Them Curran boys must make a banging cup of tea

Interesting call bringing Overton in for woakes. It weakens the batting and I'm not sure old Trafford is the pitch where his extra height would make the difference. I would have thought s Curran or Gregory would be the more likely replacements.

Hopefully the denly Roy switch works, I just can't see it somehow

Agree with you regards Roy funny thing is though he would probably be ok in Oz conditions with a Kookaburra but
with a Dukes in our conditions he will struggle. Even at 4 he will then have to cope with Lyon. Would love to see him get a score though.

Roy and ballance in for away tours only

There certainly seems to be a lack of flexibility when it comes to the batting in different conditions, a lot is made of our middle order and tail, but their batting averages tell a different story. Bairstow and buttler are excellent players on their day, but they seem to have real hot streaks between long ruts. It's a real shame foakes hasn't found form this year, but would he have scored less than the other two keepers? There have been a few keeper errors in this series I wouldn't expect from him, and some of stumping he's made this season for surrey have been ridiculous! He's also the only England batsman besides root with an average over 40.

Hopefully after I've said that bairstow makes 5 catches and 3 stumpings this morning and a 200 partnership with buttler tomorrow

Smith looked really unsettled against Curran, I'd guess a bit of mental fatigue set in and woakes reaped the reward.

Hopefully sibley, pope and northeast get a chance on the nz tour, its time for Johnny to take a break too, either give buttler the gloves or get foakes back.

I'd love to see burns or stokes go big tomorrow, just to get closer to smiths total

Trouble is that County Championship is played at start and end of season when conditions are best for bowlers and the best part of summer is used for pyjama cricket so no one else gets a chance to score a hatful of runs and stake a claim.

Indeed, it makes it difficult to pick someone in a rich vein of form. I keep hearing on tms, talks port and sky about how weak the batting is in the championship and I disagree. The batsmen who can average 50 plus over a season, on bowler friendly pitches, in bowler friendly conditions should be looked at, and should be putting pressure on those in the England squad.
Instead we'll probably have another look at ballance or vince.

The aussie had too many batsmen not scoring so pulled the bloke who was scoring a ton of runs in the championship into the team

I'll be interested to see where hameed ends up, I still don't get what happened to him.

Agree he looked a natural for Test cricket and still young enough.

The squad for new Zealand is announced today, it'll be interesting to see if the likes of Gregory, hain and northeast get a look in, I think sibley and pope are nailed on anyway.

Surely silverwood is the outstanding choice for the new coach, or will he be overlooked for being english

It's a shame this last round of matches doest finish on Sunday, especially with a title decider, how can you convince the young prospects that red ball cricket is the epitome when they're playing in front of 4 men and a dog compared to full houses for the t20 games?

Exactly and its raining.

Interesting selections but what happens if they have a blinding two test series against NZ do they
stay in for SA?

It's a strange one dropping bairstow days after giving him a central contract, even stranger to not take another keeper, hopefully that gives foakes a bit of a nudge, he's had a poor year with the bat. Pope can keep but not at that level from what I've seen. Crawley looks decent but hasn't really pulled up any trees, I guess the coaches wanted a closer look at him and the lancs pair.
For all the talk of an experimental team it looks pretty familiar

Looks like kirsten has got the job, I suppose they'll find another aussie or saffa to take his spot in the hundred

How is the Hundred plus T20 going to improve our test team?

I'll probably go to a game at the oval but tbh, I just don't get the need for it other than financially. Yeah I might decide to go there for an evening match after work, but I'm just as likely to drop in for the last session of a County champ match in summer. I don't even know what the county's will get out of it, with the team at the oval representing Surrey and Kent, how much are Kent going to benefit?

I'd only see a benefit for test cricket if they use a ball that moves, have a slog fest while the balls swinging round corners!
