Nobody has got a good word for anybody and everybody is a ****. Years ago, let's say the 80's you would have a fight and sort out your differences, now it's just a complete joke and that's cyber space for you, he said, she said. Not to mention kids worrying themselves to death, ****ing pathetic. Ganging up and bullying. There will be some SERIOUS psychological problems in the future sadly, it's turning into a crazy world. How long before we can't look each other in the eye and have a conversation without using buttons ffs!!!

That's not news. I think the basic theme of those neolithic cave paintings found in France years ago was more or less "kids of today, they've got no chance".

Spot on , every generation belittles the next , i'm just glad i'm not a teenager now though as it was hard enough in the 80's , poor sods , buying a house , even getting a job soon , it's going to be tough , young lads i know through cricket are no different than my generation ! give em a brake !

I'd hate to be a kid leaving school in this climate. They're going to become pawns in the politics of 'recovery'. Shades of some of the worst of the old YTS schemes I think. It's all about shifting numbers so that the 'unemployed' figures don't spike. Call me cynical if you want, but short term plasters over gaping wounds aren't going to work.

a lot of what Sunak has announced today are short term sweeteners. 'Kicking the can down the road'?
The kickstart idea will likely see a lot of companies paying lipservice to providing for young workers, in the same way the recent apprenticeship schemes have. Companies get the funding provided to them from the schemes - maybe even give youngsters a go for a spell after the scheme ends (but not always) - and then when cuts need to be made, it's the same youngster who are first out of the door.
As I said - it's government shifting bodies around to hide the truth of unemployment which is going to have an inevitable rise post lockdown / furlough.

It's so easy to criticise but not so easy to come up with a solution.

I get your point and agree - we could have heard a lot worse today.
I guess my point is that the 'lot worse' that we maybe could / should have heard today is the truth of what the country is facing. It's not pretty and maybe a bit brutal, but maybe it was time to just hold hands up and say 'we are facing unprecedented challenges and the sh*t that comes with it' - rather than use the youth as a distraction / pawns in political shenanigans
