What if they speak better English than German or French or Greek or Italian? What if they have familial ties here that would enable them to better carve out a new life for themselves as they escape whatever horrors they have been forced to leave?
If I had to leave here I'd be trying to go somewhere I'd feel most comfortable I'd be able to rebuild and contribute, wouldn't you?

I politely say don't think we're going to agree on much here.
Point 1 seems to suggest they come here for revenge. Maybe that's true but we must try to protect ourselves from such people.
Point 2 and 3 can be overcome by toughening our welfare systems so only the genuinely needy get benefits and those who are not genuine asylum seekers get nothing except refused entry. And those that are genuine asylum are treated fairly but not given preferential treatment over and above our own needy people. You may argue that doesn't happen but that's the perception of many and if true needs addressing.
Point 4. Sounds to me a country that takes pride in itself which is only natural but to be honest I hear more people saying we're **** and getting worse rather than saying we're great.

Depends on how desperate I was to flee a country. My main concern in that position would be to keep safe rather than illegally travel 1000's of miles to cherry pick the UK
Sorry but I think a good proportion are not genuine asylum seekers and could be economic migrants.
I know others may have differing views but I really must be going to bed soon.

Point 1 I just meant that if someone bombs the granny out your country you're more likely to go there to get a new life because you probably think they owe you it and you know they'll likely accept you and give you a fair bit. Revenge may be one reason but I meant it as “take away my life then you can give me a new one” type thing. Reparations if you want to call it that.

but just for balance sake, asylum seeker does not equal terrorist
Does this not go back to what we have talked about already?
They want to come into this country or others for a better life. The problem is, a lot have no education or the relevant skills to make a contribution so as well as the lazy white folks (pardon the racist pun) there are then these. If they can't make a contribution then there is absolutely no point in being here, another group sat on their areas all day looking to blame society for their problems. Vulnerable people really, very easy to condition and manipulate
Saw the banners on the news again last night. Black lives matter we need jobs and houses

There opportunity's for all in good old England town. Think I might apply for Boris's job . I think that statement “you live in this country so you should be prepared to fight for it” only really applies if the country is under threat or being invaded. Personally I feel sorry for the dead servicemen that have fought in the Middle East. They aren't protecting this country. It's ironic though isn't it that the same statement is used for those out troops are fighting against yet we are saying “how can they fight against us, we just want what we think is best for them”.... they are protecting their country from actual invasion. Not doing the invading.

And someone seeking asylum is not the same as a lazy git who did feck all at school and just wants to watch daytime tv all day. A 'better life' is relative. Better than living in the rubble that used to be your family home with no water or electricity because the good old US / UK troops bombed the country you live in? Or because they preach about democracy and human rights while allowing millions of people to be displaced in their own country?
Asylum seekers are not terrorists. Take a look at the camps they find themselves in. Take a look at what they are fleeing from ffs. The huge majority of these people have had their lives obliterated. They didn't see good old England on TVs and think 'I know, I'll get the kids, leave everything I've ever owned and people I love, and set off walking to see if I can get a council house'.
It's a humanitarian disgrace and those countries that can help, SHOULD help. It's basic human kindness. Now that is simple.

This might come as a shock to you but wars between democracies are very rare. You say Britain leaving democracy as a legacy is "nothing to be proud of". How many of those countries have ditched it under self rule? Like I've said best leave it to those that understand it.

Might be an idea to view them as people who have gotten off their arses to an extent almost unimaginable to the British in order to make a better life for themselves and their families, and acknowledge their determination and courage rather than immediately view them with suspicion ... and doubt.
