I do miss those Friday nights out in Blackburn....
and scozza - it's a hair 'style' - no chance of it being cut for a very long time....
btw - my Gavin Williamson can **** off campaign is gathering more followers by the day. now includes members of his own party. pretty soon we'll be storming his house with full body armour and leaving annoyed post - its all over his desk / fridge / pets / nan....

Keyworker kids tested negative today Mal. Good thing is they don't make a fuss about it, they just get on and do it. they aren't drama queens
I can't see why more kids can't get tested, go back and get the school opened.

They were offering vouchers for 6 or 12 months I think. So people who for whatever reason don't have the internet get connected and after that free period BT get 1000s stitched up in a contract.
I'm with Mal, **** Gavin.. but these ‘stories' really need to be approached with an open mind. The corporations are as crooked as the cabinet and BT knew they would come out smelling of roses regardless of the offer being taken up or not.

noj makes a really good point (especially when agreeing that Gavin can **** off)
it's hard to see BT doing it for purely altruistic reasons given the way the whole pandemic has been exploited by certain parties (businesses, individuals, politicians, celebrities, the Angling trust....
) Reading the story it does seem that Gavin has made another head in the sand decision that screws over disadvantaged students but that would come as no surprise to me given his track record.
the whole 'give them a laptop' approach reminds me of the 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' when the aliens say that the plans to destroy earth have been there for us to read on a distant planet for ages...
Maybe Gavin came from a house with a suitable quiet space to work in. maybe he had his own bedroom. maybe he wasn't fighting for use of a single laptop with 4 other siblings. There are so many factors that government just seem to be ignorant of.
It sounds churlish to complain about it, but it's another poorly executed plan that doesn't address the gaps in learning opportunity for the most deprived kids in the country.
If anything, it emphasises the gap that has been created by successive government policy and that schools have consistently tried to reduce. One of the key elements of any Ofsted inspection is 'closing the gap' between PP (pupil premium i.e. disadvantaged) students and non PP. Schools spend a lot of time trying to fix a deeply rooted social inequality.
who knows why he said no? maybe his shares are in Virgin broadband instead...
the laptop provision is a good thing in theory - but in practice, for many families, it's like putting a plaster on a cut when they really need a cast for their broken leg.

although it's not the weekly mass testing that Gavin and Boris promised on our behalf. We've about 1500 kids - how many days is it going to take to test them each week and who's teaching / TA supporting the classes while staff are doing it...? Yeah, I know, I'm a drama queen...
