You dont have to keep changing rods, you can use the spod rod as a marker too, as advised before in one of your many other marker / spod posts.

You've got a spod reel and you're asking if it's ok to use for spodding. But you've got 50 to spend on a spod reel!!??

Mitchell AvoSpod from Eric's. 29.99, 2 year warranty and well received among a lot of people here. Don't own one myself, but will be buying one shortly as a marker reel.
