Due to the amount of tackle being stolen at the moment, has it come to the time where a specific thread (stickied perhaps) in the General Carp Discussion section be created?
This thread would then be a single reference point for those unfortunate anglers to post concerning their loss, but also for ways of protecting our tackle and the various sites etc there are to help find it.

Hey there, unfortunately came across this thread looking see how I can get the word out on my fishing gear that was stolen last week on Friday morning.

I live in higham, Kent mostly fish at darenth lakes with my fiancè.

The gear I actually have photos of, the box seat I have was my dads and was his when he used to take me and my brother fishing when we were really young.

Has a bit of white paint splashed on the red seat, plastic is black and I think the make of it is Maverick or beginning with a M and is blue in writing, and the buckle or metal parts are all rusted, and the inside lid is wooden. The lid is actually broken, so can only be opened back to front. The strap actually acts as the hinges. Hardly worth taking but it does has memories.

As I said I've got pictures of my gear. I had 3 reels stolen, and 2, 2 piece rods. Both had 2 of the 3 reels on them. One rod was a silver quantum rod, and the other was a cheap black and brown rod I bought from a sea fishing shop so has a fish pictured just above the handle. Both have reels on them. I actually have a blue version of the brown rod so that could be used as a reference in a picture. The rods were still rigged up, with fself weighted see through floats on the line, with very small shots and hooks.

Had 2x 2 pint bait boxes both green, one has a red maggot dye stained lid, and 1 black and orange 1 pint bait box, 1x small blue bait box with like the old fishing mag on the lid I think tackle times or something like that, I actually stored shots in there. Also 2 reels of line, one still unopened and one opened. Had some small line in there which as bright green line and camo line. Had a white and yellow tackle box also old and very squeaky when opening it, has a crack on the see through lid, this was in the seat too filled with various sized floats, shots and hooks, de-hooker equipment. Had some other stuff like a brown catapult, some self made rod rests, and folded up un-hooking green mat. Also had my fold away and adjustable green net taken too.

Unfortunately, they also helped themselves to my dads and France's tools too... So we're all super unhappy at the moment. Also prevent my dad from finishing his job off, as he had his transformer and welder stolen.

Very disappointed in this, and please do keep a look out. Many thanks

Hi Andy and all forum members.

Just thought I'd bring this forward as I would still appreciate finding and meeting the culprits who nicked my gear, some of it relatively unique or exclusive. Any help or information, in assisting, will be rightly rewarded accordingly. Total confidence can be assured. Cheers. Deep

tip for tracking stuff that gets stolen

invest in a couple of battery powered motorbike trackers if you leave them in rod bag bivvy tackle bags etc it could help if anything does go missing

most of them have around 30 day battery life. may be worth considering.

It is with great sadness that I list my stolen tackle items which I have painstakingly built over 25 years of carp angling. The items were stolen from my garage in Greenwich on the night of Sunday 4th Jan. Last used at St. John’s on the Linear complex on 30th Dec. I literally told my mate while lakeside that I’d finally completed my tackle set and all I needed now was The Box Common!!! Double let-down (one anticipated, one not). A few hours before the break-in, I had been down Hampstead Heath ponds dishing out 5 kilos of boiley I no longer had room for in my freezer. How’s that for karma!

If you do come across any of the items listed please do let me know. I’m happy to offer a reward for return of any of the items. Message me for the reward or just call the fuzz. Greenwich police are handling the investigation (just dial 101)

Tackle:
Nick Buss custom rods (3.5lb 13ft) x 3 (in JRC padded sleeves - no cloth sleeve) NB engraved stainless butt-caps, 50mm butt rings
Greys 12.5ft spod rod + Diawa spod reel
Sonix SK4 (3lb 12ft) x 3 (in Chub sleeves - no cloth sleeve - one of the rods has a faded top section and is 2.75lb test curve as apposed to 3lb)
Andy Little 1.75lb carp rods x 2, one is broken at the tip
Fox 1200XT reels (3 x spools loaded with tapered Subline and 3 with light green distance casting line)
Delkim TXI Plus buzzers/ pager (red, amber, green)
Custom bobbins (using stainless bike/ link chain - red amber green with isotopes and black plastic case with foam inner)
Diawa Infinity pod + stainless stage stands (old school John Roberts butt-clips) couple of the stainless bolts are missing

Fox Flatliner Bedchair
Fox Ven-Tec all seasons bag (smells a bit of damp dog)
Trakker Armo Mark II + overwrap (bivvy has a small tear on front pegging point and some red Goo stains plus 1 broken elastic section and they left the optional poles behind)

Chub quiver holdall
Green rucksack - box shape with the card boxes for the Fox reels in
Nash Cybershot throwing stick
Reuben Heaton 60lb scales
Barrow handles (they left the barrow?)
Barrow bag - quite stained with much of the inner fabric worn away

End tackle (lots of) tackle box has some stickers on it (Ninja Tune/ a mag title with a pike logo and an album title “F**k Birds in the Bushes)
Full Jag sharpening set
Reuben Heaton thermometer
Korda crimpers plus full needle set
Solar steaming cone
Old school rig bin with zigs in
Various hooks (JRC 360 hooks which are discontinued), home tied rigs including chods, IQ D-rigs, hinged-stiff (happy to describe my style to identify the rig-box), dozens of leads, no trace chod systems, lead-core, Solar Unleaded, clear and coloured leaders, Fox zig system, Nash zig-bugs, various plastic baits, marker float system, Fox tethered backleads, flying and normal backleads, Reuben black finger stool, head torch, small green keyring bivvy light, orange handled braid scissors, bright green pole elastic, dental floss, stainless mini-screw bait mounts, Nash ball maker etc to names a few identifiable pieces. All top brands

Various Mainline pop-ups and Goo
Bait scoop/ Korda spod and 2 spombs (small white/ large black)
Fox swingers x 3

Green Angling Publications catch report book (which Julian Cundiff gave me to write in, bless his soul) with my detailed catch reports, sketches and notes from the following lakes. Heronsview Fisheries, Walthamstow, Farlows, Gigantica, Ruxley and a few others. All writing/ sketches in black ink which if found will identify the haul.

(Now all I need is for the insurance company to refuse a pay-out).

There’s other stuff but that’s the main items off the top of my head.

Damn those low-life scumbags!

Last night whilst fishing some scumbags nicked a full 2 rod set up whilst fishing, I disturbed them when they set off an alarm on my other rods as they tried to get them too. Thanks for ruining the one thing that keeps me sane and lets me escape real life for a while. To say I am a bit pissed off right know is an understatement!
If any of my fishing buddies out there can keep an eye on any forums etc for
2 x Sonik SK4 XTR rods
2 Sonik Tournos 8000 reels
2 x delkims TXI+ white and blue led's and D locs
2 x Matrix rock solid buzz bars
2 x Solar chunky banksticks ( actually legs off a globetrotter pod)
2 x Matrix cheeky monkeys white with green isotopes
These are the main items and may be in the North Yorks Darlington area

Hi ,

I Hope Admin don't mind, if you do pls remove :-)

I have developed a new website.

It's a place where you can list anything you have had stolen along with pictures. The site is new as said, so at the moment there isn't much on it. There is a section for your fishing gear. If you take 5 to post it will soon get busy. I am in talks with my local police force with a view to get them to also post any reports of stolen property. Please help and spread the word.

Thank you

*ADMIN* plz remove if not allowed, I am appealing to the residents of long stratton for help...last night/early hours fri morning my husbands shed got broken into, it contained all of his fishing gear and it seems the person that did it knew what they were after as that was all they targeted. ... amongst the items stolen were a trakker bivvy, a couple of poles, fox bite alarms in a bag and lead bag with accessories if anyone hears of anything like these attempting to be sold or if anyone knows anything plz pm me I have a crime number the police have been informed but can't do anything, these are items we saved for for a long time and also had sentimental value, I am hoping I can get these people caught.

This happened in Long Stratton, Norfolk. Also, one of the replies to this says Tacolneston, Norfolk has been done over and several sheds have been thieved from...

Any help would be gratefully appreciated... Thank you.

Had my gear nicked out the back of my Van the other night - absolute gutter !!!

Good news (if any) is that I always bring my rods and alarms in the house. Bad news is they had the rest and only likely to get a quarter of the value back from my insurance firm.

I always wedge the back of the van up to my garage doors so that the thieving fuc*ers cant open either - however the night i decide to nose the van in cos I was running late for something, they decide to turn me over !!!

If any anglers read this that park their van up in a secure way - then please dont be lazy like I did - you'll pay the price !!!

After reading this I thought being a new fisherman and having spend so much money I thought I better get insurance.

I contacted my house insurance and told them what I want to cover, like most of these things it does in blockes so I picked £10,000 and it was only £30 a year for all cover.

I don't know if that is good or bad but it sounded fair to me I was told I don't have to list the stuff as long as it was not one peace over £2500 and there fore I am also covered for just walking down the street and lose my watch.

Guys the smar****er system i mentioned ages ago is being shown at the Carp show in december on he CAPS stand,
it wont stop your gear being nicked but will make it harder to sell which if we can inhibit the market should at least slow down the thefts

I know it does make up for sentimental value etc but my gear was pinched on the bank. Luckily its insured, so managed to replace it. I tend to try and not fish alone anymore. As long as someone i know is within a few pegs.

I notice 2 high profile anglers have had there vans broken into and tackle stolen lately, Martin Bowler, Tom Dove. With no disrespect to there likes, They will probably find it less difficult to replace there gear, than the rest of us? Without stating the obvious, try not to leave tackle in your van. Ok, if your out fishing that can be difficult. CAPs are trying to find info on alarms to fit in the back of vans. Noise and light are the best deterrent.. It amazes me, that we are quite happy to spend loads of our hard earned dosh on tackle and bait, but not 30 or 40 quid on an alarm for your garage or shed? At least try and make it difficult for these scumbags

Stolen Tackle has now become a major issue. CAPS, (Carp angling protection society) are trying to set up a Data Base of stolen tackle. If you check there web page there is some useful info on how to protect your gear. S****water looks a good way to mark your tackle. Its basically a liquid with a DNA. profile registered to each individual. Each profile is different. If we can get all the second hand tackle dealers on board, by issuing them with infra red torches, They should be able to tell straight away if the gear is stolen. We have a long way to go, but at least its a start.

Just had all my gear nicked after someone broke into my conservatory. All im left with is a 4m holiday pole, a rig for that and a disgorger....which were in my car.

Probably lost around £4k's worth of stuff....stuff ive built up over the years including a Mitchell match 440A which ive had for 35 years.

The stuff was mainly carp and general float/feeder tackle but was all decent, expensive stuff, some of it probably irreplaceable.

Don't know what's going to happen next. Police have been contacted and they've done house to house but there's not a lot more they can do. I know they've also raided a few local addresses and checked out known traders but nothing. Ive contacted my contents insurance company but you know what they're like so not holding my breath with that one.

Two major problems here....firstly the tackle was in a curtained off area of the conservatory so it could've gone missing a week before i discovered the theft and secondly, they turn our street lights out at about midnight so it's pretty dark and quiet up our street.

Items stolen....

6 rod holdall with 3 fox carp rods, float rod, feeder rod, JRC oval brolly, 42" landing net, Fox pod
Large caryall with tackle boxes and terminal tackle, 3 Shimano Aero GT baitunners, 3 Fox alarms, loads of bait and stuff,
JRC bivvy
Carp barrow
Daiwa seat box with terminal tackle, reels
JRC bedchair
JRC chair
plus loads of other bits i haven't listed such as cookers, lamps, tables, unhooking mat etc

Whoever took this knew what they were after and must've seen me take it in and out of the house. There must've also been 2 of them and a car....you just don't walk up the road with this amount of gear.

so if anyone hears of any stuff for sale second hand in or around Lewes, East Sussex, please let me know.

I work hard for my tackle and in todays economy and tackle aint cheap im fighting for my gear tools or no tool
though I have insurance so in a moment of clarity I don't have to use force, and having waters which allow dogs allows me to bring my staff so added protection.

"libellousash" I totally agree with you, something needs to be done about this, we shouldnt have to pay out more money to insure our carp tackle that we have paid a lot of money for! I personally have had my tackle stolen from my own garden shed, near enough £2000 worth. I don't live in a rough area, I padlock the shed and I have 2 Rottweillers roaming in the yard yet somehow all my tackle was stolen.. My own opinion is somebody i know has stolen it but thats another story! We need to get this sorted ASAP.

Quick question about new tackle - the Vision range, any recommendations?

Thanks

I have to say i totally agree i just recently had everything nicked including 2 brand new Free Spirit Hi s rods.
if we could somehow restrict the second hand market then it may slow down this trend.
Isnt it time we as anglers started to question where the stuff on ebay etc has come from rather than just taking the bargain?
CAPS are looking into a 'Smar****er ' system which you paint onto your gear which is like a DNA marker which you register as yours and it cannot be got rid off and when scanned will show the details of original owner.
Cash converters have agreed to take the scanners which is a start and it will be a slow process but anything will help.
A register of stolen gear would be a great idea and would allow everyone to register whats been nicked and prospective buyers could go on there to make sur what they are buying isnt stolen, what do people think?

Maybe a possible solution tackle theft.
A mate at work bought one for his bike because he had the last two nicked. I thought these would be ideal for carp equipment.
Some budding entrepreneur may even be able to adapt them especially for us fishermen. Units that fit into rod handles...ect.
I can see it already in the next Korda range LOL

http://www.integratedtrackers.com/GPSTrack/Spybike.jsp
Cant get the linky to work!! Grr

Battery Charged for 180 days
Alerts if it moves out of a predetermined geographical boundary
track via GPS on pc or mobile.

The old bill can catch the little buggers and have your gear back in Hours/days

Most serious carpers have in the region of a grands worth of equipment. I don't think an extra £100 is too much to prevent the heartache of loosing hard earned and often 'one off' pieces of fishing equipment. Might even put the scumbags off a bit if it gets known that trackers are being used!!

Just thought I maybe able to help :-)

the angler was a lucky and to this day still says he never ment to do what he did, but he did mean to hurt the theif to teach him a lesson.
he's still fishing the same lake and stupidly still keeps a hammer under his bed chair when fishing.

i knew of a angler who was on a well known water in south east Essex and someone tried to thieve his 3 new hisiv's with basias and matching spod and marker rods , at least 2500 pounds worth of rods and reels , this had happened before on this water to several anglers but this time the robber came un stuck as the said angler set about him with a plasterboard hammer he kept under his bed chair. the angler was charged with GBH and for carrying an offensive weapon and got community service and a fine.
the robber lost nearly a pint of blood, half an ear, and 2 fingers. but did keep his life. since that day the lake has had no more reports of tackle theft.
im not saying the angler was right to go to this extreme to protect himself and his kit, but i would protect myself and kit and use force if i had to.
the morale of this story is u never know who's in the bivvy and how far the the person is willing to go and if a few more of us anglers caught and acted in a similar manner maybe we could put a stop to these a***holes who think they can take our hard earnt gear from us

Only just joined the Forum today, and was reading this thread about tackle thefts from home, and waterside.
What I do when out night fishing, is get a couple of old bank sticks with a couple of cheap £5 bite-alarms, and tie some old mono-line off through them and make a 'perimeter/barrier' of line, going from the waters edge, inland, to the very front edge of your bivvy, at a height of about 2-feet.
This in essence, makes a virtually invisible alarm zone, and if anyone tries to get near your alarms, pod, rods, etc, they trip the line, which in turn sets off the cheap bite alams, waking/alerting you to the scum trying to thieve your gear!
Hope this helps?!

I once had my bloody tackle box stolen from right beneath my nose in a open front brolly while I was asleep it was the morning aswel, there was some Chav fishing the otherside with a staffy. I think it was him as I helped him out earlier in the day and even gave him a lead core leader, so he must have seen inside my tackle box and thought "I want that suff". My phone and a few other bits were right next to it don't know why he didn't take that stuff aswell. I was fuming I just had a gut feeling it was the chav I helped I even plucked up the courage to polity ask him weather he's seen my tacklebox lol. Oh and I forgot to mention my mate I was with also got done and got his throwing stick and rod tip tops which was actually inside his Titan. And to top it all of I told the bailiff and he done fu#k all about it didn't even looked like he gave a sh*t tbh, the nob has been fired now anyway. The only time a fish the place now is night guesting

Try to avoid fishing places with Chav's as much as possible.
Cannot stand it TBH, the uneasy feeling when Chav's pass asking silly questions just to see what youv'e got on the bank.

Not for me.

This is one of the things I'm concerned about when doing an overnighter. I fish on quite a rough pond which is known for it's chavs. I can never sleep easy at night in the bivvy with the bivvy door closed because the slightest sound and I think someones out there taking my rods and reels. This is one of the reasons why I never buy top end gear, I make do with £50 reels and £50 rods which tbh serve my well. But it's sad really, that I don't want to buy top end gear because if it does get nicked, it wont be THAT much of a blow.

I wouldnt wish it on anyone mate, I was insured when mine got stolen.... but had loads of trouble with the insurance getting it replaced I have now taken out specialist fishing tackle insurance.
Im disgusted to hear more and more people are getting robbed on the bank too...... My syndicate is very secure but after some of the things i'm reading I'll be carrying a bat/metal pole or something similiar under my bed too. I always take my dog so she warns me when someone is coming, but a good chunk of metal always helps fend these tossers away

Hi Lads.
I am new to the site and am just exploring all the various threads, came accross this one as theft has happened to me too. It was November last year and the bas***** forced my garage door open. I live in Nuneaton near Coventry. I had done a bit of tackle upgrading, buying and selling on various sites...... Anyway, about 3.30pm I gets a call from the wife going mad about me selling my gear....... She had been into the garage to see my rod bag had gone, calls me going mad 'cant believe' youve sold your rods etc' she says. To which I reply no i have not!! she says well they aint 'effin here!! She turns round and all my oither kit had gone too!! GUTTED aint the word. I race home from work and they have taken everything aprt from my barrow, Nash all terrain evo and my spod rod & reel. I had the best part of £9k's worth of gear gone. Amongst it was 3 Shimano tribal extreme rods 3lb 12ft, 3 Shimano Tech MGS reels, Delks with receiver duo carbs and nitelights, Trakker Crossfire and brand new wrap, Diem holdall and rucksack, Nash Sleep system, Fox Digi scales, Fox double sided f box FULL of terminal stuff, Primus ETA power stove, Greys marker rod and Emblem spod reel, loads of bait, Plus a load of other stuff, I had everything you could want or need to fish. My mum sadly passed away a year before and and left me a little bit of money, money I decided I would use to upgrade my gear so this was mostly bought with inheritance money which makes it more upsetting. What makes it worse was that it all happend at 11am!!!!!!!!!!!!! These guys also stepped over lots of power tools (I'm a Carpenter by trade btw) I had a £1500 road racing bike they walked past to get at my gear too!!
I believe they would have got more but for my dog, who was running around the downstairs going mental at the people in the garage.
Luckily, and I say luckily in a loose way, I was insured..... to an extent!! My garage is connected to my detached house via a door into the kitchen. The garage also has a bedroom on top of it...... My insurance company kindly decided that my garage is an outbuilding so they would only be paying me 5% of my contents value!! They were offering me £2k!!!!!!!! After a SHED load of hassle they relented and offered me another £2.5k as my wife has a certain item cover for £2.5k on the policy and due to the circumstance they will add this to the claim. It took me a hell of a lot of hassle to get this.
The £4.5k I got back replaced my gear, once I'd got everything I think was stolen it had cost me about £800 on top of the insurance payout.
The people who do this are UTTER SCUM, the lowest of the low and lower. All I will say is Check your house insurance to make sure you are PROPERLY covered, i wasnt and it nearly cost me. It was only the generosity of my insurance company that got me more money so I didnt have to find it. If you dont have insurance then GET SOME! And make sure your shed or garage is properly secure..... mine was, or so I thought, but it is now! you would need a tank to get in it!! But seriously guys, I dont think we will ever stop these scumbags but just make sure YOU do all you can to make it damn hard for them to get it, and if they do then make sure you are financially covered. As for thefts on the bank, well, i know if i ever get threatened on the bank then they can take it.... its not worth getting hurt for, plus I have insurance should this (fingers crossed it wont) happen.
Sorry to go on so long!!!!!

damned good idea mate. where did you get yours from? If I lost my tackle it would take years to build back up, as it I'm still building bits and bobs. theres always something a angler needs or wants to upgrade then some scumbag takes it, £80 is a bargain compared to the value of our gear. I must admit not looked at audio only.

I think im going to get one of those infa red pens the police give out I know its probably pointless but you never know I could keep an eye on ebay then check if i thought something might be mine. The problem is the scum that stole it probably sold it someone that knew it was stolen. Keep an eye on gumtree, ebay ect and see if you see anything looks like yours. sorry mate i feel for you. scumbags

The lock is call an 'All weather lock'
Fixed with a 'Hasp hinge pad-lock' both from asda.

Screwed to the floor. Then screwed through the garage door with a cleat (timber) behind it.

Mate of mine had his Tracker Armo Mk11 and Fox sleeping bag stolen on thursday night from Barstons, We had a match on there over the weekend starting early on friday, lots of us got there on thursday evening set the bivvies up in a group and then went down to the clubhouse for a few beers, when we got back his bivvy and sleeping bag were gone and he found his bed chair in the bushes nearby with the frame broken, thieving Scumbags. just glad all the other kit still packed away.

The monitor plugs into the mains, once set up it switches to stand by mode, no picture or sound.
When. a noise triggers the transmitter you hear the sound from the monitor and It switches itself on for video.
No need to do anything except plug it in, and forget about it until some little scumbag thinks he's gonna help himself.
Not sure why the negativity from you?
It's a cheap and effective solution to an increasing problem for anglers.
Only posted hoping that it might help a fellow angler keep hold of their hard earned gear!
And if £80 is too dear then audio only units start at about £20, cheaper than a shed alarm, and guaranteed to hear it if you have the receiver in your bedroom.

however I take it you have to have the monitor switched on all the time to view it.
indeed the monitor does need to be on all the time when viewing
however it doesn't need to be on when you are asleep.
hear noise
wake up
turn on monitor
go say hello to visitors

Looks like a decent system, however I take it you have to have the monitor switched on all the time to view it.
With the type of baby monitor I bought (from Argos) it is sound activated and can be set for sensitivity.
So the monitor is off until the transmitter is activated by sound then it turns on.
I had to turn the sensitivity down on mine as the hedgehogs brushing up against the garage wall was switching it on!

Hi All,
A little advice for those of you who keep tackle in the shed or garage.

A few years ago some scum bags broke into my garage and tried to nick my motorbike, fortunately it was secured to a ground anchor so they didn't get away with it.

But I would have liked the opportunity to greet them on their exit from my garage and pass on my regards for the damage they did to the bike, before they realised it was securely anchored and then dropped it on the floor.

The local constabulary had no luck when they dusted the place for prints.

I did however get a good idea from the SOCO when they came over.

The guy suggested I buy a baby monitor, put the transmitter in the garage and the receiver in my bedroom. This was a great idea which I immediately did.

Well a couple of years on now and the baby monitors have moved on with technology so for £80 i bought a monitor with an infrared camera built in.

2 weeks ago I was woken in the night by a noise in my garage, I looked on the monitor to see the little scumbag trying to load my carp porter with tackle!

I popped out to greet him and pass on my appreciation for his efforts, upon realising how pleased I looked with my mate "Ali Bat" in hand he took off down the street with a bit of a limp from what I assume was a recently acquired leg injury.

So maybe I didn't pass on the degree of gratitude that I would have liked to, but I do think however he got the gist of it!

Without the baby monitor I certainly wouldn't have had the meet and greet opportunity.

Word of warning for any out there fishing Manor Farm in Bedfordshire. I had some tackle stolen last night, both my rods and reels went.

I was up the north end of the lakes closest to the A1 and it appears they came over the fence from the A1 and mine was the first occupied swim.

They cut my mainlines and stole the rods and reels, thankfully they had a numpty moment and setup off my reciever alarm, so all i lost was my rods and reels, please be careful if your there fishing alone.

In case you see anything below is a list of the stolen items, all are inscribed with my initials.

2 x Shimano Alivio CX 2.75lb Rods

2 x Shimano Aero 8000RE Limited Edition reels spooled with 16lb tiger line

Not even expensive gear which f***s me off the most, ar**holes.

Just a heads up for you lads in the midlands/Leicester area. In the early hours on Thursday 6th Sep I had my garage broken into and had a big chunk of my gear taken. Just left my trolly/bed/sleeping bag (nice of them ).

Just make sure all your gear is locked up and out they way lads. Its not a very nice feeling to be victim

My kit is fully covered home or away. Its always worth getting it ins lads because you never know, but it don't take away the feeling you get when you know that someone is going through your gear and laughing there heads off

Make double sure they can't get to your kit lads

Regards dodge

hi chaps, ive had my garage broken into and a hefty bit of kit stolen. theres my chris boardman bike and a few nitro cars but thr majority was my fishing gear.

there was a chub rigger bag taken, but without the external pouches, full of bits like a fox euro swinger kit and presentation box, two shimano navi 7000's with berkley whiplash braid on them, reubon heaton scales, a chub weigh sling...and other niff naff bits.

there was also a chub 6 rod holdall taken with 5 various fox wearrior z's in (3x2.75tc + marker + spod) with a fox x-pod and fox micron m alarms, a fox 42" landing net and handle, a throwing stick etc.

i live in preston, north west of england. if people see anything for sale locally or at car boots etc please let me know. this is a long shot but its worth trying! many thanks.

Hi guys. Right, I know this thread is mainly about tackle that is stolen from houses, sheds, hallways or cars/vans but i am fully aware that a lot of tackle especially rods, reels, buzzers etc. basicly one lift of a pod and youve got probably a couple of grands worth of material for a quick sale which could sell for a few hundred no problem. Not a bad nights work. I do have a way of stopping this but need to find out first wether the majority of these 'bankside' thefts are carried out by individuals or gangs. So, im going to get a bit of feedback from forum users and see wether my idea is worth bringing onto the market before i let the cat out of the bag as i know certain tackle companies will pinch the idea.
Im aware that there will be a mixture of comments and some would of been done by
gangs and some will be individuals, im just wanting to get the majority.
It is a good idea to mark your stuff with whatever, but to be honest once the tackle has been taken you will be very very lucky to ever see it again.
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE EH.
Please give me an idea of how these thieves go about stealing the easy quick pod with all the trimmings or single bank sticks.
Please remember that i know about the so called theft proof delkims. I can get rods off of these without making a bleep, no problem. This will be on my video once i bring my new gadget onto the market.
And no its not a shooter or sleeping gas like they use in the Netherlands..
Look forward to your posts.
PS I am an angler not just an inventor or inovator.

Can anyone help me I had 80% of my fishing equipment stolen from my hallway of my flat about 8 weeks ago I was putting the barrow and bed hair in the car first when some one casually walked passed me and in to the lobby of my block of flats to which I am parked right out side the main door which I'm standing about 4 meters from and then my front door is about 3-4 meters behind that no they have walked to the back door of the building and let someone else in that door walked in to my flat and taken my rod bag and carryall and exited through te back door, as I heard them slam out the back door I ran in to the lobby and in toy flat to see my stuff was gone, I ran out the back but could see witch direction they had gone , being 5 diffent routes I choose 1 to go down but they was gone . No my insurance is refusing to replace my stuff because my door was open and I was 8 meters from my door , does anyone know where I stand here or anything I can do because as u all know it's not like losing ur tv or ps3 this is stuff I have been collecting over 20 years

The fisheries should do what a local estate did by me.
Hire a couple of retired military guys doing security with a wealth of tracking and surveilance experiance it did not take long before they caught the said poachers of which there was two.
They beat the pair within an inch of their lives and then gave a shovel to the one and got him to dig a six foot long pit for his mate to go in.
They then told the other one they would let him go to tell the poaching fraternity what would happen to them if they got caught, needless to say they did not bury the bloke but they went away with a watery substance with a slight lumpy consistency running down ther legs.
To date it has stopped all the activity going on had the desired effect i would say

Storage can be a problem, on the other hand with some items it does make it easier to sell should you want to pass it on even better if the instruction books are with it.

Most containers can be flat packed for storage and take up less room

Not entirely sure if this is in the right place, bit I've just been on the old bay looking at rods and I've noticed a new seller with only 3 transactions selling some full cork Hi's without bags and also two Entohs without the bag. Now I'm not looking to accuse anyone as he could be completely genuine but it just seems funny to not keep the boxes/bags to me especially as if he is genuine he will probably know about the theft problem. Sorry if its in the wrong place but I thought It could be useful if someone had been done in the general area with this kit.

My fibreglass fishing boat was stolen from my club water 'Manor Pond' Cobham, it was a white two man boat with a wheel at the back, they breaked part of the boat to get the chain off.
This is the second boat loss weve had down there. Dosnt make you feel safe any safer.

as he got in to fishing after hearing me bang on and on about my weekends on the bank
i was the first person he called as he had the day off work
when i got the call i had most horrible sinking feeling in my gut and felt the tears in my eyes
it just can't bare thinking about having your gear taken you buy the best you can afford you work hard to acquire the gear you have just for some little s**t to take what is not theirs
i will be having my gear insured not that that will be any consolation

Couple of years ago they did a discount for neighbourhood watch groups if selling more than 20 products but that's when it was a one-off rather than annual subs.

Gotta be worth ago. Although mines sorted so I'm out.

If that is the price Matt just £60 (£5 a month) to have the chance of getting your stuff back it's got to be worth the cost. It might even reduce your insurance premium

I wonder if they would do a special deal if a few forum members showed an interest?

Maybe someone there in the UK could approach the company?

Works out at £5 a month and it will do everything in your house not just fishing gear. I suppose it's down to what your willing to spend to protect £1000's of fishing kit. Plus your 42" TV, computer, laptop, camera, wife's jewellery, bikes, ornaments, expensive watch, art, mobile phone, ipod, hifi, car stereo and your copper piping round your home.

Depends on circumstance but something to consider for the equivalent of a couple of beers.

Might even be worth contacting your local neighbourhood plod or council crime reduction team to see if there are any funded packs depending on the area you live.

Has anyone considered Smart water?

A long lasting liquid DNA that glows under UV light. Very difficult to remove and a deterent to the thieving scum if you've got a smart water sticker in your window too. It's a coded way of tracing your belongings if there's a suspicion of them being nicked by some scroat. Ok if your not changing your gear every 5 minutes.

Im sure ive read somewhere about tackle thefts at linear? or was i dreaming? how the hell does tackle get taken from that place, isnt it a well respected big carp fishery where programs are made etc etc. Would love a quick answer on this.

Simple idea, the best often are. I can see that it would help the police to identify stolen property that has been recovered.

The fly in the ointment with the method described is that it places the onus on the new owner to alert the authorities and the person who had owned the items, before it was stolen.

Given that the unsuspecting owner would not be able to recover the money he has paid out for the stolen property there are people who would turn a blind eye. I would hope that would not happen but humane nature being what it is today I have my doubts.

Having said that anything you can do to help the scrotes who steal tackle to get what is coming to them should be encouraged and doing what is advised is a step in the right direction.

Something iv'e done that others may find usefull.

Firstly: Before putting new line on my reels ive put stolen on white tape and my phone number. Ive never purchased second hand reels but if i did I would change the line straiht away.

Secondly: Inside battery compartment on my alarms a piece of paper again with stolen and my phone number.

I can't see a thief thinking to remove line or the battery cover before selling on and I hope someone who has purchased the gear in good faith would report them or even better phone me with the name and address of where they got it from.

Right, well... we can either do it using one thread in this forum or do it using it's own "Lost/Stolen Tackle" forum.

Having it's own forum would be substantially more effective as we would be able to have hyperlinks to each individual's own thread which has pictures, distinguishable features and more details on how an item(s) was stolen. We would have three stickied threads:

1. "Lost/Stolen Tackle: An Introduction and Rules"
2. "Lost/Stolen Tackle: How to avoid a theft"
3. "Lost/Stolen Tackle: Database"

1. "Lost/Stolen Tackle: An Introduction and Rules" should include

~ A short paragraph including hyperlinks to different sections of the forum (stickied threads 2 and 3), including a brief description of each thread and why it should be visited. For example, for thread 3: "Fishing equipment theft is a major problem in the angling world. To help protect your tackle and that of others, please visit the Lost/Stolen Tackle: Database before purchasing any second hand fishing items.".

~ Information on how to construct a thread in the forum. This should be in the form of a thread template outlining the important features of the theft/loss of equipment which will make it distinguishable to other anglers. For example:

Location (Venue, Town, County, Country - where a Venue may be a fishery, car, house etc):
Time (Hour(s) e.g "Between 2am and 6am", Day, Month, Year):
Was the item(s) lost or stolen?:
Which item(s) was lost (or stolen)? (Brand e.g Fox, Model e.g Warrior S, Tackle Type e.g 2.75 TC Carp Rod, Quantity):
Contact Information (First name (optional, Email Address):
Additional Information (E.g "I saw two teenagers wearing black jumpers running towards the main road" or "My bait boat has my initials inscribed in it's base" - please note, any extra information may prove vital to any potential witnesses, targets or reading anglers.):

This part of the thread should also include a "What to do next" section where a thread poster should be informed of the likely methods of communication should their tackle be found. For example, "Please ensure you regularly check your "PM Inbox" on this forum as well as the email address you provided." This section might also contain likely places where stolen tackle might be found (but should be covered in more detail in thread 2, "Lost/Stolen Tackle: How to avoid a theft".

~ The rules. Clear restrictions on common forum abuse (such as swearing), specific forum abuse (posting hoax thefts) and revealing personal information (such as a full name, address etc).

2. "Lost/Stolen Tackle: How to avoid a theft" should include

Perhaps a short paragraph including some facts and figures about tackle theft in the past X amount of years followed by an in depth look at ways to avoid having your tackle stolen. Entries should be posted by members on this thread but deleted once reviewed and, should the suggestions be appropriate, be edited into the original post (with a reference to the contributors).

3. "Lost/Stolen Tackle: Database" should include

A short paragraph explaining how to report any suspected items matching the description of the lost/stolen tackle. This should include the owner themselves, a universal (and anonymous) email address and the ability to perhaps PM designated moderators?
The thread should go straight onto the main list as soon as possible to make the process as quick, easy and as least time-consuming as possible for the visitor. The list should be of the items in alphabetical order (and not grouped in case a lot is sold individually and dismissed by an angler who has seen, for example, a rod sold by itself on eBay when in fact the owner had his entire tackle collection taken). Each item will then be linked to it's owner's original thread containing further details where a viewer may begin to decide whether they might have discovered an item of stolen tackle. The thread should stress that stolen tackle makes up a small percentage of second hand trade and that suspicion should only be aroused if there is evidence to back it up.
Perhaps each item can be coloured based on when it was put up on the database. For example, red indicates January, blue indicates February etc (using only six common colours)... should an item be on the database for over 6 months, it should be removed. After six months, red can than be used to symbolise August, blue would be September etc. (A small key would be drawn up).

Perhaps some moderators could volunteer to run this section?

Anyway, I need sleep.. will think of some ideas on how to run it as just a single thread in the General Discussion forum another day...

I started a couple of threads about a month or so back (TACKLE THEFTS- location, time, items stolen only) and (TACKLE THEFTS- general discussion) i started two so that reports and discussions would be kept seperate and asked for both to be stickies and both have structure to them,
I agree with the idea of notifying people but as stated below it needs structure, would it not make sense to make both the other threads as stickies as i can see this is just going to get clogged with general discussion and not what people are actually looking for

Sorry for the negative input but its a good idea still

All the best
Andy
