Friend of mine is due out at Riberie on 9th May, the lockdown is in force until at least the 11th May, he received a mail from Riberie stating that if hes not there by the 11th May thats 3 days into his 7 day trip so giving him 4 days fishing, he will lose his deposit. I believe if the travel ban was lifted the earliest he would be able to travel would be the 12th. Hes a regular who has supported Riberie since David bought it.

I'm no lawyer, but surely Ribiere is not entitled to funds without fulfilling some alternative means for taking the money.
Either way, all other fisheries have either refunded the money or offered dates late in the year, with the deposits from cancelled trips, due to the lockdown.
I'd be interested to see your mates message on here.. Fisheries like this need to be exposed.

It is in my, and probably everyone's else view, completely working to withhold people money, or not offer to use that money for a future trip. It's disgusting!

I have been reading a few posts elsewhere and it seems that some people are having problems with insurance
One of the reasons being the border was not closed and other are saying that there are all sorts of terms that mean they are not covered

I'll put like this:
It's the right thing to do..
And for those who do not, where fishery owners keep funds, knowing the angler looses money, they will not be in business long..
word gets around, simple as that. Shame on them during a crisis.
& by the way; you can't get insurance to cover a scenario like this! It all comes under act of god!
Most fisheries have done exactly what should be done, return deposits, or use those deposits to book a trip later in the year, or the following year, not in 2023!!!!
Does that answer the question!!!!
It's called respect, honour, loyalty and compassion.

Firstly; This is not about fault!
If I had a business where I had to rely upon withholding clients money in the event of a business catastrophe, then I have failed my clients, in this case, anglers.
In most cases; it's totally understandable to keep the deposits, but, they should be used for future bookings.
The deposit Funds should not simply be used to quantify managing a business through a tough time, this is unacceptable, a false economy and bad practice.
In fact, if you wish to get legal, you should not spend, allocate or disperse deposits until you have fulfilled the agreed contract the funds are for.
IE: someone may wish to cancel, therefore, those funds should be readily available to refund back.
Most fisheries have excellent relations with their anglers, and in most cases, things like this can be arranged in a sensible, amicable manner, for both parties.
But for fisheries who have little, or no compassion & respect for anglers money, or loss, these fisheries ought to be exposed.
Why?
So that anglers in the future, CAN make an informed decision in the future, as to where they spend this hard earned money.
I'll end with this:
The above words do not associate to well managed, respectful and decent fisheries.
The words above relate to those at the opposite end of that spectrum!

So that is YOUR problem..... I bet you and many others have not even given a thought to taking insurance for trips booked , particularly if booked as part of a group.
You are not doing it right . .... and then crying that it is down to somebody else to pick up the pieces.
EVERY holiday you book , be it fishing , Spain with the wife , skiing ......offers you insurance or advises you take insurance out elsewhere to cover travel / no show ...whatever.
I bet you a pound to a piece of sh!t that all these people without the correct insurance , will just carry on regardless booking trips and thinking ...it won't happen again.
Man up it is whoever booked the trip that has failed.

That is the reply I was looking for!!!
There you go, I'm obviously talking to either a disgruntled fishery owner or a keyboard warrior who lives with his Mum.
As for manning up, per your request, believe me mate, you wouldn't say that to my face, or to a group of Carp anglers from Sheffield who just lost their hard earned money!!!!
If you had an ounce of intelligence, you'd be renamed at best as ‘fuktard'!
The fact that you have not read properly the messages before this one, with some scope and detail, tells me a lot about you. Per the last message I just posted;
Shall I break it down for you once more, I think so!
MOST fisheries are happy to either refund your deposits in full, or use those deposits to book a future trip at the same venue ASAP. This is called good business practices, displaying loyalty, compassion and respect to the very client that enables them to have a business year in year out.
If a venue states it will not use the deposit for a future booking, and that the deposit is lost because the angler was not able to attend, this is simply, robbing the angler of money, given the crisis!
By the way; just because terms and conditions are displayed before A booking Is made stating this, that and the other, does not mean in any way those terms are bound by law, being adheres to, or even legal under trading standards.
Also; in this world of Carp Angling, it is relations that assist the merry go round of anglers, lakes, tackle and bait! As for insurance, most people do not take out Insurance until The final balance is due, usually 8 weeks prior to the trip.
For the purpose of this demonstration, let's say you had to pay your balance March 1st, for a trip may 11th, where a deposit of 50% was paid 6 Months prior.
You are now not going to pay your balance, because there IS NO trip!! You are locked down!!
Therefore, and again, so you can understand this.
There would be no insurance in place!
So; if I booked a trip last year, arranged my insurance cover to start from the date of balance Settlement, then there is no cover. In this case, the fishery owner should be compassionate, and use those deposits for a future booking.
Is that simple enough for you ?
I won't answer your messages again, simply because I think your ****er!

Easier said than done mate. Your Insurers will expect the provider to offer a resolution. This is just one reason why I said to Croc boy that it's not black and white but he doesn't like to listen to anyone elses opinion!
