Yeah I have one they are brilliant. My chirp used to cut out around 40m but the ND extender keeps it connected and I must say it's a cracking bit of kit for £99 👍

Obviously you have to add the battery and tripod. I use a Yobon 30,000 Mah plus a K&F concept tripod which extends to 67 inches, so there's a bit to add but still it's a brilliant bit of kit.

Has anyone used the ND Tackle range extender? It seems a fair price. I know you can make one yourself but by the time you've bought the Vonets, 6 dbi antenna, waterproof case, bankstick adapter and a tablet holder you haven't really saved a great deal.

What you can try with these dual antenna devices is use the standard one that comes with it plus a high gain antenna - the one I'm using is 3dBi of gain out of the box) - the signal shape if you can imagine it is quite spherical in the signal or pattern shape to be precise which if you're antenna isn't pointing vertically, it's not so bad and there's lots of leeway seeing as the signal is roundish, you can also switch one of the antennas for a high gain antenna which should effectively give you greater range.

The only downside of using a higher gain antenna is that the signal is flattened, what I mean by that is that if you imagine a ball for example, with a higher gain antenna it's as if a fat bloke is sitting on the ball and making it more egg shaped...the greater the gain, the greater the elongation/flatter the signal will be which means you must have the antenna as absolutely straight and vertical as you can get it otherwise the gained signal will shoot over or fall short of your intended device/boat/whatever.

I have one of these , more range than you can realistically ever need.

There's a lot of info out there mate, good stuff too, can save yourself a lot of money if you want

@11 TeeCee. I know what you mean re the money, it was just but the original poster mentioned it in post 3.

I'm not particularly techy but if I apply myself I can follow others leads. I did make a range extender myself with a router as discussed on the forum in another post, it worked perfectly well but I liked the tidyness of Matts design rather than the router and couldn't be bothered to recase the router gubbins...personal preference...like you say each to their own

I might be tempted to part with that router if anyones interested, prices have gone up since I bought it...just saying......probably cheaper ones available tho

I think you've got me confused for someone else? I've already mentioned just buying a bridge repeater and just buy a battery. If you wanted it to look pretty you could put it in a box instead of an off the shelf box with the same in. None of what I've suggested has a carp tax.

Or are you talking about buying PCB parts and making you own bridge/extender? I'm sure I could if I was bothered to, maybe take a while to build my own GUI and get it working correctly? To save time I'm happy with what I've suggested to others, could get a cheaper bridge/extender I'd guess.

What I’m saying is for techies like me it’s difficult to justify when it’s just a bog standard WiFi bridge repeater that’s packaged up and sold.

For me I’d call it carp tax.

But if you are a technophobe I completely understand.

It's not so much the money, I quite like being able to MacGyver things myself, sort of a hobby.

Funnily enough, I bought the ND one, it was only when I cracked it open I thought, wow, I could do that myself. Each to their own and all that. I'm not saying that what I'm suggesting everyone has to do or similar, it's just an alternative to what O.P was asking in his/her post 👍

Bought a few bit from Matt at Fish Eye, good bloke 😁

That maybe true or not . But the company has a good reputation. And offered a solution to a problem I had . I'm a total technophobe and have no idea about such things. But what sold it for me was the built in power pack so I could charge it at home and not worry about taking leads and a charger to the bank. So I'm guessing it's a bit more than an antenna if I cracked it open . How much are the ridgemonkey powers packs. .I'm sure home made versions could be made much cheaper . However they have still sold ridgemonkey by the thousands. The point is it's up to the individual how he spends his money and if he thinks he's got good value or not. Not some random from the internet .👍

A quick google search brings up a few results, some on Youtube, as does searching the forum, personally I have the 1 from Matt at Fisheye.
As your keen on price custom made may not be a option
