chemofish or chemonut

these are the dogs nuts.
one is a fish meal and the other nut meal (tiggers/peanut etc)
no flavours or colouring added to mix just 5ml of very good quality salmon oil
i have used these for a season and have only blanked 3 times this year

there on the web just type in chemobait

get on them

There are hundreds in each bag, how are we supposed to select just ten of them to use?! That's before we've even changed flavour. This is a extremely difficult question to answer and requires so much thought. I'll have to come back with my answer.

Or 10 Mainline baits in reverse chronological order by release date. Ha ha!

well from the boilies i have actually used (not many lol) here are my top 10:

dynamite fresh shrimp or spicy shrimp and prawn
dynamite monster tiger nut
dynamite source
CW baits supreme boilie
mainline cell
mainline maple 8
dynamite red fish
nash scopex squid + robin red
nash strawberry boilies
carp company icelandic red.

these would be the baits that have done best for me but i reckon any top quality bait will do the bizz if fished in the right place and used well. this year im looking at buying in bulk from baitcraft. they got some top bait and really good deals

Well now that jamie is back and rolling there is only one bait that I and a lot of other people will be using and that is the Cav and blackpepper from INFINITY baits.

It is the best bait on the market by far and dont need and fancy marketing campaign's like the mainline baits to prove it's worth.

Used trigga and trigga ice for several years worked well for me,though the last couple of years ive been on cell, last year i tested it against KT30 and fusion.
Fishing the same spots over the same amount of baits 2 rods on cell against 2rods on KT30 The cell gave me 50% more runs.
No doubt you would get different results on different waters at different times of the year but for me its Cell hands down

Here in Holland I've fished a lot with Nutrabaits, and for me it's the most succesfull longterm stuff.

lets face it...there are soooooo many baits on the market and they all work.....they all catch, it just us anglers who think they have the "best" bait and the bait companies spurt out all their marketing rubbish to catch us.

I would say Essential B5 by a long long way and wouldn't put anything else even close.

I was only enquiring on here the other day bean about their new black snail. Anything they release is usually top draw and I have heard some very good things about it. Prob the most exciting bait release of the year ahead

Ive only ever used bait from three companies in 15 years so dont have loads to go on! One of those three i didnt like any of their baits so i wont mention em lol.
1. Baitworks - Monster Red
2. Carp Company - Icelandic reds.
3. Baitworks - Atlantic heat
4. Carp Company - Original black squid.

I tend to find summat i like and stick with it for years. just tweaking it slighty as i go along and get to know it better.

odd thread, but hey...
up to now, i would say the most consistant baits i have used are
1) Essential B5, 2) CC Moore Meteor, 3) Mainline Maple8.

There are others i have used such as vision OP and mainline assasin8, and have caught ok enough, but never used them constantly enough to pass a true judgement.

Oh and the one boilie i catch most on is Solar Winter Secret pop-ups...

That statement is just wrong .............. but many baits out there are just balls of edible stuff with flavours etc. But some boilies are entirely different and are MUCH better than the others. With a statement like that You obviously hav'nt used any of the GOOD ones?

LOL...This is a funny thread imo....as in laughing, not weird

Used a few of the ones mentioned over the years but currently, looking at the consistant catch results, The Eclipse Adrenaline seems to be doing very well at the moment.

Tried it a few times this year. Fished on the same rigs and on the same spot as another (good) bait I'd been using for a while, and I was impressed with the ratio of fish/takes from the Adrenaline compared to the other.

But as in all things people have different preferences (oooh err missus).

As has been said earlier, a lot of it comes down to bait application for consistant catches....Any bait will catch fish in the right circumstances, but consistantly catching the fish is when the quality baits come into their own, imo.

I have had a recent experience that would prove your thinking wrong, although conditions change. I took 15kg of Odyssey XXX with me on a recent trip to France. I caught within an hour of casting out. My frinds started on particles and NRG as they have found them to work well in the past. after 2 days I had 5 carp and lost 2, my friends had 1 carp between 3 of them. They all put some XXX on 1 rod and instantly their cacth rate increased on this rod? by the end of our 2 week trip we had landed 105 carp lost 20+ for various reasons, only 8 of the fish fell to other baits? they just seemed to be hunting the XXX out. We could of done with another 50kg!!!!
Since returning I have purchased some more and have caught on both waters I have fished so I don't think I will be using another bait for a while see how it does this winter.
2. Spicy Tangerine (made by a friend occasionally)
3. Maple 8
4. Solar Dairy cream with Hutchy Maple cream (great winter bait)
5. NRG
6. Assasin8
7. Monster tiger nut
8. Grange
9. Scopex squid livers
10. Rosehip Isotonic

Boilies .. it's just colour, size and wether it's a fruity or meaty flavour. THAT IS IT!
Anyone who thinks a certain boilie from a certain manufacturer has a 'special' ingrediant \ combination that will land them more fish is deluded!

ok they may see it as their main food source but is it doing them any good, i believe a fish has natural instinct- something that we have lost, if they eat something and its ok then eat something that fullfills their bodily needs i believe they are more inclined into picking up the decent bait, then if they feel the need eat a bit of the other after. its like some american person( not trying to be stereotypical but it has happened) has eaten themselves to death nearly because they have chosen fast food as their 'main food source' or should i say only food source. i think due to natural instinct that if they can eat something that is better quality and will do them more good, they will, but you will still catch on other baits due to them also being opertunist feeders and so if they are 'hungry' and theres a bit next to them theyre not gonna say ' hm tigernut, i had that earlier, so il try something different and go off looking for something else, theyle most likely just eat it. on the other hand if a fish knows the scent of a quality wholesome bait they will find it and get so matter whether its on gravel, in silt, in weed, in the chod etc

so basically i think creating a main food source will only work properly and most effectively with a quality wholesome bait other wise its just the same as picking up any one elses bait.

i do on a certain venue where lots of it goes in, so why waste time using something they don't come across on daily basis, it's a good bait and as caught me fish from this venue haven't tried it on the other venues i fish as i use something quite different on these to get my fish. but at the end of the day you have to have confidence in the bait your using and if you don't then why keep experimenting with different baits.

as a general rule of thumb stick to baits you have 100% confidence in.

definately worth a go though mate.

Completely pointless thread yet again, how many muppets are you going to read saying use this use that

my best 10 is such and such.

There was a very good post made by one of the mods, about applying bait. Find a bait that you can afford and is in your eyes gona catch you cypo's and use it So that the cyp's see your bait as the main food source of your chosen water.

Hmmm top ten semolina and bulked out baits ...lol..

Best bait by far has to be one where you have total quality control over it yourself

Most of the commercial ones are governed by constraints such as cost etc so they can only make them so good before they ain't viable cost wise .. whereas with making your own you can put as much goodies in as you like and can afford .. personally i use loads of goodies all natural no chemical additives and i find my own to be better than any commercial made bait

Ever wish you'd never asked a question Ryan? Confused, I am
Might be best to find out if there is a "going Bait" on the lake or try and get a few carpers together to start putting the same bait on a regular basis, get them used to it and you'll do ok!

This must be the the most hilarious thread on the site...and boy does that take some beating!

Bait-Buff posts what should have been a thread-ending post......and MattyCarperHunter re-highlights the post................

and it's still "bait 'a' or 'b' is the best..."

The Source seems to be one of those baits that either fishes well on some lakes or not at all on others. I used it on my club lake one year and couldn't buy a bite on it. Nash Sting was the bait that was going in the lake and I thought that the Source was a very similar smelling bait.

Strange one

Think it all depends on the fish in the lake your fishing pal.
The fish in my local lake are quite parshall to The Source and Trigga Ice but it will be different no matter where you go.

The malarky is good enough for me and at £5 a kilo i can afford a whole host of other baits.

Bait and feed company Particle 42 is underated

But as some have said this is an impossible question as there isn't a best bait really there are just a heap of very good baits that will do the job.

well find it amazing that hutchie stuff was not mentioned seams like its never figured in some minds but without him would we have some of the base mix and flavour combos we have now??

just pic a good cheep base mix low flavour levels and pre bait kinder on your wallet and unlike most fishing around you so my fine an edge given time for it to get established

Nothing beats my own fishmeal/robin red boilies with Bruce Ashby Moose Juice flavour imo!

The best commercial boilie i've ever used is Mainlines NRG!
Was happy about Trigga as well. Had better results using the shelf lives than using the home rolled ones!

Makes me laugh when i hear pple say "try this bait, best bait there is "
that is your opinion and seeing the amount of baits mentioned in this thread there is an awful lot of ..." best baits" on the market

An individual will use a bait have good results on it and to them thats the best bait there is , whereas someone will use something completely different and think that is the best bait

There are a lot of great baits out there made by a lot of different companies some id use long term as a food bait and other short term instant attract.

Get hold of a bait company with a good reputation ie quest ,richworth mainline ,nash , choose a decent food profile boilie and stick with it baiting up with them on a regular basis.
as previously mentioned by baitbuff there are so many good baits around now that when u choose one baiting up and the way u apply the bait can be more important .

sorry about the double post mods

The top 10 baits should only be the ones your confident in using not anyone elses top 10 for sure? Its down to you to decide the top ten because you fish different waters to the rest. Only my opinion mind

I'm with you on the B5. Brilliant bait. As far as location goes, yes vitally important but you still need to present them with a bait they want to eat. I've seen so many anglers getting their location spot on and undoubtedly fishing amongst a shed load of fish, only to blank because they were using a bait that the fish just didn't want to eat.

Carp company icelandic red, Shellfish b5 & grange plum all top baits that i have used for many years. Started with grange plum done well but fancied a change and chopped and changed between b5 & Ice reds. But for me the ice reds are the best. One thing its no good having a top bait and fishing a crap swim/spot. Its all about location location location.

Baitbuff you are the MAN What you say has hit the nail on the head. If you introduce any bait on a regular basis in known feeding area's the food source will begin to come natural to the carp. Something they will actively look for. A good quality bait will work better over a longer period but there is the cost to consider. Unfortunatley myself included most anglers are limited to time, cost, preparation and locality to water that they cannot apply this theory. So the bait war will always continue.Would be intrested to know what your ultimate "mass produced bait" would be if money, quantity and time was not an issue.

i use catcher baits products currently.

they are superb and the provided me with something close if not identically matched to the baits i used to spend hours making at home for a fraction of the cost.

And saving me hours away from the fishery rolling the things

i have also had a large amount of tails up SC25 in me freezer for a little while and that works very well on the larger lakes and more presured venues very good for commons ive found

Sheeeeeeep!

Mass produced bait will never be as good as the bait made by the individuals.

They use ingrediants that sound good, but actually have all the goodness squeezed out of them.

They use normal tap water, which can be PH high or low, and contains chlorine.

They use ingrediants that sound great, but dont do the preparatory work to make best use of them.

Do yoursleves a favour and avoid the overpriced mass produced rubbish and find yourself a one man band who actually gives a dam what the bait is like.

this thread's great isn't it....sums up this site so well.

Baitbuff goes out of his way to explain the ins and outs of bait and its application, and I have to say that's one of the best bait posts I have ever seen on here.

A few posts later

"try trigga m8"

Read Baitbuff's post again. And again. And if necessary..again. Until you understand that its how you use it, not what you use - in almost all circumstances.

The reason I think that's a great post is because i know how good Aminos is as a bait - it took apart a local syndicate a few years ago as 10 of the 50 or so anglers on there were all using it, and baiting regularly with it. It outscored all other baits 10:1. For another bait to outscore Aminos, purely through good application, 100% proves the theory that Baitbuff is trying to convey.

suppose it depends what your trying to achieve,if you were to concentrate your efforts on a certain water then a h.n.v bait is surely a must,if you do not have the time to put in the effort or are flitting from water to water then use what you have confidence in,be it a good food bait or a 50/50 flavour carrier

Yes but some combinations of elements are more or less assimilated by the fish if are used in combinations between themself.
Anyway my personal opinion is that fish prefer NHV baits, that did not means a 50% fishmeal bait....... you you just perfectly know it better than me.
Your point of view and considerations on the test done is absolutely interesting, and correspond on some similar done scurely by others... and me too.

ps was long time I didnt enter in this forum, you always have some to teach.

I should also add that i personally believe that a bait with a higher nutritional value which is easily digested would out fish a bait with a substantially lower food value if the two were prebaited in equal quantities.
The other thing that should be taken into account is that fish can only utilise a certain amount of nutrients/proteins etc so over a certain point the nutrients are just excreted and wasted anyway.

I agree strongly with Baitbuff's comments. I am prebaiting a river at the mo ready for the 16th and the new season in general. I'm using boilies from kent particles, £15 for 5 kilo's. They are the left over's from there hand rolled baits. Good quality but still cheap for my needs. Add this to a handful of tigers for 3 days a week and the jobs done on half the price!

My experience has taught me that a good quality nutritional food bait will completely out fish other lower food value baits by a considerable margin, even if the lower food value bait is being introduced on mass.

This is why I only use the B5 now. It just seems to out catch everything else, even when used in fairly small quantities.

Funny how anglers can have such different findings, but that's typically carp fishing I suppose

What ever bait is prebaited with regularly.
Application is the key to any bait, so long as it has a decent nutritional value the fish will eat it, the more a bait is introduced the better it will be. Do yourself a favour and get on a decent under flavoured cheap bait and prebait it regularly. I would without a doubt prefer to buy a bait such as Active Bait Solutions Mlarky for £5 a kilo rolled and introduce twice as much than buying an over priced bait from Mainline/Richworth etc for £10 per kilo.
Prebaiting in the places that the fish naturally feed on a regular basis is the key to catching, not so much which bait, a bait with a decent nutritional value will keep catching so long as it is applied correctly.
Alternitavely find out what bait is/has regularly being/been prebaited in the lake you intend to fish and use it.

Don't believe all the hype you read in the magazines!

Why do you think everyone has different opinions on the best bait?
Answer, it all depends on the bait that is being introduced in to their lakes/or was introduced into lakes they have previously fished.
Many people get on a going bait, catch well then have confidence in the bait and swear by it on any lake, many times the reason that bait was so good in the start is because the fish were used to feeding on it.

Trust me I tried an experiment years ago, a lake I used to regularly fish was responding well to Premier Aminos (a good bait) and was being introduced on a now and then basis. I made up a very standard fishmeal bait consisting of just soya, semo, maize protein and fishmeal (not exactly the most nutricious bait) and applied it in quantity on a regular basis for a few weeks then fished it. I absolutly hammered the place and runs stopped on the Aminos, I continued to bait the lake and to use the bait for the whole of the season and runs just kept coming. Its more about the introduction of a bait rather than the type of bait.

So many boilies around these days. There will always be so many different answers.

But...........the best of the bunch in my experience is shellfish B5 (essential baits)

Its all down to personal preference really, all the baits available from the bait companies will catch fish. How many red fishmeals are there which are all very simular and equally effective, baits like Monster Pursuit, Source, SC25, Apex all good baits but very simular in make up.

Just pick one and stick with it. Don't chop and change onto the latest cult bait every time a new wonder bait comes out. How you fish it makes far more difference than the actual bait itself.

Tight lines.

Stick to fresh frozen thou!

Any of the mainline freezer range is good starting point mate, Tails Up have excellent range of baits that i have done well on !!

Personally i would stick with fresh frozen fella !

If i was goin g to go for a readymade then probably go for the richworth range - tutti fruity - pineapple, plum royale - crab and mussel

To be truthful any bait will work on its day mate but its down to personal choice and confidence etc !!!!

I need to get some new boilies for the new year.

But i am not sure on which ones to get because there is such a wide range of them out now.

Any suggestions on what boilies you would recomend to try out which seem to catch a few carp on or which carp seem to take more confidently?

thanx Ryan
