That is exactly the identity politics driven by the far left, particularly in the US that blame all of society ills on what they call the corrupt, white, western patriarchal society.
Left wing professors brainwash their students in most universities with their ideology and political correctness and try to stifle free speech and no platform speakers and disrupt meetings.

What Colston did was wrong but it was acceptable through that period of time, and the statue being pulled down should have been done through a democratic vote, i'm sure the people of Bristol would have voted for its removal
I don't quite know where JS fits into this but i'm sure we would all be in agreement that we would prefer to forget him, regardless of his charitable work, personally I found him repulsive and completely weird whilst he was alive and long may he rot where ever he is!

Okay, how about a statue of Stalin? We wouldn't have won the war without him. Whatever good deeds Colston did are hugely diminished by his activities in that dreadful episode of our history. Just like Savile's charity work or Stalin's efforts against Hitler, the pain and suffering they meted out destroy their chances of being viewed as anything other than evil.
The statue of Colston went up long after his death and the abolition of slavery. I'm not happy with the way it was removed but I was born and raised in Bristol and I'm very glad to see it gone. A museum and monument to the victims of slavery would be a very good thing. Let's view these slave traders in the context of their contribution to human suffering and not in a position normally reserved for royalty and great military leaders.
Historical figures often have complicated histories. Churchill's leadership in WW2 is worthy of respect but it is tarnished by his history on Ireland and India for example, that's not to excuse defacing his statue but for some people it is complicated. Mother Theresa, Marie Stopes, Gandhi, the list of famous people known for good have some very sketchy skeletons knocking around.

I agree with what you say to an extent but to say with regard to the defacing of Churchill's statue that for some people it is complicated is ridiculous, don't try and say for one minute that the people responsible for that gave a single thought to any of that and it was just a case of wanton vandalism mixed in with a bit of hatred of the powers that be, along with the idiot who was trying to burn the Union flag on the Cenotaph, had it not been for Churchill's resilience, belief and determination during the 2nd world war its highly likely that there would be no Windrush generation, these people just don't seem to realise exactly what previous generations did for them
I'm sorry but I don't see a racist society here in the UK, I see racism just like I see sectarianism in Northern Ireland, homophobia and religious intolerance here etc...but I would never agree that Britain is racist full stop.
I tell you what I see, and that is (on the whole) a tolerant melting pot of many cultures, race and beliefs, albeit it mainly in the large towns and cities, of course there are parts of rural England, Scotland, Wales that remain and always will be predominantly white but that doesn't make them racist, lets face it black and ethic minorities represent just 13% of the population,most people don't judge but this series of events is out of all proportion
