As pretty much with all club waters, it deppends on if you will be doing weekends or midweek. Airman can be packed most weekends with fair weather, but then there are the other waters to go to if there is no room.

thanks for the advice guys.

By the sounds of it its now between luton and shefford...... have been part of luton before but didn't really fish it that much because I was at school but I kind of like the idea of having steppingley which from all accounts is a relatively easy water but then north house as well for a crack at catching a bigun.

What's the airman like mate? and are any of sheffords other lakes any good?

i agree with brinx, if i was going to join a water trying to catch a 20 it would be the airman, stunners in there mate.

Beckerings is your best bet for the area, an easy water with a high catch rate. Good head of 20's..
the only issue could be the water levels this year, if the drought continues beckerings will be the worst hit in bedfordshire.......

I'm fishing Marston at the moment - i had my first carp of the season (12lb) and lost one there last weekend - cut off by an underwater snag. I don't think anyone else had a run over the weekend and as far as i'm aware only a handful of other carp have been caught there this season.

It's not an easy lake - i think i managed 30+ blank nights there last year, I only caught on my first 4 day session there, i had 4 runs and lost 3, landing an 11lb common. Other than that i had a few lost fish in snags/weed.

The weed in there is evil - it's like nothing I've ever seen before! It makes feature finding and rig presentation very challenging. And the underwater trees are all over the place making it quite interesting landing fish.

However there are 20lb+ carp in there and if you're feeling brave they are there for the catching - I've seen carp caught all over the lake, its just presentation and location that are the hard parts.

I believe some of the other lakes on that ticket will contain 20lb+ carp as well, but i'm not sure because I've only fished Marston.

If Luton ticket is also an option i would suggest that their lakes may well be a better option for trying to get your first 20lb fish any time soon.

Join Shefford and District AC and fish the Airman.

Good chance of a 20 and it'll be a nice dark 20 too.

not looking too hopeful then haha. I was undecided between joining ampthill or luton (mainly for beckerings ressy) and thought I would do a bit of research before joining as I am desperate to break the 20lb mark having tried for years without success!!

Thanks for the advice

Chances of a 20 at brogbrough are very slim, a HUGE water with a very small head of carp.. massive schools of rudd are the dominant fish.... has been know for carpers to blank for seasons!
Marston is a moderate water... there are 20's in there, but tend to be localised, normally the best 2-3 swims are taken, and most bait gets mopped up by the bird life.........

Hi all,
Looking to join ampthill AC next season and was wondering what my chances were of a 20 at Marton Pit or Brogborough Lake is. I'm used to fishing day tickets with fast and furious action such as Castle Ashby and Clifton Farm lakes in Rugby, but I have recently been trying to get at the bigger carp in Castle Ashby and beat my Pb not long ago which is now at 18lb 6.

So yeah the question is what are my chances of a new PB and are the waters particularly difficult to catch on??

Many Thanks
Karl
