I will sleep well Jon, no changes for me personally......but the left is trying it's hardest to gain back ground from the right!!
Everyone is given the same opportunity from school, you either make something of yourself from it or skip most classes and then blame the current system, lack of equal opportunity, racism, religious hatred etc etc etc.....complete bull****!
Decide what you want and go for it, or sit on your arse and moan.
Of now for an afternoon nap wondering what might of been if I hadn't skipped so many classes......

Absolutely nothing has changed over the last 300 years.........If you can be arsed search up the latest series of "A House Through Time" which follows a particular house and it's occupants from the earliest known records. In this latest one, (ironically in Bristol given recent events) it starts in 1720 and over the two episodes i have seen so far it has covered off........ racism, riots, protests, looting, corrupt politics, pandemic disease, prostitution, bigamy, police brutality, wife beating, substance abuse, gang fights, abject poverty, anarchy, piracy.....etc etc......
Any of that sound familiar.....?
Take down the statues of those that now bring shame but remember that if it wasn't for some, none of us would be here......Churchil has been vilified in recent reports but he defended the world against the biggest racist of them all who would have slaughtered millions....

I think this study carries some weight , especially why people can fear change and be susceptible and manipulated by right wing ideology and no , it's not having a dig at certain people and obviously there will be exceptions !

Just another factor in the equation.
Each “side” clings to the blame of certain factors as the only cause when the reality is when you look at all the factors none of them are the cause in isolation.
They're all propping each other up like a house of cards.
Each side conveniently ignoring half the evidence.
This media whipped emotional s**tstorm is doing nothing of use to anyone.
Until both sides start acknowledging and addressing the problems in their own camps nothing will ever change.
Looks like at least in the short term some change is coming, let's hope it does't lose momentum and that both sides will keep the emotion out of the conversation and all the facts in it.

Social media makes it massively worse because now people are pressured into taking a stance one way or the other, you need to visibly align yourself to a cause quickly because to say nothing and not jump straight on the bandwagon now is seen as supporting "the other side" anyway.
People are expressing allegiances based on media presented options - "If you're not THIS then you must be THAT" "You don't want to be known as THAT do you?" "pick a box!"
And once you pick one it's a brave person who's happy to recant and lose face so publicly.

Social media has got a LOT to answer for and I don't think we fully understand the effects and the magnitude as yet. Brainwashing material that will have a SERIOUS psychological impact longer term
I don't want to divert from the topic but kids looking at porn whilst underage, murders, beheadings, you name it. Not to mention ganging up and bullying, there are kids taking their lives, absolutely way out of control imho, disgraceful

I'm just glad the majority of inequality will die out with the older generations. If the ‘snowflakes' love a fair and equal world then give it 70yrs and it'll be them here not the people scared of a better world.
P.s. no one is trying to erase history. If you remove a statue the history of that person and what they were involved with doesn't just disappear in to thin air. It still exists. Just not as a statue. It's in books, tv, etc.
Maybe they could put it in the national curriculum so EVERY child learns about it. Slavery, the empire, the real WW2 story (including Russia) and all the other stuff. I'm sure teaching kids about the Boer war, Churchill's actions in India and how Britain wasn't first in to Germany would really go a long way in terms of society having a much more accurate knowledge of British history and world events.

This is the whole point you don't have to be in either camp, you may have views from both sides and that is why we live in a democracy and not a totalitarian state.
Everyone of those protesters is wearing an item of clothing that has come from a sweatshop somewhere in the world where conditions are bad and to be quiet honest slave labour. If they are not wearing something they are using something ie smartphones, computers etc ... and the likes built by workers abroad on their minimum wage which is probably horrendous, not our minimum wage! People are still trafficked across the world and you can read that as slave labour. People on both sides of the argument need to hold their hands up and admit this as well.
It's not black versus white it's every person against every person regardless of ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. I would place big money of every adult person in this country has made a derogatory comment about someone else whether it be colour, sexual orientation, size, age or even the colour hair or lack of. Their are no innocents in this and I include myself in this to be honest.
I can not control history but I can acknowledge it's faults and also it's pluses. Educate, acknowledge and explain is the way forward and things can change but it's not a quick fix. Rabid mobs cannot dictate the way society heads or what they think the direction we should be travelling.

Democracy is being undermined by party politics heavily influenced by big business.
Multiple options complicate things too much, 2 camps is far easier to control, to play one off against the other.
Social media makes it so much easier to funnel the populace down into one of two camps, by clever marketing of the "choices" presented, and it's a huge captive market, there for the taking.

Sorry about this but
Don't talk ******** the older generation , you have just stereotyped my parents and I. They grew up in the war years suffered depravation and lived through a period that we can't imagine or would want to endure. I am a stepfather to a dual heritage daughter, grandson and great grandson. Going by your stereotyping myself and my parents would have nothing to do with her. Have a guess who inherits their house when they die and it's not me or my wife. You have just shown how innocently you have made a statement and casually branded a few genarations as racist without even realising it , inequality is different for every person not a blanket coverall

Education is the way forward, once is out in the open it can be discussed, dissected and lessons learned.
Sorry for ranting tonight but this is close to my heart and having been abused by both sides for having a dual heritage daughter it get my blood boiling by people in public and media who have no idea and I'm including both sides in this 👍🏻
My missus will probably ban me again 😷

No need to apologise, anybody for me. I think you covered the point perfect. It's certainly NOT a blanket to tar everybody with it's all individual circumstances and experiences that's why it will be so difficult to tackle sadly
