well done all involved - after the call for the 'football lads' last week this was a simple and respectful gesture in contrast

Does this really help the BLM cause or does it actually do the complete opposite. If you're already onboard then it's easy to dismiss but if you're trying to convince other people that are indifferent does this help?
As I mix with a lot of Joe Averages I can tell you this turns many of them off.

Agreed I can do that and will but I know people who it will aggravate, they aren't anti BLM but they will not be encouraged.
Said it before this thread is made up of a small mostly strong opinionated people there's a whole wide world out of people out there.
Dismiss these type of reports at your peril.

Some people will use things like this as an excuse to dismiss the positive movement. Hopefully most will just see it a s a silly distraction from something important.

I thought the football got it right last night. 10 seconds of respectful support hurts no-one and sends a message for those who feel strongly in favour.

There are small steps happening still - the Oxford college with the statue of Rhodes has had a vote and decided to take the statue down. No violence or vandalism but instead voices being listened to.

I'm staying positive - of course!

Hi Mal

Rhodes

Positive that it was decided on in the right way and with due process, although i think it was a biased board towards the left, But that is the way to do it! Not ropes, spraypaint and angry mobs.

But to take this step they must venture down the path refusing scholarships, patronages, bursaries and financial support from the Rhodes or other dubious legacies. I don't see Bill Clinton commenting on his scholarship funded by Rhodes!

I cant believe that children still have coco pops, FFS chocolate for breakfast should be outlawed!

Football got it right with the knee but not with BLM on the back of the shirts. IMHO.

I reckon you're right Bob.

Whereas the only logical conclusion having read the article should be 'Fiona Onasanya is a bit desperate for attention and a bit of an idiot', plenty of knuckle draggers will take it as excuse to rubbish the whole BLM movement.

See also BS like 'You can't say Christmas nowadays', 'You get arrested for flying the flag of St George', blah blah blah.

Hiya fishie

Hope all is good with you and your dad is doing well

Maybe a left biased board? who knows? Thing with Rhodes is they changed the name of a country to redress the colonial balance so maybe the statue is something that should have been addressed a long time ago... As for the bursaries..? Well a thread has been pulled and things will unravel - some joined up thinking on that could become another positive action. Maybe use that funding for school projects in Africa. I sponsor a little girl's schooling in Malawi for a lot less per month than an Oxford scholoarship...

With many of the statues, there have been petitions and requests that have been met with 'we will look into it' for years now. If the current movement finally gets people to finally stop looking into it and take some action then I'm all for it - as you say, in the right way rather than a criminal one.

I like that the players were prepared to let their shirts carry a positive message rather than their own names. It's for 1 game and it doesn't hurt anyone. I imagine some of them would be happy to keep it that way indefinitely. As we've seen with Marcus Rashford this week, they carry huge influence and we all know that racism in football is still a nasty problem. Doing it now in empty stadiums means the message can get out without it risking the idiot brigade in the stands boiling over I guess.

Caught anything yet?

Have a good day man
