UPDATE: Told ya! Is this a seminal moment or are England still only half way round the corner?

Well done, England, and Moeen, despite that beard!

Not long now! Should be over before lunch...This is a different England we are seeing. Complete turn around in attitude and application.

BUT...One win (or even a series win) against a fledgling Indian team must not make them over confident. The elephant in the room (Aussies in 2015) cannot be ignored.

That's better, Alistair! Shame you didn't make your ton but it's a start!

Looks like a doddle of a wicket, though!

cook is an excellent cricketer , he just can't handle the pressure of being a captain .
dont forget were talking about a player with 26 or 27 test centurys at his age which
is some going .
remember when tendulkar was appointed captain back in the mid 1990's i i think , his game fell apart and there was all the talk about sacking him, he done the decent thing and stepped down so he could
just concentrate on his own game , especially his batting............ and the the rest as they say is history

could bring back rob key

Could do a lot worse IMO. Now back as Kent captain and a reliable if unspectacular opener or number 4. A captain in the Andrew Strauss mold and now coming up for 18,000 1st class runs.

Actually, why not bring back Micheal Vaughan or even Mike Brearley, even if he is even older than I am. Either of them could still perform better than Cook...Come to think of it, I could do a better job than Cook.

Good to see Jordan and Woakes in the squad, with Buttler in for Prior, but the old guard still remains resolutely in place. However, Southampton must surely be the Last Chance Saloon for them?

root will be a future captain , but i think its a bit to early for him yet.
this england team is so out of form there isn't anyone thats captain material
left in it , so where do we go if cook does go ?
could bring back rob key

I think if they really are serious about re building the team.
Cook needs to go.
The next few tests will just confirm this with more losses!

He needs to go!!
I cannot see a England side under him beating the Ausies next year.

And a few of the old players should follow.
If you want to build a new team best do it properly.

We're bloody terrible!
I said from the start of the ashes down under (which I was unfortunately there for ) they'd thrash us 5-0..
We are in no way intimidating in the field or at crease (perhaps with the exception of root), look at how India and Australia had us surrounded for the off, chirping away and bowling a sensible balance of short and good length.
Stokes and Cook to go for me. What's happened to Jordan? He had a bit of spunk about him with the bat and ball, he genuinely wanted to win games and didn't punch any lockers in frustration.
Buttler has been named in place of prior and I look forward to seeing him swing the bat a bit.
I'd like to see KP back in the team and Cook **** off back to his in laws farm.
The selectors need sorting out too, Stokes' recent form suggests he's not the same player that scored a century at the waca, in taming his attitude they've taken the edge away that made him the player he was.
Anderson....... Well he should've just decked jadeja and earned a well earned rest from test cricket

A few months on and STILL not won a test since last summer v the Aussies. Anybody like to express an opinion about this current England side?

So KP was the disruptive influence in the dressing room during the winter, yes? So they get rid of him, appoint Peter Moore (who incidentally was handed a poisoned chalice by Flower) and is the dressing room all sweetness and light now? Is it ****! Yesterdays display against Ishant was just a foretaste of what is to come when the Aussies and MJ visit in 2015, and will the same 'old guard' of Cook, Bell, Anderson and Broad be able to fare any better than they did down under? Not if this current fiasco is anything to go by.

So...

1. Cook and Anderson out. They are too close off the pitch, which is not good when they are out in the middle. The clique of Cook, Swan, Prior and Anderson was behind the dismissal of KP, I am sure of that.
2. Moores out. What has he ever done at this level? Wasn't all that wonderful at Lancashire.
3. Bring Back KP.
4. Pinch Duncan Fletcher back off the Indians. He can't be as a bad a coach as they all said: Look what he has done for India!
5. Jos Butler in for Prior who has already said he is packing it in for the moment.
6. Find a decent spinner and get rid of the beard, Ali. Looks ridiculous!
7. Keep the 'new intake' They have been (mostly) performing well but we need at least one more quick, nasty, intimidating bowler to partner Plunkett (and get him a decent bowling coach! That final delivery stride looks so wrong).
8. Appoint a non-public schoolboy captain...anybody but Cook. Maybe Root could do the job?
9. Get rid of the current board of selectors and give people like Botham a place on it along with other 'rebels' from the recent past.
10. Finally get the team a good sports psychiatrist.

Anything else I have missed!

Gooch gone as well now...

Think is, just watch all those limp failures from the winter series suddenly transform themselves into heroes this moth against Sri Lanka.

Like to see Robson open with Cooke, Root at 3 and Bell at 4. Rest of the line up is going to be a bit hit and miss I think.

Bowlers? Can Finn come back? Is Bresnan as good as everyone seems to think he is. Tredwell wasn't even given a chance down under and no decent spinner in sight at the moment.

Yes, the team will win matches this year but with Australia now in the Number 1 spot in the rankings, 2015 will be very interesting!

I love watching kp on form destroying bowlers, but he hasn't done that for England for a long time.

Hopefully I'll see him at his best at the oval this year, I'm not a great fan of t20 but a Friday night at the oval is good fun.

On moores, he's done pretty well at county level, and let's face it, England can't get much worse than they've been this past 8 months
