Well that was a severe drubbing by a team I think we were expected to beat. Unless we get the 1,2 3 in the batting order sorted out before the Ashes starts, we shall be in trouble. Two test to go out in the Windies to start that process. Frankly I'd be calling up Rob Key and begging Tressie to return to the fold!

So denly is in for jennings, and I'd imagine Broad will be in over leach
Looking for a big performance in this match, and hopefully denly can score some runs in the next two tests to cement his place for the ashes, we really don't need any uncertainty over the openers

This England side are a colossal joke. Denly's out in the 1st innings was the worst stroke i think i have ever witnessed in test match history.
England seem more interested in scoring 50 in 10 balls than they are in surviving the first 10 overs of the new ball, then taking it too the bowlers. There is clearly a lack of authority in the team, and to me they need the Sir Alex Ferguson hairdryer treatment. **** the nicely nicely approach, just go in screaming and shouting.
The wicket was bad, but no where near as bad as it was made out imo. England incompetence is more to blame, at this rate we're set to lose the series 3-0, be the laughing stock of test cricket and quite frankly should give Australia the Ashes right now to save the embarrassment of bothering to play them.

We never had much luck today but that's cricket. I had a bet we would bowl them out today. Lost. And broad and Anderson would take 2 wickets each. Lost. Anderson was in a right mood.

I think if Broad and Anderson had got first shot on that wicket things might have been different...That said, the state of the wickets in the WI should never come as a shock to a touring team!
Luckily I don't support those robbing barstewards at Sky so I listen on the steam wireless. Mind you, that doesn't make the torture any easier to bear.

They should sit down and watch Darren Bravo's innings. Grafted for almost six hours for 50 and got hit numerous times
reminded me of Brian Close.
The other big problem is the ECB have ruined the County Championship by playing it at the start and end of season
to accommodate pyjama cricket.

It was a good knock, but with a lot of luck. I was watching England consistently beating the bat, but not getting the edges.
I thought England did really well to adapt to Sri Lankan conditions, which England teams haven't done in the past, but a lot of the techniques they clearly worked hard on for that tour have been their undoing here.
The batting talent pool isnt strong enough currently, look at ollie pope, only a kid and played a handful of games, but gets pulled straight into the England setup and discarded just as quickly. Denly has a decent season at 3 for Kent, not outstanding by any stretch and is identified as the best available opener, meanwhile Jason Roy, a lower order batsman for Surrey scored some decent runs at no3 for the lions. I'll be watching the start of the County season closely, if someone like dom sibley starts well he could be thrown in
The bowling talent pool is a lot healthier, but since 80 for 4 is such a common sight in an England innings no's 789 have to get runs, so some very good bowlers won't get a chance while selection is so muddled.

Dead rubber but a good result ahead of the Ashes to get us into the right frame of mind. Root is class.
