Low pop up rigs (17 posts / 3,653 views)

I've pretty much exclusively used two rigs for the past decade, a flipper style rig and a stiff hinge, both which I'm really happy with.

I recently dabbled with a multi rig (20lb tungsten loaded semi stiff and angling iron chod hook). A rig I've used on and off previously. Whilst the bites picked up using low laying pop ups, the hook holds weren't amazing on the fish I landed, and lost a few on the way too.

After a recommendation for a low laying pop rig, ideally I'd like to use it with braid not Fluoro, never touched a Ronnie or similar in my life before, so any hints and tips on set up/hook pattern etc appreciated.

Many thanks

Look at ian Russell's flick rig on u tube. Basically a reverse combi rig. You can tie it as low as you want. I've used it in the past for fishing in holes close to far bank, where you arent sure what you are going to land on.

Look on YouTube for Mark Pitchers Hinged Stiff Rig, it's the only pop up rig I use.

Stick with the multi rig mate, just get the loop as small as possible so the hook just passes over it.

I believe these super buoyant popups can play havoc with hook holds so try something like a 16mm popup with 12mm cork ball - still buoyant but in the old school kind of way 👍

Use the multi rig, but not a chod hook like usually recommend. I use them with an inturned eye hook (Nash fang twister) and the hookholds are always superb, and I can't remember the last time I lost a fish on one

Kryston Jackal has been pretty good for me this season with a bit of putty half way down. Very similar to the old jel e wyre if you were familiar with that

Yeah heard that.

Think they used to do a stiff coated braid in the old days too. Almost wouldn't bend with a 14mm boilie in the end 😂
Are you sure?
