Been watching these with interest over the past few nights. There is no sign of it receding, and it would not surprise me if it spilled over here. It just needs one spark, one tweet, one snapchat, one death. The stuff going unreported is surreal. The Fedex Truck, store owners being beaten to within an inch of their life for protecting businesses, Police posing as rioters and smashing windows to incite violence....It's there in black and white, yet the media are quite happy just to stand around, praying they see a black kid run out of a shop with a handbag under their arm. This has all the makings of a long heated summer, which can no doubt be exacerbated by social media.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the top story is about a female MP breaking lockdown rules to get bent over a sofa by a married bloke

There will be plenty of chaps down the road to quash any looting if they try it. It happened in 2011 and hopefully it would happen again if the need arised.

Years and years of oppression and bigotry. Hugely disproportionate levels of employment and distribution of wealth. Dozens of unreported assaults, attacks and worse

I think it makes a mockery of the hard work put in by others. I understand the anger and frustration, but outside of peaceful protest or better yet political change (which takes generations) it's basically an excuse for ****s to be ****s
Will also be ironic if the mob stood shoulder to shoulder in Trafalgar Square holding up ‘I can't breathe' signs die of respiratory failure from Covid

As for change taking generations, it's 5 decades since his speech. Plus the decades before that ... how many generations do they bloody need?
While Trump can tell black Americans to go back where they came from there's little point in asking the White House for change....
You're right that there will be those who jump on it as an opportunity for something else but the root problem remains and it's not going away while white politicians exploit the nasty undercurrent for their own gains.

Agree completely mate, their system is broken... well, it was never intact to break.
But when your hard work is being undermined by morons it makes matters harder.
I feel for black Americans, they have been born into a real struggle. I also feel for the minority of police and politicians with good intentions who are tarred with the same brush as racists because of a job title

Look up My Brothers Keeper. Or Obamacare. Or the JOBS Act. Or what he did to protect ethnic minority homeowners. Or the overall impact on employment and working rights. I could go on but this should do you for a start....
He did a hell of a lot whilst within a society that still thinks it's ok to persecute a man because of his skin colour.
