Years ago I saw some bloke on eBay flogging blue pop ups called Winter Blues. I bought some out of curiosity just to see. On receiving them I crumbled a couple to see what they were made of and as I suspected they were Polaris mix, dyed blue. The flavour though was mixed spice,lots of mace, cloves star anise etc etc and smelt like Christmas type puddings..
Fished them one winter night on one rod and caught one of the biggest fish on the lake. Baited up another rod with them and caught on that rod. Had quite a few fish on the overnighter on a reasonably difficult water and everyone came to these baits. Never managed to contact the bloke again and tried to replicate them. Never worked like the originals so don’t know if it was a fluke or I let the best ever bait slip through my fingers 
Edit: Just noticed it’s an old thread. Saw it being looked at in the ‘who’s on line section’ and posted.
Still, it’s an interesting subject so I won’t delete it.

Yep, no different from any other colour - make my own pop ups and hook baits, always have. A nice bright blue work just fine, was using that colour 25 years ago and still do - seems (he says) more effective in colder water, no idea why.

I’ve used the mullberry ones and they are very good and also heard good things about the peanut and strawberry ones. A few people on my local lakes have been doing well on them so would use any with confidence

High Performance Hookbaits ?
Which of there baits have you used. They look great, everyone is perfectly rolled. Ive seen em but not used em myself. Be interested to hear what you thought before I order some.

Caught on some "smurf blue" colour baits, however going either side of that, washed out, ala "man city blue" or more dark like "chelsea blue" got not a sniff. (not trying to be funny, just don't know the technical names for the colours ) - using insoluble pigments was necessary as once washed out again the results dropped. having said that, red, orange, pink, yellow, white and black all outperformed it, to my eyes. same recipe too kept very simple to test colours
Really weird.
And yes sticky baits did produce a blue cheese and onion pop up, I believe it was onion oil and butyiric acid plus a cheese flavour? also it's still owned by the Andersons of erics angling, Sam sold it to his brother Tom who grew it massively into the company it is now.

High Performance hookbaits are selling a blue pop up. Blackcurrant. not sure how effective they are as ive not used them but theyve recently come up on my social media pages.

We used to dye chick peas blue and used to do well on it.
I did try some home made NS1 blues a few years back and compared to white NS1's it didn't do well.
I was.told blue is more effective in deeper water, but I don't know if this is true.

🤣🤣 I stopped the experiment when my dog ate a large amount of freshly rolled baits and was crapping blue for a week

Blue is the one that has the highest contrast underwater due to the short wavelengths penetrating deeper into the water. In general, the other side of the spectrum is more visual for the carp since their eyesight is the most sensitive for wavelengths at the range of 600 - 650nm (orange-red)

I remember Frank warrick said something similar. They are just difficult to sell because they don't look carpy, people are never convinced.

I’m sure there was a test done years ago in CW that showed Blue was the most attractive colour to carp .....

Yep!
I made some blue boilies using standard food colouring. Interesting result in that I could see the fish were crapping it out on the mat when others using the same uncoloured version weren't catching as much.
I stopped the experiment when my dog ate a large amount of freshly rolled baits and was crapping blue for a week

The old Richworth Blue Cheese was a yellow bait if I remember rightly.
Used to love that bait. Blue Cheese 18mm with a snowman with Richworth Birdfood Blend as the topper. Happy days those were!

Think years ago Sticky Baits before it was sold also did a cheese and onion pop up that was blue
