Staggering, isn't it, that life expectancy has continued to increase the world over despite 'big pharma'.
They develop medicines which increase the quality of life for billions, and make a profit. What's so wrong with that? Don't like it? No problem - Crack on in the woods with your pestle and mortar and leave the NHS in peace.
If you're offered a vaccine and turn it down, then you should be offered Covid treatment equal to the value of the vaccine you've declined if you contract it. I reckon that would be 2 ambulance crew taking about six paces towards their vehicle then turning around, let alone getting in it and starting the engine.

I'm exercising my human rights to not take a vaccine that could save my life, stop me from infecting others and thereby protecting their lives and saving important NHS resources all at the same time... because Facebook frank said that big pharmacy is controlling my life and wants to make my sperm full of nanobots who will grow up to take over the world

When i listen to anti vaxxers and their arguments against vaccines , i would put them in the same bracket as flat earthers
Some of the people employed by big pharma companies are the scum of the earth and create misery for millions just for a few $$$, well a few billion $$$ ,as proved time and time again ,one of the worse recent cases for me was the opiate /opioid crisis here and America , millions of addicts created for a few quid , these people are not your mates , the world is desperate for a vaccine , i will definitely take it but would like the tests to be a bit longer and a few more peer reviews completed first , but , i suppose if i was on the "at risk " list , i would be more than happy to have it

I used to work for a company that spent 15 billion a year on R&D, not to mention the crazy wages paid to 1000's of some of the best professionals in the world and 5 - 10 years product development before release, not to mention the reverse chemistry and blockers to stop people copying it, and not to mention the ones that don't make it
Take some paying back that lot, that does not include the multi, multi million pound manufacturing plants and overheads around the world. So big investment, so you can expect some big returns required
I think your problem could be the greedy shareholders, the investors required to make this happen who want a return on their investment, that's business I guess?
I can really appreciate people's frustrations though when some of the medication costs around £5k a pop
The good news is for us mere mortals it is FREE on the NHS while it lasts!!!
Maybe the government should own the R&D, manufacturing plants and pay for this lot too?

Once a company applies for a new drug license and it's granted they're given a 10 year exclusivity on the manufacture of the product. So you've got 10 years to make all your money back and make a profit, before it can be produced by anyone in China/India etc and given a generic name. Hence high prices for some treatments.

It's for our benefit though G, otherwise some third world Mickey Mouse outfit would step in. They create a lot of jobs so I can see why they get the support
