The problem we've got is that wearing a mask is an inconvenience to some. Those who don't wear one only care about themselves it seems.
Wearing a mask is a social benefit, it benefits the wider community. The more people who wear masks the lower the infection rate and the sooner we return to normal. Sadly we live in a country of me, me, me. Selfish whinging twonks whining about how it's such a hard ship. These are the same people that clapped the nhs staff but will turn a blind eye when nurses are excluded from the payrises and made to pay up to £70 a day to park at their job.
It's simple really, wear a mask, potentially save a life.

I hope anyone reading my posts don't get the impression that I won't wear a mask or take into account anyone's uneasiness, that's not the case. I'm just offering up an opinion for whatever that's worth.
I do find myself thinking, how long is this going to go on for, you know? Like I mentioned in a post in reply to your post in respect to the person coughing in a tackle shop. The reason I mentioned I replied like I did was just the hint of someone displaying signs of a cold could well have people running for the hills.
I won't downplay Covid, I know someone who supposedly died of Covid (stage 4 cancer bloke) I'm generally questioning where we are right now with the ongoing response to it. I'll throw my hands up and admit that I'm deeply cynical - generally speaking - and highly sceptical of the numbers; aside from the crazies/nutters some well researched analysis of the numbers shows that things are not what we've been lead to believe... meaning, just as a for instance my cancer mate.

I agree with this entirely, badly handled from the start.
I think the first recognised and tested hospitalised case of Coronavirus was on 24th January. That will not be the first Coronavirus case in the country. China finally admitted a problem in late November or December. Flights from China should have been stopped, instead they were still coming in until lockdown in March.
Our 14day self isolation for incoming passengers, was originally 7 days in the early days of isolation.
Surgical masks, face coverings DO NOT prevent you catching coronavirus, they prevent you passing it on.
They do stop you passing it on, by catching your sneezing or coughing in the mask, although when wet from moisture will allow them into the environment.
However, as habit, I cover my face with a handkerchief, tissue or napkin when I sneeze, preventing that going into the air. I cover my mouth when I cough.
The tiny aerosol particles can get through a mask, even more so a damp breath ridden one, unless the mask is rated as Biological and Chemical. It would need to be worn in conjunction with eye covering, visor or safety glasses.
When I was having one of my PTSD counselling sessions a couple of weeks ago my counsellor recommended I download an exemption certificate, with some of my notes and their address.
I have not had any problems going into shops. My local co-op all know I suffer with Autism and PTSD, no-one asked when I did my grocery shop in Sainsbury's, and when I filled up at the petrol station, and had my Exemption certificate handy, the young lady behind the counter said "I can't enforce mask wearing, I do not know if you are disabled and exempt, and I don't want confrontation, that is £31.80 please"

The way I see it is initially we didnt EVEN have enough for our hospital staff and doctors to wear ? so all these muppets bleating on about we should have worn masks from the start
2 reasons
1. we didnt have anywhere near enough masks
2 . medical advice THEN was it wasnt that effective
Flawed logic imo Gerry. We are not mandated to wear masks, we are mandated to wear face coverings. There was never any shortage of scarves, snoods, et etc.
As for medical advice saying it wasn't effective, but now it is? I think that says a lot about our experts tbh. If they needed data from other countries to prove that face coverings help limit the spread of a virus that is transmitted through respiratory droplets then we are in a lot more trouble than I thought.
Imho the advice from the government has been all over the place right from the start, and continues to be all over the place. Of course it's easy to say that with the benefit of hindsight but we continue to see it imo.

Got to the counter and asked the shop assistant if she could guess who i was. Said she didn't know and asked if I'd give her a clue ‘so I burped' and she still didn't get it until I told her I was Dick Burpin.
Get a grip people ....try living herein Spain we have to wear masks the moment we leave our properties and the only time we can take them off is when driving alone in the car or at the beach or in a bar when eating or drinking at the moment its 38C and believe me its uncomfortable to say the least but its the law ( imagine wearing one all day at work outside in this heat )...and we are on the verge of going back into lockdown ( my neighbouring municipality has gone back into it ) and we will probably do it as well in the next 2 days or so because people did not obey the law about wearing masks and we have had massive spikes in cases of covid_19 ...so when i read about people in the UK moaning about having to wear one in a shop FFS

I see one, maybe 2 guys on this thread "moaning". One questioned their usefulness and the other said it's "annoying" having to wear one (but wears one anyway). The huge majority are arguing in their favour with some saying we should have been doing it for much longer. Hardly grounds for that post surely?
There are spikes/lockdowns all over the world, including the UK (Leics, Barnsley, Bradford etc). You're not alone mate.

"dubious virus" or more accurately COVID 19(Coronavirus Strain) has no effective treatment, no vaccine & no antibodies.
pandemics are beaten with collective effort, your decision not to wear a mark could/can inadvertently mean you can 1. catch the virus, 2. spread the virus. Your actions do not only affect you and as such your decision not too wear a mask is selfish & reckless.
personally i think a fine of a £1000 should be placed on anyone not following guidance as it is them whom are costing the tax payer more money as a result of their actions.

What an odd post
Seeing as there's thousands of British people that have died, still over 9 million British people furloughed, over 2 million self employed British people on government pay schemes and 3 million British people on the dole of some description. Lawyers applying for bar work, X number abroad facing self isolation on Universal credit when they get back and second waves of the virus spiking in many countries. Yes another, but on possible prevention of the spread of the virus, no joy though.
