In reply to Post #298 Can we send Roy denly and bairstow for a night out with Warner? Sibley pope and foakes as concussion subs would be handy

Useless bunch of tossers.

I thought we'd blown it when Warner and Labuschagne were making hay but Archer was brilliant. Now all we have to do is bat for two days to give the lad some rest!
Sad to say, I think when Smith returns he and Labuschagne will be a devastating pairing. I don't know who would make was for Marnus but it is likely to be Head or Wade, or Lyon if they don't fancy a spinner.at Old Trafford.
TBH I cannot see us regaining the Ashes in this series.

In reply to Post #294 We should call him and his stick back up as an all rounder

In reply to Post #294 Doh
I thought it was a ploy to keep root at the top of the county averages, Surrey declaring with pope 5 runs away then sending him oop North in case they had a late chase on

In reply to Post #293 Roy got tinned by Trescothick in the nets with the dog stick. Should be fine apparently.

In reply to Post #291 The situation was similar to the spot fixing scandal to me, the young, inexperienced, impressionable party getting a second chance I can accept, agree or no.
The senior figures in the team who coerced others to cheat should be banished, as a warning to others.
Salman butt must be aggrieved that Smith was welcomed back so quickly.
This series came too soon for some bright talents, next summer will see dom sibley opening with burns, ollie pope at 4 and a refreshed root at three enjoying life under captain stokes. I think if sibley had got a score for Warwickshire this week he would have been in tomorrow's line up with Roy at 4 and denly missing out. surrey put Curran at three hoping he'd get a score and force his way in but it didn't happen unfortunately
On bairstow, I find him so frustrating, so often getting out for single digits, punctuated by match winning innings of great quality. Ben foakes must be pretty down about being dropped, having a higher batting average over the past year as well as being the best keeper we have by far.

Just seen ollie pope has been drafted as cover for Roy on the back of his 220*, does that mean Roy has picked up a knock?

I agree with Topgun. Smith, Warner and Bancroft should not be allowed to play representative cricket ever again.
The Ashes is now a different ball game. Who on earth wants to face Archer if he can destroy Smith who was on 80 n.o. and had been at the crease for four hours? Archer scares the **** out of them...not a big surprise! I can see us winning the next three tests and regaining the Ashes.
I still think Root should revert to number four and maybe shift Stokes to number three. Curran should play as a forth seamer. Bairstow has earned a reprieve, as has Butler but I think Roy's confidence is shot. If only we could find another decent opener then there would be a space for Roy at 5 or 6.
The only problem I can see is Root succumbing to the temptation to over-bowl Archer.
I shall be glued to the radio come Thursday at 11.00 am

The Fact is !!! 3 of the Australian team should never have been allowed to play first class cricket again. They were cheats and disgraced the game. Australia over the years have had some great cricketers in there ranks, the likes of Ricky Ponting who was one of the best captains and batsmen in world cricket for a number of years, plus numerous others who represented Australia ! I wonder how a top Australian like Ponting views this. Lets hope Archer rattles them in the remaining tests in the series, but we also need to learn how to play the 5 day game as its a different mind set for the batsman. As Boycott once said, in test cricket you win the toss and bat for 4 days, you don't get beat playing like that. His meaning was to bat for as long as possible so you have a chance of bowling out the opposition twice on a wearing wicket. lets hope the final Tests are played in good spirit with Cricket being the winner at the end ! (England hopefully with any luck).
