Hi Mal,

No rioting about racism around me? Not yet anyway!

The problem is society like I already mentioned way back in this thread. It's a sad fact that some have it and some don't but in western life there is an opportunity for everybody, they have to want it and do it, for themselves, that's the difference. And most of that inspiration needs to be installed in them by the parents, that's another major flaw

America is in a hole has has been for a long while. How do you control the masses, if you knew you should be president. It's a fact that some will have and some will not and that's where a lot of the underlying unrest comes from, I'm sure the former has a large percentage of ethnic groups and are probably seen as second class citizens by a lot of people because of their circumstances. That's the problem

Take a further step back, look at Africa as a whole, nobody is really interested are they, I don't see much on the news about what goes off over there on a daily basis? The world turns a blind eye other than the Chinese who are buying it out and exploiting their natural resources. What about the immigration crisis in Europe then, this is all because people want a better life, people see this as a threat, because they want what they have, that's one of the main root cause of racism when people are challenged.

If everybody in the world had a 9 - 5, a decent salary and a good lifestyle I am quite sure racism would be a thing of the past because there would be no threats to people. Don't get me wrong you will always get the odd moron but they would stick out like a sore thumb

So you still think having a protest can resolve all this?

And why are people looting, beating up police men, smashing up shops and cars, is this the right thing to do?

Probably anger because of their personal situations and circumstances?

It's a sad fact that racism does exist and there could be many different motives

There's another one though for me and that's playing the race card. Some need to get off their arses and do something about it. What is sad is that the bottom rungs of the ladder are missing for a few, that's a secure household and a good upbringing. People have choices and options though in western society

If you don't challenge racism when you see/hear it then you are part of the problem.
If you deny racism exists absolutely everywhere in the world then you are part of the problem.
If you won't educate yourself on all levels of racism then you are part of the problem.
Racism exists, and so do racism sympathisers.

And for anyone that says “they could just try harder” you need to educate yourself on racism in recruitment (ingrained from racism in society). There's a study from 2016 where identical CVs were sent for the same jobs, with only a different name on, based on heritage of the candidate. BAME named candidates were called for interview less than white named candidates, even though they had the EXACT same level of experience and the EXACT same qualifications. The only reason for not getting a call back was their BAME sounding name. We have laws to protect against this but it still happens.

Why should BAME people try harder to have the same opportunity than white people? They should just be on a level playing field.

Hi Scozza I like your post because rather than just blame others for racism you try to analyse the whole world, why it happens and suggest a few starting points to get on the road to reducing it.

I have stepped in a few times when my black employees have attacked a Bangladeshi worker or vice versa. I was called a racist by the black chap, even though my company paid him sick leave previously' which he was not entitled to.

We dont know if the floyd murder was racist but, the chap didn't deserve to di that way. Racism is rife here and in many countries especially america and lets not forget south africa. Saying that racism gets called a lot, and nearly alway by ethnic minority. Is that because they bleat about it more, or are they subject to more racism than whites. I can tell you for fact, white people are regularly racially abused, yet seem to laugh it off.
Is that the british humour' or they cant be bothered to take it further I wonder.

Look at Lee Rigby' i never thought i'd see the day, when a british soldier would be hacked and beheaded in broad daylight in central london. He wasn't murdered because of race, he was murdered because he was a soldier.
They didn't even put a memorial up for him. So for those who say if it had been a white man, there would be uproar' its not always the case.

If you could see what i've seen with racism, you might also agree it will never go away.
At meal times in one factory, the whites all sit together, the asians sit together and the blacks sit together.
As soon as they are integrated, the trouble starts. On a bigger scale, thats what happen in every day life in countries. The majority do not want to mix, a minority maybe' but the majority will not, because of culture and religion.
These are the issues that will never go away, or put another way racism.

Hi All,

I have two points to make.

I'm told I moan if I feel ' insulted ' when someone disagrees with me.

In reply to Post #129
So who exactly is promoting this racism in their daily lives?
Ooh, ooh, I know Sir! I know! Ask me Sir!
Is the answer '****s like you'?

You decide whether this is an intelligent counter arguement or constructive criticism or abusive nonsense.
Insults don't bother me personally, it's just that you can't debate contentious issues with someone who reduces intelligent discussion to a childish bunfight.

Of course racism and inequality exists all over the world and doesn't just apply to white western civilization.
I follow US politics on line and am aware and sympathize with the social problems that affect inner city black communities, and was pleased to see that some of them were being addressed like the introduction of Charter schools. These problems are manifold and complicated and can't be addressed by the one word answer; racism.
Do your own research and watch the vids I suggested and others by Dr. Ben Carson and Coleman Hughes.
These are all highly intelligent blacks who understand the problems that their communities face.

BB.

Edit.
Scozza, re your post, it seems the rioting and looting is being staged by radicals and criminals, using the large gatherings of peaceful protesters as cover after dark.

Gets a bit emotional our Mal at times. I could quite easily see him and a few others being one of these here rioters when it overflows

Sometimes you have to take emotions out of it, it confuses your thinking, take a step back

I'm not going to get into an argument regarding race etc, I live in an area which is well below some in respect to ethnicity.... I treat people as they treat me, I have some very good friends who are black, I also work along side members of the Sikh community and have a very good relationship with them, what I have seen on the news is many people jumping on the racism band wagon and using it as an excuse to loot and riot just for the sake of looting and rioting, these people could not give two hoots for the man who lost his life, what happened was wrong, not because it was a black man but because it was a human, in fact I would have felt just as enraged if it happened to an animal, there are far too many people these days play the race card, I'll give you a perfect example.... Paul Ince ex England footballer was very vocal when black footballers were being subjected to racists chants etc, and rightly so, he was also very critical of John Terry in the argument over what Terry was meant to have called Anton Ferdinand, yet this was the same Paul Ince who when sent off for England against Sweden by the Italian referee Collina was clearly seen to call him as he marched off a “****ing bald *******”... well many would say “ there's nothing wrong with that is there”, well to me that is just hypocritical of someone playing the race card when to me it's the same difference....back to the current issue, the policeman has been arrested and charged why the rioting ???

Not sure why you replied to me BB. My comments were aimed at everyone in the world not you specifically.

It all boils down to one point. Wealth inequality. And you have to look in to WHY that wealth inequality exists. It was around 80-90 years ago that in America white supremacists burnt prosperous black communities, schools, colleges to the ground and set about murdering black people all because they felt they didn't deserve to be as wealthy or educated than white people. Christ they gave their children the day off school to go and watch a lynching. Black people didn't have the Level of socio-economic issues they have now before those events unfolded. You can say it's a “small minority” that did it. But no one stepped in to stop it...so it was the majority. The wealth inequality was created by the white Americans whether they participated in the horrendous crimes or whether they let us happen. Now we are what, one generation or two down the line? You'll have older aged people who's parents will have been alive during this, passing on all sorts of ideologies, something witnessed in many grandparents (so much anecdotal evidence for this can be found), hell most of my friends tell me how racist their grandparents are in this country.

Something not to be forgotten is that in the 70s/80s here racism was rife. Many of you are old enough to know that, to have grown up around it, to have witnessed it. Many of you may have even been a part of it in some way. 40/50yrs ago you had people in this country attacking someone else because their ancestors spent more time in the sun than theirs did

Some people would call that racist but we all know that's not the case with you, just saying

So what can be done about racism. Telling people not to do it doesn't work so what can be done?
It needs change from both sides black and white but the onus seems mostly to be on the white side.
Rioting won't change anything it will just entrench peoples racist views further.

My guess he will be prosecuted for 2nd degree murder. Cops may of got away with it in the past but I can't see it happening this time.

I've seen the black and white minstrel show on Bournemouth pier, read the book Sambo and the tiger at primary school and also Agatha Christie's Ten little N***** boys at secondary ( * did that for you Mal 😁 ) laughed at Love thy neighbour. the list goes on and on..... Racist now but quite normal back then. The tolerance levels seem to lessen with each generation, much the same as beating your wife and birching children, bear baiting and public executions, being born in a different era doesn't make one a racist just not so sensitive as today's generation
