First one was someone who had no real motive but was mentally deranged, do we help or persecute such people.
I can only guess about the other 3 maybe some of it was anti white protests and the media is too frightened to make too much of it coupled with it wasn't captured live on news. I would've thought that CCTV would be available for at least some of them and if so why was there a cover up, maybe it may of caused racial tensions?

and all Police are not bad - I don't know who has said that on here, but that's equally wrong. not all of anyone is bad (well.. the KKK etc. aside of course)
I won't name names but the claims on here of 'the police are institutionally racist' suggests that all police are bad.

Just before I go and to use a saying that I hate, “ some of my best mates are black” we grew up together from the same estate I did. Some are on the dole and some have done better than me. It's about the person not the perceived barriers. It's like fishing some work at it and get results some camp and blank!
Some do struggle with challenges and I won't put myself in their shoes to try to explain, comment or defend the obstacles in their paths. But when you meet an 11 year old whose just joined the local gang for a new pair of trainers and had to complete an initiation of robbing an 80 year old granny of her pension, I feel the community have to shoulder some responsibility for this. He then went onto driving a top of the range Merc at 17 on illicit gains and then dies at 19 by the hand of another gang you have to break that cycle as well!

Little bits at a time, i believe that is how we have got to where we are today? We have made progress.
I look at this country and one of the main driving forces for me is football, kick racism out of football and they have done a lot of promotional work and forced the message. Lets face it, if your a clown sat amongst 70,000 i think you will soon get outed or a good hiding these days

I think there could be confusion here Mal?
I do not think anybody is blatantly denying it, i cannot see evidence of this throughout the thread. We all know its there its just not big on the agenda around me. I dont see many racial insults etc. Cant remember the last time i ever heard one to be honest?

How about American "trailer trash" is that not a racist demarcation for white folk who have nothing. Same position as the back folk sadly. Again, social status. Nothing comes handed on a plate. For me you have had either a good upbringing where the basic fundamentals are installed in you by your parents or you have to fight your way out of it.
Like most things in life, with a lot of people its just far easier to blame everybody else for your personnel circumstances. It sounds hard line, it is not intended that way but everybody in a western world has opportunities and the only way you are going to make something in your life is by trying hard and exploiting them.
The truth is for me, i truly feel for some people who are out of luck and cannot make it happen, that is sad. I have absolutely no sympathy though for anybody who has never tried and just wants to blame everybody else for their circumstances and until we filter these out we will always struggle in defeating most things in life, not just racism

edit - 'trailer trash' doesn't fix a race / colour to it. If it's prefixed with one of those then you could rightly say it's a race slur.
I've pulled up lads and girls at school for insults specifically because they prefix with colour / race. Sharon might be - in someone's opinion - a 'slag', but calling her a 'silly white slag' is another level in the same way that calling David (these are made up names for the sake of example) a 'black w***er' is racially aggressive. He might well be a w***er, but not because of his skin colour. (I have actually used that sentence with a young lad)

I come from mixed race parents, Irish mother and Bangladeshi father but I AM British and there is no one more patriotic than me, I had many a racist comment when I was at school being called 'paki' etc...and got in many fisticuffs over it but that was 45 years ago and I can honestly say I haven't been subjected to or been aware of any form of racism in my adult life, I have always worked and always felt I have been given the same opportunities an anyone else, i'm certainly not scarred by a few silly names I was called over 45 years ago, of course there is racism and always will be but the way its being portrayed is as if society is inherently racist which it clearly isn't....there are a lot black/mixed race ethnic minorities in this country who have done very well for themselves and then again there are a lot of white people who don't get a fair crack of the whip, its about attitude and endeavour, if you work hard and make the effort to get on with people it doesn't matter what your colour is, where I live is admittedly predominantly white but that's not because I decided I want to live in a white area thus making me racist, its because I like the area and oddly enough the nicest house in the street is owned by a hard working Indian family who you couldn't wish to meet nicer people, ive never heard them complain once about racism

Fishie - I'd guess that the VAST majority of the population think the British police do a very good job in difficult circumstances. I don't know why you think everyone hates coppers, you must have spent too much time in the company of criminals.
Somewhere I have a great photo I took in Whitehall in 2002, maximum terror alert, two scary looking police officers with automatic weapons stood in the rain with what looked like a Japanese tourist - a young woman with a small child in a pushchair. It had just started raining hard, and these two coppers were trying, with great difficulty, to work out how to fit the rain cover on the woman's pushchair, which was this big bit of odd shaped clear plastic with press studs and velcro, while she stood there saying 'thank you very much indeed' over and over. Fantastic sight.
I'm not sure the American police have the same level of trust and public confidence.

If the residents of Bristol had a majority to take down that statue then, as they live there, I suppose it would be their choice to do so.
However, it's having been there now, at this time in history, was not a celebration of what he did in the past, it's a piece of history which shows what was considered acceptable behaviour and commerce in the past.
It might be disconcerting and uncomfortable to some to realise that this man, although a slave trader, was at the same time, a generous benefactor to his city, and so much so, that they erected a bronze statue in his honour. We like to think that people like him were evil and without any redeeming qualites. If all the unpleasant and nasty pieces of our history are erased, then they become forgotten and we and future generations don't learn from the mistakes of the past.
