I'd say it was unbelievable but unfortunately....

I did hear that the BNP were criticising PG Tips for exploiting black actors in their old adverts...

Compared to the rest of the forum these type of threads only attract a small audience and the people on here generally have strong opinions.
Just because people don't have strong opinions doesn't necessarily make them idiots, stupid or ignorant but as I mix with people (maybe you do as well?) whom the majority don't have strong opinions I'm picking up that these steps are accelerating far too quickly for most. Now because most of you write eloquently on here you'll be able to come back and dismiss all of this but as they are not on this forum it won't be heard.

Don't leave people behind and alienate those you want on your side

I'm not scared but think my children should be!

It starts with street names, then statues, then programs......it's a complete over reaction IMO. Like I said, once you go down this route of trying to undo history rather than the learns from it it's a slippery slope.

Mock as much as you like Mal, you have an opinion and I have mine doesn't mean either of us are right......

Much white music especially rock music has roots going back to the blues so maybe that's MOBO?

A slippery slope to what? Admitting that plenty of people from history were involved in questionable actions and had ideas that would be unacceptable nowadays? Sounds terrifying.

If that statue in Bristol had a plaque explaining who he was and what he did, then no-one would have thought of pulling it down. As it was, the local council refused to put any such sign up.

we're on the slippery slope to a fairer society... woooahhh..... watch out everyone!

the MOBO's haven't happened since 2017 but were due to return this year. probably not now with C-19 etc. no good reason not to have them next year if gigs etc. are allowed again

the awards were set up to promote black and urban artists who were more often than not, on independent and smaller labels that weren't considered for the BRIT's who only selected artists from a predetermined selection of labels (the British Record Industry Trust - hence the acronym). In much the same way, there are the NME awards for 'Indie' bands and the Kerrang awards for rock / metal etc. They all saw an imbalance in the popular music awards and set out to redress it in their own way.

tinhead - another good point. Robert Plant has talked a lot about the influence of the old blues artists on Led Zep. Not sure if white appropriation equals black origin though...

we're on the slippery slope to a fairer society.

Only if you initially think its unfair now.......

I know what and why the MOBO was created, My question was would it be acceptable to name an event MOWO.....

You just look like you're desperately trying to find something that you can use to paint yourself as a victim.

Is the acceptability or otherwise of a music category that doesn't exist but you've invented the best you can do?
