Bit of an anti-climax really
When was the last time England won the first test of a series abroad?

And on to Friday at the same ground.
Can't see Sri Lanka fall over like they did in !st innings so could be a tighter game.
Having said that Moeen Ali will come in I'm sure maybe for Wood or Curran.

Apparently Ali has said he isn't fit enough also they reckon Anderson in for Broad and possibly Stone in for Wood.

Another cracking knock from Root ably supported by Butler and Bess.
The last three wickets must give Sri Lanka hope anything over 150 will be a struggle on the last day
as the pitch starts to break up.
Englands spin bowlers need to get some consistency in line and length to put pressure on the batsmen.
Jimmy Anderson nuff said Wood bowled his heart out as well.
Might as well open with Bairstow and Root cos Sibley and Crawley are walking wickets against the left arm spin.
Can still go anyway got to love Test cricket. If i was a betting man my money would be on Sri Lanka.

One session into the day and I don't think you'll be backing SL to win!
Awful batting from them this morning

Agreed woeful 9th wicket partneship gives them hope but England now chasing 164 on a 4th day wicket
as opposed 200+ on a 5th day wicket.
Crawley gone 17-1 game on.

That knock gave them a chance but they'll have to get root out sharpish, he's in imperious form right now. It'd be nice to see him get a little 50*
Hopefully sibley can stick around for a bit, I thought burns had made a mistake missing this tour but his standing has gone up in his absence

Roots just gone with 80 still required Sibley battling away but looks like he could get out anytime.
Agree on Burns.

Well done Sibley grafted for three hours could've been given leg before a few times but he stuck to it. Buttler was sublime. Sri Lanka for me had this game in their hands but threw it away with another poor batting performance.
Well done England and Root's batting made it look easy out there.

I guess bairstow will be at three in India. Buttlers keeping has been tidy but he's only gonna play the 1st test apparently.
I'd hope to see stokes and moeen in India, and find room for foakes as his keeping could make the difference against better opposition

Foakes is in for the 2nd test onwards and Bairstow is being rested.
