..... That said to get the most out of DL2 you should be mobile and move to where the fish start getting caught..... Plenty of swims to move into to achieve this.....but would only do this during the days and keep your kit where you started off at the beginning of the week to go back to should they end up back where they started.....

Last couple of weeks they have been holding down far end 14-20
however they can move overnight or slowly work their way down
Looks like there's 16 of us plus potential bailiffs that week
It helps if everyone spreads out then the fish tend to keep going round and everyone catches a few

Ring the dream lakes office you get the tags and your swim picking draw 2 weeks before you go also bear in mind they word the swim draw number wrong on the paper work it might say swim 6 that doesn't mean you are in swim 6 that means you are the 6th person to pick a swim

Just booked onto 1 at the end of August, let the countdown begin

How's the swim draw work regard intakes swims on lake one? Reading the swim guide it says on the west bar to cast to 22 wraps which is on the bar, but then you obviously have the beach swim casting straight onto this with not much effort. I am assuming they blank out certain swims depending on where people pick first?

If I remember back to 2006 correctly, we walked down to the coast in about 15 / 20 mins

The car park is where you leave your van and transfer gear to the coaches.

Thanks for the info, is the Relyon car-park where we transfer to the coach ? and where i leave my van for the week ?, and is it not next to the ferry terminal ???
Wasn't thinking we would need a cab for any reason - other than beer and chips !!!
Aiming to get to Dover for mid afternoon - leave the van, and go 'sightseeing' in the local boozer, then back to the van to transfer the gear to the trailer around 10-00pm ? and get my head down on the coach till we arrive....
we could be in Dover for 6-7 hours eagerly waiting for the coach to turn up - better early than late eh !!

Its as broad as it is long (bit like me !!) chelmsford or Dover, but probably a better run to Dover
and cant beat a bit of 'fresh' Fish and chips, out the paper on the beach whilst waiting - stink of vinegar all the way over

There's a cab firm that operates in the car park at Dover , USE IT , and book one for the way back .
Don't be late coz they won't wait, it's a fair old trek to the nearest boozer ,
Most peeps just buy beers from the offy down the road and sit in the car park .

Are you going over by coach from Dover ?
its our first time to France as well, so definitely counting down the days and cant wait...
driving to Dover mid afternoon, and find a decent bar with grub till the coach arrives, sounds
like a good way to pass the time !!

I fished DL3 at the end of August and everyone on the lake caught about 10 fish each! It's a great lake to have a go on, caught my 1st 50lb common, I was in peg 8! I've just looked at the new website and the bailiff report for the last few years has gone so that's a big shame you can't look back and see what people have caught over the years!

what are the chances of coming home having blanked ? Or am I going to be bored
by high teens and twenties all week - cos that will do me just fine !!!
Thanks....

Will be going on my own, so have been told availability for one angler is still good for all lakes in the months I am interested!

I have been before in 2006 on DL2, so I guess have unfinished business there! I know a lot has changed since then, at both the lakes and in my fishing ability!

Hello lardybutt

Going bait out there is the cell mainly.
Draw for swims are done by computer and you get allocated a number ,I.e 1st , 2nd , 3rd 4th ect so keep you're fingers crossed . You get you're no in the draw about 2weeks before you go.

Hope this helps

Have a look at there website , it's all on there
The bailiffs diary is well helpful too

4blocks per bag . Can get 10kg in each bag. Then when you get there just hang it in the trees. And air dry it

You can get talksport out there between 9pm and 9am , then it will fade away.
During the day , I listen to champagne fm , plays all English songs but they speak French.
It's at number 100 on the dial. Google it , you can have a listen here if you want

By the way DAB don't work out there , gotta be am,fm
Zen had a 72lb8oz common out of lake 1yesterday

must have. Ant powder, mozzie spray. And lip seal .
don't have to go mad with bait little an often is the way to go.
popups an plastic an foam for zigs. And don't worry if you not
had one buy Sunday, give it time an find your spots clip up
an stay on it the fish go up an down the lake so your not
always on them . Once your have fish of your spot
you will keep getting fish like I say little an often

hope that helps a little have a good one

No take as much bait as you want I normally take 30kg in 2 separate buckets plus my 8 items of luggage just put your name and lake number on the top of the buckets plus their is no weed in lake 4 just remember don't take any banned baits as the buckets are opened when unloading the trailers to check for banned baits

booked on lake 4 on may 9th are you really only allowed to take 10kg boilies with you or do people take more with them.
also are the lakes weedy do you know

as we want to get the bait from cc moore live range is that like the cell reason we want to get this is its alot cheaper than dream lakes boilies think its £625 for a 100kg back between me and my mate

we never been france before would that be enough

thanks in advance if you can give info

When I fished Lake 3 a couple of years ago, peg 4 was the most productive swim on Lake 4. There was an aerator about half way along the bank between pegs 4 and 5 which produced most of the fish.

Sorry to be a pain and ask more questions
Been studying previous years form on DL4 and looks like being in one of the end swims is the best bet. I have got to fish in the next swim to my son as he is only 13 so was wondering which of the other swims is usually best bet , I cant see much about pegs 6, 7 which would put the end pegs 5 & 8 out of the window. Also as it is only a small lake does the wind have much effect on the carp with pegs 1 & 8 being on the southerly wind. Is the gulley still the best bet or has it been done to death.

Any help is appreciated, as want to make it a trip to remember for my son

Are these lakes dominated by the cell boilies?
I am going in June and if they are I will start saving now to pay the £10+ a kg!

Hi

Just be aware that they are doing a targeted removal of catfish in the lakes.

As far as I understood when I was there in sept. This year, the 130lb cat in dl4 was removed from the complex. They had been placing out nets in all lakes as far as I gathered to put cats in so that once captured they could be removed from the complex. Still a number of cats in there, but they are disappearing. Dl5 has more cats than the other lakes but also there they are removing them. I never got a full handle on the numbers removed and whether it would continue. I can understand them not wanting cats in lakes 1,2,3 to keep it focused on the carp, but don't quite see entirely why they would want to systematically remove cats from 4,5. I know a 100lb cat will most times do you over on carp gear, but in my opinion that's part of the challenge....

Anyway, hope they don't remove all of them and it's just a bit of a thinning to manage the population.

Thanks DL4 sounds really good . Seen it did 130lb cat earlier in the year on the catch reports. You certainly had a good week there on your family trip great write up.

There are 50lb plus carp in DL4 and there used to be a fair number of cats. On one of our early trips , one of my sons friends wanted a cat, we filled in an area with pellet (banned now) and he had 3 in an evening best was 42,44 & 46, he then hooked one that took him all round the lake till the hook bent and lost it. I have had them up to 54 on carp gear and lost bigger ones. I would say 4 is a better a better prospect than 5 but it did have a cat around 90-100lb that comes out most weeks.

Cheers will have closer look at DL4 we had thought about DL5 as one of my life ambitions is a 100lb cat. Another worrying point about DL2 was if he got a big fish kiting that it would take out nearby anglers. Would you think 4 is the easiest lake then as know he might get bored if we are not getting many runs (techno age short attention span lol) What is the biggest carp in DL4

Hi Garry, Haven't been for a few years now but I did several family trips to DL4 and it is probably the best lake for you and your lad. Have a look at the 'Brooks' family trips on the website for our experiences. The is a small facilities block on the 1-4 swim side which helps. Corner swims make life easy as long as no-one is opposite. Swims 1 then 8 would be my preference but all will produce (its only a small lake). By the way I have fished all the lakes, 4 would be my choice if I was taking a 13 year old. Best of luck. Cliff.

I wont claim to be an expert, but i have understood that dl4 is the closest to a Runs water as you will get on the complex.

It's also the smallest thus shortest cast no matter where you fish.

Hi Guys
I've been out to DL1 couple of times in the past and done ok but looking to take my 13yr son in July we will be in one swim as he isn't a hardened carper and I just want to offer him the best chance to catch a few. With the opportunity to cast/fish himself sub 70yrds. The office recommend DL2 what are your opinions on best lake for us. We also wouldn't mind the odd cat in with the carp. Going to take mix of Cell and Malarkey 15kg of each.

thanks. 29 fish is a great catch, i found that the larger fish came in waves, one night i had 9 fish after tea before putting the rods away and they were all 20's or doubles. the night i had the 58 i had 5 fish 2 x 40 the big one a 30 and only one 20. all on one rod.

a great trip but i have come home absolutely shattered!

Hi Mate,

That sounds like a truly Incredible trip and certainly one for you and your son to remember forever! Absolutely amazing!

Although I took 29 Fish in my trip ending 3rd October, half of them were doubles and only 3x 30s.... Bit unlucky I ended up catching all the doubles in the lake Still I was happy so no complaints!

Looking back at the Catch records the lake seems to do one good week and then one poor week. The 4 dudes in the week before you appeared to have 19 Fish between them by the Friday mid-day reporting....

i got back from lake four with my 10 year old son, we had lake four to ourselves so set up in peg four (3 rods between us). i spread the rods around the lake fishing cell and northern specials.

we had fish from the off, and had 2 triple takes and one double take, managing to land all of the triple take fish!!

i tended to bring the rods in at around midnight as reuben needed his sleep, and put them out again about 7 in the morning.

we ended up with:

a new lake record (i think) 58lb 6 oz mirror, which is also a PB mirror for me.

48lb common
42lb
41lb
2 x 401/2lb

26 x 30's
25 x 20's (including 3 x doubles)

56 fish in total, and we arrived sat afternoon and left friday morning and didn't fish nights! i reckon if i had fished it hard on my own without my son i could easily have done 100 plus fish. my son landed 70% of the fish himself.

it was a great week with some great anglers and as usual great food and staff!

to add to the fun we had a tyre blow out on the a26 on the way home yesterday! changing it with lorrys hurtling past was an experience!

Same to you Antony. Say hello to Pete for me also.

Just checked my notes, 21 of the 29 fish came to the left hand rod - so it's clear that it was all about location that week. The fish were obviously hiding under the bushes there for some reason.

Cheers,

Kevin

Hi,

Well a short report from me DL4 ending yesterday. My first time.

The entire complex fished quite hard for the week I was there. Strange as it was mild and stable, but others indicated it needed a bit of wind and rain and low pressure to kick it off.

I ended up in swim 5 on DL4, was happy with that. Rods where already set up so I got them out quick with PVA bags, 10 inch hook links, nash size 4 fang x hooks fished blow back style. One of rods was on coated braid, size 2 continental hook. Standard lead clip systems, no leaders etc. Used snow man using JK Baits the beard which is fishmeal 18mm and 15mm combination, or cell 18mm wafter on one rod.

30 minutes after chucking out I had a 27,10 on the left rod and was over the moon. Newbie nerves settled immediately! Ended up with 29 fish in total and as far as I could see was top rod for the entire complex. Not bad for probably the most unexperianced carp angler on there...! Still, it was more due to LUCK as it was clear to me that there was a lot of fish hiding in the bushes to my left, and probably 18 or so of those fish came to my left hand rod alone which made the difference to the others on the lake. So it was luck that I was last on the draw and went in there...... Still, nice to have some luck now and then!!!!!!

Biggest fish was 39,8 and 39,2 commons, 35,12 mirror, 24,8 grass carp, and 26,8 catfish. Bit dissapointed that I did not land a 40 after that number of fish, and had probably about 10 fish as doubles which I was not expecting to see too many of. Still, over the moon!

I lost a big catfish on the first night which gave me the hump. Hooked it on a size 2 continental hook and coated braid using a fishmeal snow/man more or less intended for them so was happy when it picked it up, slapped its large tail on the surface and started to move.... But thats when the problems started, it kited slowly to my left and before I really twigged what it was up to, it was close to some snag and despite pulling like a mad man it finally made the snags and well game over.... Got done over again like this on the last night just to remind me that catfishing with 2,75tc rods is high risk fishing if there are snags in the lake. Frustrating as I really wanted a big cat more than a carp.

Used over 30kg of bait, much of it ground up and spodded out as crumb or halves laced with krill juice. About 13kg cell, 8kg dynamite boilie chops split half and half between sweet and fishmeal, and then 12kg of JK baits the beard fishmeals. Used a fait bit of cell stick mix liquid and some pineapple liquid from mainline and 2L krill juice from JK baits. Certainly the PVA bags with crumb and juice of one form of the other helped bites. I baited little and often, spodding 2am to keep it topped up for example.

As for food, facilities, and the entire package, I give it a decent 9 out of 10. The only reason it does not score a 10 out of 10 is because I lost the big catfish and still have the hump . Just joking of course!

Seriously though, I highly recommend to others considering this sort of trip. I have a trip booked on 5 with a mate in April 2015, and will already rebook lake 5 again in Sept 2015. Just for the record, the people working there where really friendly ad helpful. Its a professionally run outfit and I will be a repeat customer. Very often when I come to UK I get the feeling like a shop owner or someone running a business is doing you the favor somehow when you ask for something. Not here, they are helpful and very friendly. They are on first name terms with all customers which is a nice personal touch.

I asked a fair few questions before I went, some I got replies to, others not. Here are a few things.

Did not see a rat
Did not see a snake which I am seriously happy about
Truck load of spiders everwhere, one bloke on my lake got bitten and reacted to it
No one walking around hassling you, felt very safe and peaceful inside those fences
Fish were often feeding around breakfast and dinner time which was a bit frustrating
Fish in my corner of the lake absolutely responded to catapulting in a few boilies or spodding a couple of small spods now and then. I had rods out there many times with no activity, chucked in a few boilies, got a couple of liners then got a run. This happened quite a few times hence spodding in middle of night also.
Snaggy in margins around swim 5.
I was happy eating those two meals per day plus a packet of crips or biscuits at night
Location is probably the primary key to success, but then again all carpers know that

As Arnie has said one or twice, Ill be back

Got back a week ago from DL1 and had a great trip. Caught 18 in the end including 3 40's and beat my French PB so well happy.

The food as ever was too much to handle (in a good way) and despite a fairly tough week on DL1 all the lads caught - you just had to work harder for the rewards...

I do have some tips for those thinking of heading out there.

1. Don't forget any items of end tackle and make sure you have enough to last you the week - the prices in the onsite shop are eyewatering.

2. I would say you need a minimum of 20kg of bait and if they are having it even 30kg is not excessive. You can get bait onsite but its not cheap

3. If you are joining the coach at Dover make sure you get there before the time stated in your paperwork. I suggest you get there by 9 at the very latest as the drivers always want to try to get the 10pm ferry.

4. Dont forget to take a pillow onto the coach and earplugs are also useful for the journey down unless you want to listen to the conversations of the insomniacs on the coach!

Aha, I see - thanks for the quick response

Thankfully my Brother lives 20 minutes down the road from Bicnacre so we will aim to get there at 19:00 to 19:15 at the latest (there is no major traffic that time of the day).

My Journey starts 5pm tomorrow afternoon however. I first need to get to UK !

Bit of a stress having all the gear in UK and not being able to check things before the day I leave (got like 5 reels to spool up, batteries for alarms and torches to replace, rigs to tie, and some last minute shopping etc etc etc....), but I think (hope) I got all things planned/remembered and nothing unexpected turns up when I rummage in his garage Friday morning .

And one more really important thing..........

Does the Coach go from Bicnacre/Essex at 20:00 or 20:30 Friday as two documents on deamlakes web site gives two different times

(Just for the record, all my papers are in UK so maybe it states there but just incase)

1 yes take ant powder
2 yes take insect repellent
3 no they won't get upset if you have 15kg of bollies take as much as you think your need as it works out very expensive to buy it out their
4 breakfast is at 10am & dinner is at 5pm
5 just remember not to take any banned baits ie particles , maggot , pellets as they do check buckets on arrival

Hi folks.

Well it's my turn to say I am off to dream lakes this coming Friday. Well, leaving from Norway on Thursday to be more precise. Last on the draw on dl4. Am happy with that.

Couple of quick clarifying Qs.

1 do I Need to take ant powder?
2 do I need to take insect repellant?
3 will they get upset if I have 15 kg boilies with me instead of 10 in my luggage?
4 what time is breakfast and dinner each day?
5 any last minute dos and donts?

Cheers

Unfortunately I'm not traveling light at all!!

However I have been told by 2 people who have been before that you're allowed to just take a rod or two and fish from a different swim without having to pack up and move all your gear? Was thinking of setting up in a swim away from all the angling pressure and then during the day time just grabbing a couple of rods and fish from a different swim maybe closer to the fish?

Thanks again

Travel very light and move into swims where you see fish or where others are catching.......

May upset the anglers that you jump in between but it certainly brings the best results.......

Hi

Just a quick question regarding the food they sell in addition to the breakfast and dinner which I have understood are more than ample.

Does the shop sell sandwiches or pies and that sort of thing or do I have to take a weeks worth of lunch and snack stuff with me from uk? Do they sell fresh milk also?

Hi mate

Hmmm, interesting. The reason me and mate have booked dl5 in April is for the combination of cats and carp...... Not super impressed that they are removing the cats then.....

I was informed that cats captured in the other lakes were being moved to dl5 Maybe I have misunderstood

Oh well, am sure we will have a great time anyway

I noticed that the bailiffs diary over the last few weeks hasn't included lake 5. Is no one fishing it or is everyone blanking?!!!

Hi Kev,

There are a lot of cats in DL5 however when i was out there back in April they were putting out keep nets around each lake to remove the cats to ship them off to another lake (not on the DL complex) down the road so hopefully that will sort the problem. I'm back out there on the 22nd so i'll let you know if they are still doing it! :-)

Also the catch reports are filled in on Friday so any fish you catch Friday evening/night are not counted but it will still give you a good idea of what has come out from where!

Me and Bipin are ready to give DL3 ago for the 1st time this Friday. I can't **kin wait , just hope it's not too wet Friday night at Dover, after that it can piss down!

Hi Neil,

Thanks for that. It is as I suspected.

I dont see why they cant just publish all catfish Catch statistics more accurately on their web site just like the carp...

I am having a go at DL4 in Sept. and then DL5 in April, so I Guess I get to see both lakes in action and make my own mind up - you never know, maybe I will put a short report on here also

Cheers,

Kevin

I fished dl5 several years ago and had more cats than carp!!
Between 2 of us probably 50 plus cats including 3 over 100lb and a lot over 50lb
And nothing like the amount we caught was published on the web site??

Can you still hire them?
Do you have to arrange it and pay before you go or can you just turn up and pay?

Hi Folks,

Quick Q this time (maybe I get an answer also ).

Its regarding the catch statistics on the dream lakes web site. They appear to count the carp pretty well, and sometimes mention the catfish - especially if they are large. However, it appears that there might be underreporting, or perhaps even not Reporting of catfish in some/many cases. For example, they say that there is a lot more catfish in DL5 than the other lakes (indeed there is one report in this thread stating like 30 cats in a week for one or two persons which sounds like catfish texas), but thats not really reflected in the catch reports at all (just one or two cats per person per week in DL5)?

So what is the typical catfish Catch rate in DL5 in 2013 or 2014? Are we talking like catching as many cats as carp, less or more?

I am just as interested in catching catfish as well as carp, and would like this info. to help me decide DL4 or DL5 (generally Catch rates look higher in DL4 than DL5, but thats before they add on the numbers of unreported catfish?????).

Regards,

Kevin

Been a while since I last went but found having 6 on lake 3 was perfect.

Fishing pegs 2, 4, 7, 8, 14 & 16 gave us loads of room = loads of fish.

Bonjour. Kevin. Let's start with 1 its 130 euros for 10 k.
You can buy 5 k at a time can't always stick it in the frezza as don't always have the room
as can be over 50 ppl fishing at dream lakes each week.
So that's lots of bait an if everyone wants to keep if frozen
that's a lot of fridges?.

As for cats in 4 yes you will get them on fishmeal bait so if you want them take it, me I would not go with it, get yourself the cell or the hybrid.
you can buy popups an dips but will cost more. Than if you take your own
Not sure on shelf life bait as the office. An as for swim Fishing left or right yes as long as your not in someone els water so to speak.

Hope that helps a bit. Loads of love from Sid

Hi again folks

Seems like a question with more than one line goes unreplied on here

I try again.

On Google i have Measured dl4 to be about 120m wide so obviously no chance of me fishing far margin on standard bait runner reels. So that q is answered. About 140 long just for the record.

1. What is the price of buying cell at the lakes? Someone must know this. It's 95 quid in advance but if I go empty how much is it there? If you pre-buy from them, can you pick up some of the bait at start of week then rest later in the week? I am thinking of avoiding having to air-dry.

2. Do they stock plenty of pop ups and dips incase I go empty?

3. Do they have a freezer I can use for bait I take with me or do I have to air- dry? This is an important part of my preparation as I have decided I will take fishmeals with me.

4. How many cats are floating about in dl4? Is it realistic to hook a few if I use fishmeals or is it something that just turns up now and again? The online catch reports don't appear to list up catfish in a consequent manner so it's difficult for me to tell.

5. Is it allowed to use shelf life boilies, and if I were to pre-crush some boilies into chops or crumb before I go, will this be something the bailifs get upset about as they won't be able to tell if its crushed boilies contra ground bait. Should I wait with that until I get there?

6. Finally, if I fish say swims 5-8 is it possible for me to fish left and right rods along that banks margin ( working on the basis that the rest of the group are fishing swims 1-4 on the other bank). Or are there trees poking out further than the swims so I can't cast sideways along my own bank?

Thanks for any feedback in advance.

If anyone has some pictures of this lake to share it would be great. Pictures on web site are not great and although I have trolled you tube and internet for all videos and pictures I could get, I still can't work out what the margins look like around the lake and whether it's possible to fish a rod left and right of you own swim or whether overhanging tres etc block that.

Kevin

yes you can spod out at dreamlakes it's bollies only and plastic baits that are allowed no particles or pellets are allowed buckets are checked on arrival so don't try and take any banned baits as they will be taken of you and kept till you go home

Hi folks

Well I went ahead and booked my to trip - Dl4 on 27 sept. There was already three booked On that lake so fingers crossed their a decent bunch of blokes and I will manage to fit in.

Anyway, I would like to take some bait with me as well as play it safe on one of the lakes own baits.

So my questions.

1. Which of the baits should I get from them in advance? the cell, hybrid or their cell cream specials? What about if I go empty for bait. Everyone says they are expensive to buy without pre- order, but what is the price of 10kg og boilie over there that's not preordered?

2. What about pop ups for making snow-man? Should i take all pop ups and plastic corn with me or does the shop stock allpop ups I need at sensible prices?

3. I was thinking of taking a fish meal I have confidence in from uk as an alternative. Bad idea or go for it? Would a 14mm bait be too small? Was thinking of something a bit different to the usual baits most people use.

4. It's unclear to me whether there are any cats to speak of in dl4 or not. Is there a real chance of hooking a couple of cats or have they all been stuffed inn dl5?

5. What is the casting distance from one bank to the other side? Anyone measured it? Realistic to fish to the opposite margin from the one bank if all anglers camp on the one side or is it a bit far?

6. If I were to be the only one on the far bank, is it possible for me to sling the right and left rods along my own margins or are there trees in the way preventing me fishing say 30 meters to my left and right margins?

7. Any other tips?

Interested in a PM if anyone has specific tips or extra info. That they don't want to put on the open forum.

Best regards and thanks for the help folks.

Kevin

Just got back yesterday from dl1 I fished snags only had 5 fish to 45.5 it was really slow out of are group there was 5 of us 3 didn't catch for the first 4 days I think they were still spawning until mon I think there was a few people who only caught 1. However my little bro had 15 fish to 41lbs my cousin had a lovely 48lb common there wasn't any huge hauls my bro was top rod I think anyway we all loved it and can't wait to go back I'm fishing dl3 in August and counting the days as is my little boy who comes with me on every trip. The lads out there were superb as usual so no complaints from here

If you are wanting a few cats I would go for Lake 5.......
A couple of years ago 2 of us fished it and had over 50 cats between us 3 over 100lb and about 20 over 50lb....
Had a few carp as well and no need to cast more than 70 yards....

Cheers for the replies folks,

Well DL4 looks like the most sensible option for me then - which is what I was suspecting.

Still waiting for confirmation for exactly what dates are available for this specific lake and then its make up mind time.

Kevin

alright kevin

i would go for dl4 as its my faveourite but dont be put off by lakes 1 and 2 as you dont have
to fish at 100yds .most of my fishing is done at catapult range , 30-40 yds as im lazy .
some vey big fish are caught on lake1 from the beech swim at a max of 30 yds.

ive been to the lakes 13 times now , probbably 5 of these on my own as i dont have many friends
and you will not be pushed into any **** swims as there arent any so dont worry about that.

as for snakes ,in all my trips out ive only seen two and there only grass snakes anyway

cheers ralph

Hi Kevin, I have been many times to the lakes although not since 2010. If your not into casting then probably don't go on Dreamlake 1 or 2. I would suggest dream lake 4 would be best for a first timer as you can guarantee getting a corner swim (only 4 anglers allowed) and I know from experience 70 yards or less is all that's required. I would go for swim 8 or 1 as these get less disruption from lake 3 or 5. Lake 3 or 5 would also be ok as they are not as big as 1 and 2. You will get a swim draw number a couple of weeks before you go, so there's no 'stitch-up' although if several anglers book together they tend to get a sequential draw number. Hope this helps you make a decision. Regards Cliff

Hi Folks,

I am looking to book a trip for myself on one of the lakes this Sept. or early Oct. (I have been in contact with them, there are slots available for most of the lakes in this period as I am coming alone).

I am mostly up for some action (i.e., want some runs...), big fish just a bonus certainly not required. The odd catfish would be a bonus also. Preferably want to Fish short range/margins, am not geared up for anything over 70 yards and prefer much Shorter distances. With those general facts in mind:

Q1.
Is DL4 or 5 the one for me to go for? I want the best chance of action, bonus if a cat picks up a bait.

Q2.
Has anyone ever been to this place as a "single angler"? Is it a nightmare where you end up getting pushed into the poor pegs due to others aggregating together on the best spots, or is it so well organised this is not going to be an issue for me?

Q3.
Are there many snakes around.....?

Kevin

I'm going to ring the office tomorrow but can anyone answer my question please.

Normally we book well in advance but this year we have had to leave it late due to other commitments. If we book for say 12 weeks time in say August how much deposit do we need to pay and how long do you get until final payment is due.

Thanks.

Hi Steve,
I only had 5 50's and a 60 - one of the 40's went 49.12 so very close.
The venue as a whole is fishing well but the temperatures are on the up and given that the fish's were milting in the net it wont be long now before they start to spawn.
Have a great trip and tight-lines
Gareth

Spoke to one of the bailiffs yesterday, an angler on lake2 caught a 60 and 6 50s last week! All the fish are beginning to group up spawning very likely early this week with the weather forecast for the next few days.

Hi rob hope you have a great week I take it it's your first time out there? Your are first in the draw on lake one which means you have first pick of all the swims. You will not be in peg 1 as lake one are all names swims fingers crossed with the spawning hope you'll have a fantastic week can't wait to get back out there.

bank sticks will go in mate ,about a foot back from the edge of the swim .
ones with the auger points work well. i allways put one either side of the swim and one on the top.
most people use the korda safezone leaders , the clear ones

Me and my mate are taking 60/70k of bait with us between us, as said already, you can always bring some back but you really dont want to run out if they are on the munch

Hope they will be mid April

One of my favourite times to go

Nope it ain't strictly enforced the drivers don't count how many bits of luggage you have or weigh it they would be their all night if they did . I've taken in the past 30kg of bait in 3 bait buckets plus 8 item of luggage .Just make sure you don't take any banned baits ie any form of particles as the bailiffs do open up the buckets when unloading the trailers to check what's in them if anything that is banned Is found they keep hold of the buckets till you go home .

That was the other thing (thanks for reminding me) it mentions a max (although a bit vaguely) of 10kg of bait in the trailer, on the website. Is that usually strictly enforced or is taking 20kg usually ok?

I'd say take 20kg minimum each as you don't want to be buying bait out their as it works out a lot more expensive in euro's at the lakes ie prices are as follows €65 for 5kg & €130 for 10kg

It looks like me and my mate are on DL1 for the first time in October. What would be your expectation for the amount of bait we are likely to get through? I know it can vary with conditions etc but I just want to get some sort of idea. Cheers

Looking to going out to dream lakes September 2015 be the first time going to this venue
which is the preferred lake that anglers seem to go on. Those that have been would you take markers and spods.
