Again, having to work harder to get equality isn't equality is it

What's equal about one person having to work 3x as hard to get the same opportunities. Honestly can't make it up how you don't understand what equality actually is

It's called life, and that how it is in most places of the world. Compared to others we are in an exceptional position, you need to remember and respect this. Life is what you make it flowerpot

Just teaching the ‘good' bits isn't really teaching history though is it. Look when Churchill got racist sprayed on his statue. Everyone saying it isn't true. Well it was, they were just uneducated because of the curriculum not teaching them about their own heritage and the basis of their own society. Happy to teach the kids about other people's atrocities though. Maybe people would actually understand why there are people of other ethnic groups in this country if they learnt about the empire and subsequent commonwealth.

Like I said earlier, you may believe in individualism as a cure for all ills but society is changing. Even Johnson recently acknowledged "there really is such a thing as society" during this COVID-19 lockdown, quite a slap in the face for Thatcherite's.

Greekski, we had this the other day and it wasn't really about democracy, I was hoping you'd realise. It was about how difficult it is to choose which bits you teach. There's better things to be taught about in school's as Noj says. If you have the inclination it's something to do in your own time

So you don't want equality then. Part of the issue then aren't you. I feel sad for you tbh that that's how you view life ”if you're disadvantaged then screw you, work harder than others to get the same thing when you shouldn't have to”

Suppose you think paraplegics should crawl up stairs instead of getting ramps for wheelchairs too

Do you feel victimised in life, you sound like a very bitter person?

You need to read and more importantly understand my previous posts, it's a fact that some people have it and some do not and until everybody gets an opportunity such as a job there always will be, as I said earlier flowerpot, there ain't enough jobs, what should we do?

Bang on about history what we cannot change only learn from

That's what I'm saying, don't teach of any atrocities until the emotional maturity and required time are available. We were made to watch roots at school, what did it achieve? Caused huge fights between black and white kids!
Also a lot of these historic ‘racists‘ can be just as easily labelled as ‘of the time'.
I'm not condoning it but how far do we go? You said yourself equality won't happen overnight and these people were X years behind us and we are essentially nowhere in the struggle

I get it but when you don't teach people about their own history and cultures and will teach them other countries atrocities it's purely a case of hiding it.

To be perfectly honest I think there should be an entire overhaul of the education system. Not everyone is academic and they should be catered for. Goes back to some of the stuff scozza mentions, lack of ambition because they don't want to do academic based learning? Or maybe give them some tools and they'd love it.
Offering trades and other opportunities as part of GCSEs would really keep more kids in school as they won't feel worthless like the current system makes them feel. Give the kids an opportunity to do something they are interested in and they'll enjoy it more, and work harder to get the basic GCSE maths, English and science.

You're saying the same thing over and over. We all get it. You believe that people have to work as hard as they need to get an equal opportunity. One person that might be hardly at all due to circumstances, others it might be every second of their life. You believe that is fair and right. You don't believe in discriminated against people getting to have equal opportunity, they have to work harder.

Why do I sound victimised? Because I can see inequality and not ignore it and want better for the world?
I feel sad for people that discriminate and victimise people. I've been racially discriminated against loads in my life, despite being born here. Am I bitter? No it never bothered me too much.

Plenty of jobs out there, have you been on recruitment websites? Literally hundreds of thousands. Or at least there was before the pandemic. Ups kill people and get them in work. Simple as that.

Not everyone is academic and they should be catered for.

Now we are talking

I agree. In such circumstances there should be much more hands on and skills based opportunities but they still have to go through the basic schooling practices sadly. Academic qualifications are not the be and end all but until companies still benchmark with them that's where we are sadly

For me practical experience is everything

Agree. This is something they could look into

I think the sad thing in a way is kids don't get it. At school, next thing, 16 and out on their arses and expected to crack on in life, difficult times for them, they don't really know what they want to do. I speak from first hand experience with my daughter

Not teachers, they have their pressures so they don't get sacked. Curriculum yeah, it's set and kids learn what they are taught. I don't know about you but in school I learnt of the Romans, Wild West, colonisation of America, Saxons, medieval Britain, ww1, WW2, British history (with the empire removed from it of course), Vietnam war, Ireland and probably a few things I've forgotten. I learnt about plenty of bad things, but not the empire. Funny that Plenty of my friends that didn't study off their own back now; hate Germans, hate the French, hate the Argentines, don't understand why there are lots of Indian and Caribbean people here, don't know what the Boer war was and most of all believe Britain has never set a foot wrong in its history.

To me, that is not right. And it's what creates a society which doesn't tolerate and allows low key racism to exist. The causal racist. Like Dean Cowell, banned again for racial comments towards me on a thread I wasn't even involved in.

See, we do actually agree it's just the way of getting there. Schools put so much emphasis on going to sixth form, if your aren't they don't really offer much support sadly. You let a non academic kid do an NVQ in a trade and they will apply themselves to the basics quals for math, English and science. Because they are happier.

Me, I was lucky that I knew what I wanted to do from a young age and I chose my GSCEs at 14 to set me on that path for the subsequent A levels for my degree. I was one of the very few that knew. The pressure on 13/14yr olds to define the course of their life by picking GSCEs is insane imo.
