You are probably right it was I think around 2009 Simon opened the shop which closed in 2014.
I was never interested in the barbel their was too much silliness on that stretch.
My best chub came in 2019 long trotting on the pin at 7lb always such a satisfying way of catching the and I never felt under-gunned on light lines with a small 18 wide gape hook lost in their cavernous mouths.
Had a few 6s back in January so I'd say it's still pretty good for chub. Lots of good areas on the common for them now if you don't mind a walk.
The roach though seem to have disappeared there are a lot of jack pike on the stretch also with the odd good double.

Yeah it was a farce some nights around the fair area , we had a few round there ,but also the other way up past the bridge going towards sandy we had some, and that was always quiet up there after about 8pm. Had chub just just under 6lb while barbel fishing. Must admit I'm getting the urge to have a wander up there sometime to see what's about these days
