Looking at trying to lighten the load slightly and getting away from the bulky Ruben’s,
What’s your recommendations ? Also why?

I had that exact thought and decided to buy the Saber scales after watching a few videos on Youtube, I'm glad I did. They have proved to be reliable and after 3 years are still on the original batteries - when I got them I checked them against some newly refurbished and calibrated Reubens and they was bang on with a variety of different weights. The only fly in the ointment is the auto shut off, that didn't give enough time from zeroing the sling to actually getting the fish weighed so I don't bother and weigh the sling after and deduct. The same scales are now being sold by Trakker and Avid.

Fox and Reuben digital scales are the usual recommendations but they don't do any more or anything better than the Saber/Trakker/Avid scales.

If you really want light try luggage scales off Ebay. I tested a £3.95 set against my digi RH and my dial RH, they were as accurate as either.

I have a set of the Wychwood Tbar digi scales. Can’t fault them for the price. I bought mine based on good reviews I’d read. Well worth a look. Currently £24.99 on Amazon

The new ish little daiwa digital at 9.99 are going to be hard to beat, very good I found.

I’ve had a set of the Saber’s for a few years and they’re bang on. I’m sure the Sonik ones are the same, but wasn’t aware of any others?
As Chris said, the auto shut off is a bit quick, so I just deduct 1lb14oz that my Korda Compac weigh sling weighs when wet.

Trakker have just done some very similar to them,probably all made in the same factory

Well actually they do, the fox doesn’t have auto shut off so once you zero your sling it doesn’t matter how long it takes to transfer the fish to the sling and weight it.

I brought a set of the NGT digital scales, they are clearly the same as the Sabers and others, also checked and found to be v accurate.
I don't use the tare function, so not sure if the early shut off is an issue.
Good scales imo.

A set of the Daiwa pocket scales and a Jag foldable weigh bar are super light. Plus they’re extremely compact.

Daiwa scales - 119g.
Jag weigh bar - 131g.

My Rueben Heaton dial scales are 823g on their own.

Had a pair of RH digitals, but went back pretty quickly to RH analogue dials.

They are a faff in use, try a pair and you'll see what I mean. The "hold" function (which can't be adjusted or turned off) is way too sensitive.

It used to go into hold mode, just trying to initially pick up the weight of the fish off the Matt.

Wouldn't recommend.

Me and a mate both got that same combo of scales and jag weigh bar 👍

Re my mention of pocket luggage scales earlier it's worth checking you're not paying more than you have to for rebranded generic scales on this front.

For example, below 3 images, my scales £3.99 Ebay (£2 odd on Temu), Berkley Scales £27 ish & Zebco £17 ish.







The Daiwa Pocket are the same as Zebco's Trophy, hence me thinking they're again a generic rebranded scale, worth a search to avoid fishing tax, if it bothers you, not that they're that expensive but 'every little helps'.





A friend and member on here also has the Korum Compact, I was very surprised by the size!

The fox do have auto shut off worst thing about them mine go off before I can lift the zerod sling with fish in sometimes a right pain

Yes digitals will lighten load but after trying digitals I went back to RH dials. Most of the time they are on hand, left outside on my weighing staff with the sling. No worries about unexpected battery failure, keeping them dry, taring facility problems, time outs, readings latching on too prematurely
The extra weight and bulk make it worth it in my opinion

Strange I assumed they didn’t, as I’ve never had mine shut off before I’ve transferred and weighed a fish.
