Most of the 40's came from Heron, surprisingly 10 of the 50's were from Fox which indicates we've massively underestimated the current sizes of the Carp in there as we thought there were probably somewhere in the region of 15 in the lake and it would be a bit unlikely that they'd all get caught in the same 4 day spell?! This can only be good for the future as we reckon there are around 350-400 40lb+ carp in Fox and if the uppers all start to push on then god knows how many 50's the lake will hold come this time next year or by the spring of 2013?!
PS I have just had another one from peg 6 but fell in while netting it which is why I'm online now, drying out in the Clubhouse!!

Hi Rupert.......the Fox is certainly the one to watch for 50's......I've seen many commons during the spawning ritual in the top bay 2010 that were pushing and beyond 50lbs barrier......can't wait to get back out there.......say hello to Seb, Yvellene and the Team from me

Sounds like it could be worth packing the van and getting oneself off to Abbey....
Me and 2 others are considering a february trip out there.
We've fished Atilla twice now, mainly because we've had it to ourselves.
We've had some good fish out of there and seen some very big fish
, abit under rated in my opinion.
We fancy the last week of february though for 4 days on fox dependant on how busy it is...angling against 6 others with bait boats out constatly which i saw when i was there a few weeks ago isnt angling in my book.
FFS, it was a 50 yard chuck to where they were fishing.
Lovely complex, Rupert lets you get on with things....and its close to calais.
Will probably see you in Feb Rupert for the third time in less than 6 months LOL.

Hi Dale,
We're shut in Feb me ol' china!! The Winter season runs through until 31st Jan and then we have a month off and re-open for the 1st-15th March for any remaining Winter (price) bookings and the tail end of the VIP ticket!

im going abbey for the 1st time this may can anyone give me a few tips ie whats the weather normaly like that time of year ?. im taking about 20k of cell and some responce pellet is this too much or not enough ? .
ive got a bait boat but no echo sounder .... do i need one is the weed that bad?
and do i need a dingy to land the fish ?as ive heard the fish weed you up and a boat is needed.

I took same amount boilie was fine weed is bad your not aloud to use dinghy and it was baking hot in mid April just use a marker float although echo would be an advantage

Don't think you'll be allowed to use boats that early in the year, no need anyway. A pair of chesties is essential though imo. 20kg is more than enough boilies, hemp/red band/maize etc with a bit of something yellow on the hook I've never needed an echo sounder.
Love the place, shame is so expensive now

cheers , the use of the boat was ONLY for landing fish that were weeded up .

when you say that boats may not be aloud do you mean bait boats or rowing boats ?

When I went last year a mate took his own rowing boat to land fish as it said on the website that it was ok he went out to land a fish and got a right bollocking so I'm not sure what the rule is I'm there again in April you can use baitboat

Boats were fine to use to get weeded fish only when i was there in september and november.

Perhaps someone from abbey would like to clarify what the rules are on using boats are to free weeded fish and I was also recommended after being there for six days that they recommend using mainline braid by the baliff didn't say that on the website either perhaps it has been updated now I'm not sure

There seems to be a lot of stories about people fishing your water from opposite with their bait boats, and people setting up right next to you because there are no defined swims.
Is this true? And if so are the baliffs on hand to resolve things like this?
