Let's hope England can restore some pride this next test. 3-2 overall sounds better than 5-0 which is way it'shheading since last few tests.
Well that was a better day...just Haddin to get rid of now. Do that first thing to establish a 1st innings lead of at least 50, then bat all day for 250 or so (wishful thinking???) and then we can win this one!

Well it was a solid reasonable expectation. Just 1 problem. We look devoid of any real fight in us. I couldnt sleep so watched a bit. Went to bed at 65-1, Cook had just gone. Carnerry on 6 from 63 i tink it was, WTF by the way. Wake upto 179 ao. Disgrace. Absolute disgrce. Nearly put a fiver on 5-0 when we lost the second test heavily. Could of softened the blow of yet another whitewash just a little.

Our batting has let us down this series. Our bowlers managed to paper over the batting cracks in the last few series. Seems the confidence/ form has gone of all of our batsmen at once. Let's hope they can restore some pride in the last test.

Our batsmen _ KP apart - are clearly ****ting themselves when they have to face MJ. Time to dig 'em up and get Cowdrey and Close out there. It's not too late to collect a few posthumous bruises!

Very true Ken... Our lower order walk out to bat with brown stains in their pants and would much prefer to stand by the umpire when MJ is bowling. Just look at what he has done to broady! He really has lost his bottle for the fight when it comes to batting.
I've been privileged to have faced that sort of pace in my younger days and yes it's not pleasant but these guys train every day with it. Another thing is England took 3 tall fast bowlers who did nothing but carry drinks!!! yes they may be erratic but why not just let them loose?

I am old enough, sadly, to remember Brian Close facing the "whispering death" (Michael Holding). He must have been in his mid-to late-40s, went out without arm guard, chest protection or even a helmet and just stood there and let the bouncers hit him...
And Colin Cowdrey facing Hall and Griffiths with his left arm in a cast, it having been broken earlier in the Lords test of - I think - 1963. They don't make them like that any more

Cowdrey was subjected to a hail of abuse, both verbally and with the ball by Lillie and Thompson but he still showed real grit and determination despite being battered and bruised by the Aussie quicks.
The story goes that when he first faced Lillie, finding himself at the umpire's end from which DL was bowling, held out his hand to DL and introduced himself along the lines of: Good morning. My name's Colin Cowdrey. It's pleasure to meet you". Lillie's reply - probably apocryphal - was, "**** off, Bunter!

I remember the time Derek Randle doffed his hat to Dennis Lillee when he sent down a barrage of bouncers!! Good old fashioned heart and bottle!
Remember watching a spell from Walsh and Ambrose in their prime they just terrified teams. Tall and quick and accurate. Unplayable at times. Don't think our tall quicks are in that class yet. But height pace and bounce could rattle the Aussies.
Carlos.... Do you remember Ambroses first ball at Edgbaston? I think the year was 1995? He bowled that bouncer which flew!!! The test lasted 3 days and we got blown away!! I remember Smith getting one flush on the jaw off Bishop! How he was still standing i'll never know 
I certainly do! Ambroses eyes used to scare me let alone facing a delivery from him!!

Don't care if the water carriers are erratic, just as long as they scare the **** out of one or two Aussies, maybe clout one or two of them under the chin to boot!

I keep wicket, and it's great fun when you get real quicks bowling, we had a south African u19 there his year, as well as occasionally the Overton twins - they grew up at the club I'm at. Taking the ball head high when you are standing 20yds back is fun, facing them bowling medium pace off a couple of yards in the nets isn't! Glad I don't play 1st team stuff when they really run in, and I'm not ashamed to say it!
