tbh tinhead i can't understand why fans belittle it and some managers/ clubs don't take it seriously i think it's a cracking contest and a good thing to try and win....what's the difference to the uefa cup ???

Only said it because Ralphy belittled us being in it.
After all those years in the Champions league when the Arse went into it my first thoughts were quick put out weakened teams and get out asap then as we got going and a CL place at a stake it became worth playing for.
Only irritation is playing on a Thursday meaning loads of Sunday games.

if anything the Champions league is the one that's changed.... in the past only the champions from each league competed ... now it can be won by a team that finished fourth... whereas the uefa was for runners up so the europa is basically still the same but we've lost the cup winners cup.... there was nothing wrong with any of these comps...only the bigger teams could go out first round meaning less money to be made... that's is the sole purpose of the CL and Europa... to make as much money as possible

Done that when Arsenal beat Anderlecht in the Inter City Fairs cup back in the early 70's.
Was affordable as well as I was still at school and paid entrance with my pocket money.
Remember going onto the pitch at the end and taking a bit of turf.
Wish I had kept the programme

it was a cup based on trade between city's hence arsenal would have represented London...when Leeds won it in 71 the were the last winners... Fifa recognise it as it was the idea of one of their top men but uefa didnt recognise it...if you look at honours won on a uefa listing the fairs cup won't appear . although they took over the running of it in 1971 and it became the uefa cup.

I mean seriously I should be happy to see utd get stuffed but what actual f***? I could beat Everton with my 9 year old daughter in goal.
It might have to be Rodgers and Leicester who take points off them. If they do, he should get a f*****g medal too
