Start practicing what you're preaching, with regards credit in your posts and I will.

Obama tried to lead through bipartisan agreement with a majority of Republicans in Congress. Trump uses gun to the head politics and executive orders whilst having a Democrat Congress. We see the divisive outcomes that brings.

There's different groups of people in this life Mal, idealists (dreamers) and realists. I know which camp we sit in

fair point

idealists try to make the world better

realists recognise that isn't easy

don't forget the defeatists though - who say there's no point trying...

oh and cyclists who just get in the bloody way. Bloody 'eco' travellers!

If you think that's at your expense then so be it but you ought to lighten up a little bit....to put your insecurity at rest I will explain....It was how your post was paraphrased and could be broken down into sections and retold as in Parklife... nothing sinister and I thought it was funny and so did others,

Hi Mal,

I agree with all of your post except one thing. Black lives matter. I would substitute All lives matter and equally so.
Racism is world wide and is found in all races. It's not just a white western trait.
Scozza gave examples of the racism between ethnic minorities. So did Not at his work place.
I've read that in Germany, the immigrants have divided into their ethnic groups and the Africans, Kurds, Afganistanis and Iraqis don't get on together.
Different cultures largely tend to congregate together and form their own communities whatever country they happen to be in. It's human nature at a basic level and only education producing more democratic, sophisticated societies will reduce racism. And that equates to Western societies where the individual is held sovereign. That is the opposite of identity politics, which tribalises society and causes division and racism.
Given a sound family structure and the opportunity of a good education, everyone in the US has a chance to live the ' American dream.' Millions of blacks and minorities have done so and proven the case. So does having had a black president.
That's why I think the main problems for inner city blacks is familial, social and educational.

BB.

My one and only post in this.

Again this has turned into a tit for tat tennis slanging match with no sign in let up.

What are people expecting from all these rallies and marches in a time when the north are asking for lockdowns and no relaxing of restrictions, but won't condemn these large gatherings of people. The seaside trips and trips to the countryside on bank holiday weekends have coincided with a rise in the R rate, so expect a further rise after these protests.

Everyone is aware that what happened is wrong and in no one can deny it happened, but i feel all the positives of the peaceful marches are being negated by angry mobs, mindless violence, criminal damage and the "**** you" attitude from the protesters. I don't care if a statue of a slave trader is ripped down should have been done earlier, but when lives are put in danger by the spreading of the virus it just blows my mind.

So rather than putting down everyone else's cut and paste and links lets hear some solutions and positive ideas to to eliminate racism, perceived racism and proxy racism on someone else's behalf?

This is from a stepfather of a dual heritage daughter and retired copper, but hey ho all police are racists!

Hi Jimmy,

Strange that you would think I need to lighten up and am insecure?
I never suggested it was sinister or anything for that matter.
I had no idea what it meant and was just curious. I didn't want to miss out on the joke if there was one.

Hi BB

of course all lives matter - but in the same way that there was a need for Dr Martin Luther King, there IS a need for the BLM movement.

Racism IS a worldwide problem. But not all ethnicities have been subject to the same levels of discrimination, oppression, slavery...

And no it is not just a white western trait - it's not a trait at all, it's a decision. And not all countries and ethnicities have produced the KKK, NF, Identity Evropa, the Proud Boys, the American Guard.... lots of other white supremacist groups I could name...

It's not human nature to target others out of hatred.

And the 'American Dream' isn't an equal opportunity scheme.

The BLM movement isn't about saying that black lives matter more - just that they should matter as much.

edit - fishie, good post man
